.One. .Piece. Live Action 1x8

SEASON FINALE

Comments

The coollapse of Arlong Park ends the fight in the manga and anime as well.

rac coun

It's a good adaptation, but the reason why it's so glazed is cuz if you compare it to the other live actions, it's the best thing ever made. You guys should watch any other live action just to compare, maybe the Death Note one, cuz that's infamous for how horrible it was, so horrible that I enjoyed hate watching it.

wadad sk

I really love that this show decided to use as much practical effects as possible rather than using mainly cgi.

parALICEis

I think for season 1 they had obvious restrains just to get out their first work and that let to certain cuts and also having some kind of B-plot that stretches across the series. I hope that going forward they can have more freedom with adapting the full story and not leaving stuff out but also adding new stuff that's appropriate for the live action.

Szonin

i just watch opla this year too, expected the worst but ended up liking the actors and nami actress and this show bring more fans to op fandom so its a good thing, im excited for the next season

Imaginatxxn

hahah mee too, i love taz's account the most

Imaginatxxn

Iñaki is so natural luffy when he isnt acting luffy, i dont know if I made sense 😅 out of all the actors/actresses, I didnt know I would like Taz this much. Now, im a follower of his in instagram, he is so fun. His posts in IG is the definition of go out and enjoy your life.

corLeonis

Buggy has aura lol

Ana

Fr they did Benn Beckman dirty

Jude

I am ok with Luffy being a little weaker, otherwise they would need to Goku him like in the anime. Otherwise he would be stuck between a building for a couple episodes.

Cory Noyes

Solid first season hope they do improve on how the characters act and choice of dialogue.

humbleandkindness

I sincerely hope that cadet becomes a new member of the Gek slang repertoire

humbleandkindness

are you guys going to react to the season 2 trailer

Fr0z3nWaffle

You guys pretty much nailed my thoughts as well in the outro. The Garp scenes overstayed their welcome for me as well, but I understand why they chose to include them. The practical effects and most of the CGI was really impressive. I think a lot of the glazing comes from the fact that One Piece is probably the hardest anime to adapt to live action and the very same studio that produced this already failed with their Cowboy Bebop adaptation. Watching all of the teasers they released before S1 aired was so much fun, because every time they released something, everyone was surprised by how good it looked. They nailed so much of what makes One Piece special, but I agree that the music is sorely missed. For what it's worth, the scores I enjoy from the live action are "I'm Gonna Be King of the Pirates/We Are!", "Wealth Fame Power", and "My Sails Are Set". You guys should react to the S2 teaser and Chopper reveal if you haven't already!

Rhettoric

It’s kind of funny because I feel like Iñaki in real life feels more like Luffy than when he acts like Luffy. Like if you guys watch him in interviews or how he interacts with the rest of the cast, he’s so luffy coded. I think the problem is when he tries to act like luffy, that he loses that spark.

Destiny Samuel

W fr🤣

Cannon Andrus

Thanks! The waiting between seasons is diabolical

jrnoodles

Luffy and Zoro are not up to the standard for me. Also Garp and Mihawk, everything else is fine. Maybe its because how much I love them in the anime so the standard could be a bit higher but I love sanji in the anime and the LA Sanji was up to my standard. Overall 7.5 show, I like it but I don't love it like I LOVVVVVE One Piece.

Pht0m(Alex)

I love Iñaki, but not gonna lie, he needs that aura to pull off Luffy.

julia

Watching this on my General Conference break 😂

SlytherinBanks

wait i meant that the other way around

DC

I understand luffys take about cannon

DC

Cannon is being way too hard on Luffy, he did win fights 😂. I am completely opposite, I thought it was stupid when he didn't have any difficulties in the anime. There's gotta be some progression. Also, that was a completely accurate portrayal of Garp. Even where you're at in the anime Garp could no diff Luffy. No. Difficulties. At all. I think you're picking up on it but they are definitely moving story elements forward in the LA, and I don't mean Garp. I mean like Zoro and Sanji beefing. Zoro getting lost. Stuff like that. They know they aren't getting 1,000 episodes and there's a lot of story to cover. I like it anyways.

