I love this episode and I really loved your discussions, I enjoy how you guys can have these deep and full of insights conversations with each other (and us, at the same time!), so yeah, all of this filled me with so much joy I can barely express in words haha Also, I'm not sure if someone commented it already or if Carter figured it out by himself, but the quote you were looking for is probably "Power doesn't panic", from the goated Andor show. Cassian says it to Kino in the beginning of episode 10, right after Ulaf passes away, it's a really powerful scene!

In response to your question towards atheists, absolutely. I am a scientist through and through, and have never really been able to imagine a different career than that. My specialty is in evolutionary biology, not astronomy, but like (most, I imagine) a lot of curious or scientifically minded people, I have been deeply interested in space since childhood. I own a telescope, and looking up through it to see Saturn, or Mars, or different nebulas and galaxies, right there, not on a screen but with my own two eyes, it invokes a feeling of awe and wonder that is rarely matched in life. Outer space is a realm not meant for humanity, not in the sense of any god restricting it, but that we just really are not designed to survive there. Even merely going outside of the earth's atmosphere alive is dangerous and difficult. In a way, it makes me feel how I imagine the European explorers felt looking out at the Atlantic, imagining the new world beyond. Then, too, the journey was treacherous and hard. But beyond the journey lay sights no one from their society had ever seen. Imagining our species taking up that journey beyond earth, finally leaving our cradle, fills me with hope and wonder. I truly, genuinely hope that I will live to see man step foot on mars, not just as explorers, but as settlers. And it makes me sad to know that I most likely won't see much beyond that before I die. I've been watching this show for the first time alongside you guys, and I have to say, I am in love with it already. It perfectly captures that inspiration, that yearning for understanding, that we feel so strongly.

love love love this episode, badeni's backstory showing us his insatiable thirst for knowledge, his devotion to gods creation and trying to understand it as best he can, and seeing where that leads him... my goodness. that eye burning scene is so visceral and uncomfortable to watch, but it's also hard to look away from, like your eyes are glued to the screen. love that we also get more of oczy's doubt and reluctance, it really just makes him feel more realistic as a person, not just a character, because any normal person with a strong belief indoctrinated into them would be the same way. denial, hesitance, avoidance, all of it plays a role when you're in a situation like this, and i like that we can really see it shine with oczy's character through his dialogue. also, it might just be me, but i'm a sucker for shows that can pull off explaining things without making it feel stale, repetitive, or like you're being babied. they introduced a concept and explained it in minimal words, and gave us multiple visual examples to go along with it. i love it when shows are able to teach with visual cues, not just auditory/explaining, and this episode does just that with the earth-mars scene. also such a great character moment for oczy, being able to turn his eyes to the stars again, and appreciating it for all that it is.
