Frieren is a great show man. The characters feel a little cliche to me some times but I appreciate the vibes. The animation is probably my favorite part. The landscaping is so beautifully done, especially when jumping 50 years through Frieren's shoes.

There are definitely hype action moments with amazing animation, but the slice of life and character building scenes are what perfect the show and make it such a masterpiece. Like you guys said, there’s definitely a lot more to Frieren than simply being “uncaring” about her friends’ deaths. To Carter’s point, it’s why she kept emphasizing the “mere 10 years” thing, and her realization at Himmel’s funeral seems like a huge turning point. It’s not that she never cared, but that her perspective as an immortal made it hard to understand the value of their limited time. That moment shows her finally start to grasp what life means when it’s fleeting, and for the first time she begins to have regrets. I think her character is such a cool way of putting into perspective the value of mortality, and how it can take loss for someone like her to realize what she’s been missing.

I thought I'd share just to give some small context to the show given the episode being somewhat different from what you all had expected. The title, not likely referring to Frieren's actual funeral, can be understood as the funerals occuring in Frieren's lifetime. (Not to imply that we will see many deaths during this story, but maybe, we'll see.) Regarding the English title, "Beyond Journey's End" of course alludes to what comes after their journey to kill the Demon King, which while not the same, can carry similar themes rather nicely. As well, if you want to think of the 'funeral' from the Japanese title to be specifically Himmel's funeral, then they are also both directly referencing events of this first episode. (Although still separated by 50 years, lol.) And you could also go the other way, taking "Beyond Journey's End" to refer more to death in general. Edit: Soft Spoiler in Replies

Yeah Jack is right I think it's a pretty common opinion that the show starts a bit slow but just to add some context for the Geks the first four episodes of Frieren were released at the same time. Some reactors watched them all at once some don't but if the show feels a bit slow at the start that could be one reason why. Personally I don't mind it being slower at the start especially with fantasy media like Frieren I love the early worldbuilding and getting to know the characters