Stairguy

As someone who could not get into the anime I absolutely loved the live action and it got me interested way more than one piece in general. I don’t know everything that has happened but I have been keeping up with the more recent things in one piece nowadays is epic

Vernus

I will always have my gripes with live action but I'll keep it positive. I'm glad this show made more people watch the anime, the sets are amazing, they encapsulated the world building and i love the look of every character. I do hope they drop the whole 'good pirate' stuff because in both anime and manga luffy has never cared about that. But I'm excited for season 2, i hope you guys check out the Tudum trailer thing which shows Chopper he's so cute :)

Daniella

Ain’t no way that’s Benn Beckman…

LeBron Glazer (Bronsexual)

ANOTHER OPLA MUSIC FACT :D at 35:07, they play a song called Goodbye, which has been played twice before in the show, both thimes in Episode 1 - when Koby and Luffy talk about Koby's dream, and when they, well, say goodbye lol,, it's got such a bittersweet, but positive, sound to it, and I feel like it fits their relationship of realizing from the beginning that they would always be on opposite sides of the pirate/Marine war, but that they would still be friends to the very end.

humbleandkindness

34:08 BAHAHAHAHAHA

humbleandkindness

Season 2 trailer reaction plz!!

beckett9898

succession yes please

Boban

Don't know where we're supposed to do this stuff. But I recommend Penguin, Succession or Adolescence (very short) for next LA show.

handsome squidward

I actually really like Inaki as Luffy. It's such an impossible task to embody Luffy 1 to 1 in live action, but I feel like he's putting up a dang good effort. Especially after seeing him in interviews and realising his energy is exactly the same in real life hahaha. I can understand why Oda became so drawn to him and built a close relationship with him easily. Inaki isn't PERFECT as Luffy by any means but he's goofy and loveable and that's a dang good starting point for me at least. Hopefully we get to see him grow into it more in future seasons. also lets not pretend that Luffy loses every fight in the live action. he beat Buggy, Kuro, and eventually Arlong. Luffy takes Ls in the anime all the time before getting a rematch and winning. Maybe they aren't making him seem too OP for the sake of grounding him as an underdog a bit more, but he's still shown some amazing feats of strength so far in the LA.

Alex

Can we mayyyyybe get a reaction to the Chopper reveal and main trailer for season 2? I'm dying to see the guy's reactions to some of the stuff XD

Alex

I wouldn't say it's completely different, i aslo feel we ought to see more of Garp in general

1804

As a person who watched this show before watching the anime, I will always have a soft spot for it. When I first watched the live action I loved all of it, but since watching the anime I noticed a few changes that I didn't really like for example: Luffy being way too in touch with other people's story, in the anime he's also emotionally intelligent but doesn't require listening to other people's life story to do that. He is also a lot more serious in the live action, in the anime he's very aloof but that makes the moments he has to lock in and be serious all the more riveting. Also the implementation of Garp didn't really make sense when I watched the anime. I understand that it was done to give a bit more explanation about the world's lore, but it felt a little unnatural to have Garp chase Luffy the whole season, to then just go: "Well I guess I'll just let you go." But in the end, the few gripes I had now rewatching the live action, are melted away by how charming it is. You can tell this show was made by fans, all the details in the background and little easter eggs weren't necessary, but they did it anyway because they love the show. And you can truly feel it.

