Turkina Concept Sketch

Green Turkey time! - [Tweaked version updated]

I've got this one pretty much done, but I want to simmer it a bit for improvement. It's never been a good looking mech but I've liked it since Mech Commander was one of my first Battletech games I played extensively.

I think this is a mech more people will be willing to take bigger design changes on for the purpose of "cool".

Anything you would change?

A nice low walking pose and it's perfect

Make the torso a little more flat and a little less fat and it'll be perfect.

I like this design even though it strikes me as a clam with shoulder pads (sorry). having said that I believe that this is a good look for the Turkina and I'm not sure how much more tinkering would improve it.

Beast of a mech, you're doing right by it for sure. This mech, the Night Gyr, Stone Rhino (Behemoth), Black Lanner, and Fire Falcon are all mechs my units field as a must every time they hit the table!

This one is great. I especially like the cockpit design and the missile launchers.

I almost need a human figure to judge the scale.

Cool design. Given how wide it is, and how gently the bow is curved, I'm not convinced the windows further back on the side are providing the pilot any useful information. Like, from the pilot seat, you could maybe have room for a center and two side windows, but beyond that, the cockpit itself has to be a crazy large room, to have room for the extra windows?

Where do I put the stuffing?

I LOVE it!

I had to let this one simmer a little bit, but here's my thoughts: I found the cockpit glass to be a little strange having the center section larger than the other sections, I feel like the side sections should be a little taller than they are currently. The arms look great, but I'm not sure if the launchers should be angled that much. And I feel like it should be a little more "squat" with a very slightly upscaled center torso bulb. I know my opinion may be one of the less popular, but I honestly loved that original "🦃 turkey" look it had. It's well done, as always, but those would've been my tweaks! I hope this doesn't come across as abrasive.

What is tweaked?

Is it possible to see it with the Launchers level? I feel maybe the flat wide look wouid look more menacing

Even though it caused it to lose 'cool' points I liked the thought of a wider, flatter, torso to give it that KingCrab-lineage look. Akin to the Thunderbolt/Summoner, Hellbringer/Warhammer, MadDog/Archer, etc. Like others I think it might 'sit' too high, but things might shake out differently in 3D/mini form ...

It is a great work and the miniature will look awesome. However, I have two things that doesn't "click" on me. It looks to tall, the legs are a bit too tall. A walking stance may solve it. Also, the cockpit is a bit weird. The panels in the "trench", especially the ones far away from the center, don't look normal. It looks more like a window in a space ship than a cockpit. They may look better if they were less wide and raised, above the trench. I know that this is more a matter of preference and I hope the feedback helps you. Anyway, great job

I have never liked the artwork or the miniature of this mech, but this new artwork makes it look so much better. Well done! I think you hit this one out of the park.

Seeing how huge and different this big guy feels is fantastic. But speaking of enormous Clan assaults, is the Stone Rhino coming up any time soon?

Raymond White

The torso seems a bit too small, and the legs a bit too tall for me.

Terence Harris

I think this one's excellent. In my *ideal* world, the missile launchers would be slightly less... flared outward, but there's not really any proper way to deal with them given how big they're supposed to be. Regardless, it looks great; I'd totally buy it if it looked 100% like it does above.

Robert Schuster

I like it! The original was a gawdawful design, and I really like what you have done with it. Only thing I would experiment with (maybe not change) is the orientation of the weapon pods - for example, have the arm cannons mounted perpendicular to the arm struts (as opposed to parallel with the ground) or flip the missile pods 90 degrees so the outside pointed down (as opposed to up) - just to monkey with it a bit and see what has more cool factor. (Those two changes would likely make the design look more like a Wideboi as opposed to a WIDEBOI) - but that's just some ideas to "fiddle" with - love the work overall!

It's almost like I do this very thing for a living haha. For 7 years my Battletech focus has been on redesigns, so I've practiced a bit :)

Another one saved from immortal uglyness. Impressive how all mechs ive seen reworked by now just seem to hit the spot between recognising the old mech and looking modern and formidable.

Swen Decker

This is amazing, I can’t wait to see the Kingfisher

Tinman

It looks proper chunky, I can only support Andrew's statement!

Peter Holthaus

The rule of cool is strong in this , well done.

Like this one a lot. Retains the flavour of the original with the modernised aesthetic, andd manages to keep that 'wth is that thing!' feel.

Andrew Dickinson

Yeah I wasn't a fan of the old one either, the arm/shoulder/missile assembly just screams overly complicated. Combined with the big dish like torso the tiny legs and lil pin feet, it just looked wonky as all hell. This looks amazing :)

Steven Cross

Yep, lost of MC reference on the torso shape. User's version also look cool but I think it went too alien in looks for official purposes.

Anthony Scroggins

I think I'd like the torso to be slightly flatter, like a small amount. I also played the crap of Mechcommander back in the day, and I see some of the lines of the shape the one in that game had in this design. I also like user000000000001's design on Deviantart of the Turkina. I feel this one is somewhat clunky, IDK like it is a little kids toy version or something. Just my opinion.

Fancier one is the main, the other is both me being lazy, and a cutdown alternate. Legs are asymmetric inside and out yes.

Anthony Scroggins

Love it! The windshield is a pretty major change, but it makes the mech feel bigger so I like it. Are the missile racks going to be different and the legs not mirrored? I like either LRM, but I’d vote for the fancier one.

Carlos Sempere

A vast improvement and its no longer got lil pin hoof feet!

Steven Cross

I don't think you change it all that much. It looks like you kept everything right where it was in the original design. It's like you simply modernize it to be in line with the new design ascetic. I really like the new arm assemblies. The original shoulder missile pods with the tube arms hanging down was just kind of weird. Also my first Technical Readout was the original 3058 so it brings along quit a bit of nostalgia for me.

MechaParade

I have always wanted to like the Turkina. Now I can!
