IDK I just can't warm up with Hinata. Kishimoto basically used Nejis death as a plot device to develop Naruhinas relationship, it just leaves me salty. I know Kishimoto can't write women well, but I really really can't stand how she's just swooning over Naruto the whole show, while he doesn't look twice at her, besides the Pain arc and now. Love the discussion as always! In regards to Neji, on my first watch, I thought it was almost pointless. Bringing him back just to ☠ like Carter brought up Now, like Cannon said, I understand his character is the sacrifice that makes the most sense(assuming a sacrifice was necessary to turn Obito up as well) It mirrors the Hyuga history when he saves Hinata(and it makes sense she jumped in front of Naruto), but also in turn he saves Naruto, who's not only carrying the war, but also saved Neji from himself. No one else from the leaf would really make sense here imo except for A)Hinata B)Sakura(and we know that wasn't happening) or C) Iruka (and iirc he's miles away from here) mayyybe a Sai, or Shikamaru but they JUST killed his dad

It wasn't necessarily a bad death scene just EXTREMELY uncalled for. He barely got any screen time in Shippuden and got put on the back burner to straightly killing him off, like the authors used him as a cheap plot device. There's so many fall through in all entirety of Naruto. I guess it would be expected since Kishimoto was rushed for the second half.😒🥲

I think Neji's death only feels out of place and random cause everyone expects him to do what he says and change the Hyuga way but in reality this moment is him realizing why his dad made the sacrifice in the first place and that it doesn't make him or his part of the clan any less than the main branch because at the end of the battle it's not filial duty that's making you sacrifice your life it's your bond and love for that person. Neji finally understood his dad and gave his life to protect his family both fulfilling his "duty" but also protecting what's most important to him. sorry if this doesn't make sense to whoever is reading this it makes sense to me. Also plot wise they've enforced that you lose people in war and it changed the older generations however for it to not happen to any of the kids we met in base Naruto would kind of feel weird. We can't go into war expecting none of our favs to die, the risk has to be there. I'm still so sad about Shikaku and Inoichi, goat dads.

And perfectly parallels Naruto’s ideals. Pain is also a great villain I think he’s a little more grounded which is the appeal there

Actually to answer your question (and something many here forgot), Neji was actually supposed to die in the OG Naruto When they go retrieve Sasuke and he fights Orochimaru's squad, the spider guy. In the Manga he had a huge ass hole in his chest and he was supposed to die right there. But because at that time it was just a manga in the weekly shōnen Jump, the readers/fans wanted him back. And as a good mangaka that Kishimoto is, he brought him back for a very long time. He also had a lot of filler episodes for us fans. So that's why it was Neji.

If you want to learn what happened to Yamato, without watching the filler, he was in a water tank together with like 70 other little kids. Orochimaru was trying to add Hashirama's DNA into him, but as 3rd hokage was saying, the chance of some1 surviving was like 1 in a million. They all died 1 by 1 and he was the only one to survive. The filler shows Kakashi and Yamato going into Orochimaru's hideout where he experimented on the kids. Yamato and Kakashi start fighting (Yamato was in the foundation - Danzo's and Kakashi in ANBU - Hiruzen's). Kakashi beats the shit out of Yamato, he's on top of him ready to raikiri his ass, but decides to tie him up and bring him back to town. Then a big ass snake that looks like orochimaru's last form comes out, they both fight it, they defeat it. Then they make out (jk lmao) Yamato fakes his mission (taking Kakashi's eye, ordered by Danzo). Later Danzo realizes that Yamato went against the orders, Kakashi and Yamato are about to fight Danzo and his whole foundation in that shady place, but all the grown up ANBU and Hiruzen show up to save them. Thats as much as i remember. Sorry for my crappy english.

Nagato was melancholic since childhood, shaped by tragedy. Obito, on the other hand, was like Naruto — impulsive, full of energy, completely innocent. Someone who’s genuinely pure and good can more easily swing to the opposite extreme. Only someone who’s loved that intensely can also hate with the same intensity. He sacrificed himself in a great way that ties in with his character, Narutos, Obitos, and Kakashis with a fantastic scene coming afterwards so it was really well done.