wanira 11

Buggy coming back in this episode just to get his body back and flip Zoro and Sanji off made me laugh out loud

wanira 11

As a blind One Piece watcher, I really enjoyed this show! Ngl on my first watch, I just liked it. I thought it was really fun, but also goofy and a little cringeworthy at times. Liked it, but kinda brushed it off. It's probably because I don't watch anime. But after a few rewatches from watching reactors, I LOVE ITT. Loved the baratie arc (Sanji my favv) and the finale was epic. It's funny when ya'll see differences, and I'm just so unaware of it 😅 I'm so blind compared to the ATLA Netflix Live Action when I know EVERY single thing about the original lol. The worldbuilding & the crew are my favorite parts of the show. I hope to see more of their dynamic in the 2nd season. I'm so pumped for it 🍊 Overall, I give this show a 4/5.

jasminethegreat

I think they toned down a lot of the characters and made them more "realistic" because it could look a little weird in the LA. Also it could take some time for the actors also to be able to be in the character, after all I am sure it'snot easy to be able to recreate the personality of some characters. Iñaki is a good actor and I think he could grow more in his role as Luffy, I saw a lot of their interviews and I think he could be able to be more in the character. I also saw the trailer for the 2nd season and already it looks better that the 1st one. Afterall in this season they changed a lot of things because they didn't know if this season could go well or not and I am pretty sure some information (like Garp begin Luffy's grandfather) was beacuse they thought it could make people more interested in the serie. We also need to understand that this LA is not following the anime but the manga and that the serie is another thing that stand in his own. I read the manga and of couse I would always prefer that over the LA but I think the made a good job, this LA could have gone much worse. Again I think the 2nd season could be better than this one. I hope you can react to both the trailer and the introduction of Chopper

maria

I'm in the same boat The LA is "cringe" because you can't really do One Piece in live action, it was always gonna come off weird. Truly, the LA has no right being as good as it is, and I think it did wonders in not only translating the source material, but also in introducing new people to the world - and I've seen a lot of people start watching the anime only thanks to the LA

Hegataro

I agree. Moreover, the whole meaning behind Nojiko’s tattoos gets completely lost. They were done to support Nami and make her feel less alone in her struggle. Also Genzo’s role as a father figure has been greatly downplayed. Nami’s tattoo is dedicated to both Bellemere and him.

Francesca

although I will say the trailer for the next season does look promising, more than the first thats for sure

forthwanderer

bro if this got people interested in watching one piece thats all I can really ask for, but as a massive one piece fan the live action was soooo mid piece. the actual anime is at least 3x better than this imo

forthwanderer

We got one peice not not “one piece” I need that next upload man

YoItsNiko

I'm just glad this made more people want to watch the anime or read the manga.

Enma

I try not to 'yuck' other people's 'yum', but I always thought the live action was just barely passable. They did amazing job with the atmosphere and set design, but the characters suffer too much from being real imo. My knowledge of the anime definitely affects my opinion, because people who havent seen it seem to be much more positive. If you would allow me to be brutally honest, I find LA Luffy cringe. The biggest thing for me is his personality. Anime Luffy was an intriguing mix of intimidating, blunt, happy-go-lucky, dumb, intelligent. When he got serious it made me pay attention, (and tbh sold me on the entire show). LA Luffy being serious reminds be of a toddler trying to scrunch up their face to show you they're mad. The childish aspects of Luffy are captured well by Inaki, but the more serious side just doesn't land at all for me. I could do another paragraph for deadpan Zoro, but I'll leave it there.

Ante

All in all you can see the passion that went into this project and some of the main cast are good. Plus it brought so many new people to watch the anime. However it’s definitely NOT the best iteration to watch. So much rushing and also quilt marvel humour. It’s just a nice side project.

Cosmic Sensei

Garp was definitely the most different in the Live Action, his whole personality is completely different.

Ben.

Him being this involved this early was not really a good idea

NINJA SWORD

My most problematic thing about this show is they made Garp weird

NINJA SWORD

RE: Music - IIRC they can't use it because Toei owns it and wouldn't allow more than a few tunes (which they worked for We Are to be used the few times it was, and Binks' Sake). The sound track was really good though - if you listen that one song that played during Nami's scene at the grave in this episode, is woven through the whole of the narrative of the show. You'll hear snatches of it in the background, remixed and worked into other themes. It's been worked in like Aerith's theme.

Liberty

The live action is a good adaptation probably one of the best anime live actions out there. Still, I didn’t like it as much as some other people did. There are a lot of things that make me feel this way, and the main one would probably be the pacing, which I can’t really blame the live action for, given the time constraints and all. But when you’ve watched the anime and read the manga first, it’s hard not to compare. I don’t think there are any scenes I would say I prefer in the live action over the anime. I think they should have given more time to building the Straw Hats’ storyline rather than giving Garp, in my opinion, an unnecessary amount of screen time. A lot of scenes didn’t hit nearly as hard as in the anime some of the acting and casting felt a bit ehh too, in my opinion. Also, the Luffy fights weren’t it for me. They definitely made Luffy look a lot weaker than he was in the anime. Sanji being immediately devoted to the crew, and Nami’s whole moment where she stabs herself in the arm, could have been directed much better in my opinion. Like, she just stops running and stabs herself it felt so out of place for me, when they could’ve shown her seeing the burning village first and then breaking down. A lot of scenes lacked tension and buildup, in my opinion. That said, adding content about Zoro and Mr. 7 and other references through hindsight was definitely cool. I’d say I prefer the anime over the live action in almost every way, but out of all the live actions I’ve seen, this was still a pleasant experience.

InitialD

As someone who (in order) read the manga, watched the anime, watched reactors to the anime and watched this when it dropped, I love ALL iterations of One Piece. They each have their own special charm and each have things they do better (and worse) than the others. I'm going to be day 1 for Season 2 of OPLA and day 1 for the WIT remake. More One Piece is definitely not a bad thing, and this show did well creating an opening for those who may not have originally considered watching or reading One Piece to enter by - and did it well. There's a lot of reactors who came into the fandom via OPLA and even more non-reactors who have become a fan of the series because of it. It spread One Piece to the world even more than it had already been, and allowed for it to become a bigger phenomenon than it already was. To the haters - do you really think that OP would be as huge as it is now, as widespread with as many deals and collaborations as it has in the past few years wthout this adaptation? Nah, fam. It needed this and Oda fought for it to exist - he's been in talks since 2016 and one of his dreams is to win an emmy, which he can't do with an anime, sadly. It's also one of the best Live Action shows to come out (especially outside of Japan) and it's really well done. To those thinking it's cringy or lame... have you seen the source material at all? The only reason it seems that way is because it's 'real life' as opposed to animated. It was always going to be a bit weird, but it still did a great job transforming the world and characters of One Piece into a live setting. They did great and they will continue to do great. If you don't like it, don't watch, but don't hate on it because you don't understand how important it is to exist, especially to Oda, the actors, the crew and the fandom as a whole.

Liberty

Its so funny how Jack defends the live action when its all of their first time watching it 😂

InitialD

Eat my leftovers cadet

DC

I'm not gonna say anything bad about the live action because it could've been a lot worse, but boy am I glad this is over lol

N P

mckay has to be vivi i think it would work

cozo

its not taking time away from the anime?

cozo

I'm here for One Piece and this is not it. Most over hyped show taking up time away from OP.

AV

Okay even if you don’t compare it to the manga or anime, it’s a cringey show. (Calm down it’s MY opinion. Last time I had all these people saying “I don’t like it because I’m comparing it to the anime” or that I’m “projecting”) I would NEVER watch anything like this lol. It’s not my type. It’s too Disney like. Campy. Humor feels like snarky marvel humor? I just don’t like it. It’s not about comparing it, I genuinely don’t like the show style and humor. It’s so cringe. BUT IF I compare it to the manga/anime…. there’s no chance. Just my take. I don’t like Disney-esque shows no matter where they’re from.

xSaorix

It's cool to see how far the geks have come with their one piece journey. The live action was fun and I'm looking forward to S2's reaction

1804

37:27 the magazine foreshadowing the revolutionary army is crazy detail

cozo

Its interesting that I noticed most reactors who never watched anime enjoy the show more than those who watched the anime. I think that there are multiple reasons like anime watchers know what's to come so natually makes the show less interesting, the presentation of some scenes of anime/manga is more powerful (like Zoro shouting I'll never lose, Luffy's ofc I will, Luffy beat Arlong, the end scene) so kinda feel cringe when the cast doing that. And also that this kind of story and the theme of dream, friendship, willpower and the pureness is rare in live actions. We anime watchers are used to these things but non anime watchers found it fresh and inspiring. I saw not only one live action channel got emotional at the last scene. Its also interesting that non anime watchers have different preferences on the casting and character. After all its about expectations and we anime watchers def have some bias lol. For me I think its good in general and I appreciate all their efforts to make this happen. And since it attracted more people to OP anime/manga, I think it can be considered as a successful adaption.

Murasaki

It gets a lot of things right, I don't want to be a hater. I like a lot of things about the LA. But I think Arlong Park was ruined by Nojiko and the rest of the village having no idea what Nami was doing. Like that's such an important theme in the original - finding a way to support each other when you can't just rescue people you love from a horrible situation: the village can't just rescue Nami so they try to make sure she doesn't feel guilty if she ever abandons her plan to buy back the village, and Nami knows she can't easily rescue the village so undertakes the plan to buy them. It goes from a story about community to a story about Nami struggling for years on her own

Sasha Ruple

Preferred LA Syrup village over the anime, Buggy, and maybe some parts of Baratie. Garp was way too involved. Otherwise I felt the changes to Luffy, Nami and her backstory just missed the mark and changed the writing way too much. I especially didn't like the changes to Luffy's display of emotional intelligence, it felt really forced at times and they made him learn about Nami's backstory, when he didn't want to know it in the anime. The changes to Nojiko, Gen-san and the village for Nami's backstory were questionable...

ahmad

Overall I really liked the season, def went for a more grounded but campy feel which I think is probably the way to go with how ridiculous OP is a lot of the time lol. It also gives them some liberty as it’s clear this is NOT meant to be 1:1 adaptation of the source material. Personally I found Zoro was BY A WIDE MARGIN the weakest of the casting. While I agree Inaki didn’t quite hit the “Luffy” vibe I certainly don’t think that was due to lackluster acting/casting, but due to the fundamental writing changes in his character. Inaki himself I think is a great casting choice for Luffy, the writers just need to find their groove. Super excited for S2 though and getting closer to Alabasta where things really pick up.

Vincent S Deluca

I liked it, its of course not as good as the anime but its not bad at all. Its definitely the best live action adaptation of anime/manga that i have seen. Very excited about season 2 with smoker and dragon and ofc chopper! and if i understand it correctly season 3 will be released right after season 2 which makes me think that season 2 will end of at drum island and that season 3 will be fully Alabasta! i like that you guys criticise Luffy haha, its just like when you started the anime, if i remember you guys had the same problems with him at the start there aswell, like being silly and yelling :D

Anton Sakshaug (Jancked)

I think most existing OP fans that watch OPLA are post timeskip and some of the characterizations make more sense.

Kaiju Kes

Y’all need to react to the season 2 trailer and the chopper reveal nowwwww

Ciara P

Stupid keel

McKay Carter

I think that this show is a great intro to One Piece for people who don't give anime a chance. For people who have seen it, you have to accept it won't be a 1:1 and take it as it is. I think they did a great job condensing the first few arcs and making it work well with the characters. Season 2 should be good, and we all know it only gets better.

Connor D

2 OPLA eps on Friday? W

John D. Acebes

I can't bear to watch the live action (partly because the music but mostly because it's live action and ruins the charm) so I'm glad to see people talking about one of the lost important parts of the one piece anime which is the music. The phenomenal and palys a major part in the strawhats story telling as many of them have multiple themes (and I mean actual themes where's they're labeled in the title) it's partly why I hate one place as it cuts up musical moments to remove filler. Video based media needs sounds and we should appreciate it

Benjamin Knock

The keel comment took me out lmaooo

Ciara P

jack I feel u with the music part if u know, u know but anyways. I'm glad for Oda he got what he wanted the live action was a success I have a couple of friends who started op because of it so yeah, can't wait for season 2. Also I was also iffy on luffy actor at first but ngl his passion and energy won me over I love this cast. Wonder if they know who's playing crocodile.

EmlovesOP⚡️

Carters “Cadeh” is the funniest thing to me in awhile🤣

Micah Seer

Tbh I don’t think it’s so much of a luffy losing too much issue, but more of a luffy not seeming strong issue, his gum gum punches don’t seem to have weight to them, so when he punches things it looks like it barely does anything at all. I think it would be fine if luffy was losing round one and then winning round two like he usually does in the anime/manga anyways, if at the very least when he wins in round two, he actually looks like he dominates his opponent in the end. When he beat Arlong in the anime, it seriously looked like luffy was simply better and stronger than arlong in the end, he was too much for him. But when he beats him here in the live action, it looks like he only wins because he thought of a clever way to get around the fact that arlong was overwhelmingly stronger than him.

Picasso

What are the next shows they’re reacting to? Any mention of Castlevania?

LeFlaneur

Completely agree with Luffy losing too much in this version. In the original, even East Blue Luffy is a powerhouse, plowing through every obstacle in his way and surprising all the people he comes across. That's what makes his the trust that Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji have in him so believable. Because he proves along the way that he can be depended on. That he's not all-talk. I still love the Live Action, but I hope they make him more capable in Season 2.

LeeJay

Thanks Geks 🔥🔥

Yusuf Riyandi

Do you guys plan on reacting to season 2 trailer?

Ranking My Studio Gek OPLA Fancasts: 1. Jack = Rayleigh 2. McKay = Pell 3. Cannon = Rob Lucci 4. Carter = X Drake HM: Brig = 🎩🦯 or Doflamingo

Sanji the Feet (Women Respecter)

[My personal pros]: I loved how they portrayed the backstories, how identical the characters look and sets were to the manga/anime, loved that it still made me emotional, loved the more serious tone to the show in general, loved the serious tone to Nami that shows how she had to learn to be tough after witnessing her mother's death in front of her and to be a thief for her deal with Arlong(her bubbly personality was little annoying in the anime to me tbh), loved how Luffy was less strong instead of being really powerful from the jump start(makes me feel like he was a captain with flaws that needed to grow which I love), and loved the pacing of the show. [My personal cons]: I disliked how prominent the Garp/Koby storyline was, wished there were more prominent songs to enjoy, wished the fight scenes were better for Luffy (fight scenes in one piece was one of my favorite parts of the anime/manga), wish Zoro was less stand-offish in general, wish Sanji and Nami interacted more, wished Mihawk interacted a little more with Luffy for me to understand why Mihawk let Luffy go instead of capturing him(I think simply sharing a few words can't really define if Luffy deserved to be compared to Gold Roger in Mihawk's eyes). Nonetheless, when season 2 comes out, I'll still watch it and watch you guys react to it! <3

Cece

I don't remember the timestamp, but someone asked where they film. They film most (if not all) of the show in South Africa. Cape town.

jack is garp and the rest are cadets

Is it true that Hatching was too expensive for live action?

Totally agree, after watching the live action, I was very shocked when I noticed that in his interviews. I understand why oda said he was real life luffy.

Yeah I thought Inaki’s acting was a little off putting but oddly in all his interviews his actually personality is exactly like Luffy. I bet if he just acted like himself, it would have came across more natural.
