And I also love the ending/theme song of ponyo 😆

Its a fun little watch. The Totoro theme song is definitely iconic (will never forgot during a Japanese TV show when a little boy that was crying sung the Totoro song to cheer himself up 😭) but Ponyo is up there along with it. Whoever said Nausicaa is mid has no media literacy, legit. That is nowhere near mid AT ALL..

Growing up watching over my little siblings and letting them watch this, I'd make them "ponyo ramen" every time. Kids are so transfixed by this because the kids really act like kids and I think they really see themselves in it. My baby siblings would physically mimic Sosuke and Ponyo while watching (they were like 3yrs old). So for all of that, this movie is special to me. Also, WATCH SINNERS PLEASEE. 😁

Hayao Miyazaki makes it a point to highlight the beauty of the natural world. As for more ghibli film recs, castle in the sky is really special and kiki's delivery service is a great coming of age story.

2025-09-12 08:59:23 +0000 UTCok final notes- - nausicaa being mid is a wild take - "ai could never man" green flag 😌 - lisa is how they chose to romanize it but her name is technically the japanese 'risa' I believe (there's technically no true l/r sound in japanese, so either way is an option though it'd typically be translated as an 'r' in many cases) and i'd love castle in the sky as the next anime movie (tied for my first place ghibli pick with princess mononoke) 🙏🏻 but also would love to see nausicaa sometime, and agree with the wolf children + weathering with you recommendations ive seen others mention + if ur looking for more ghibli movies to show ur future kids, kiki's delivery service and whisper of the heart definitely come to mind! more classics that i loved growing up :]

As someone who loved the film and watched it many times, and finally learned about the visual novels years later(technically the manga but in a larger format), and written multiple papers and created visual projects in art school because of it...... it's worth watching despite what others may say. You won't be disappointed I promise, it is the first film collaboration between Miyazaki and the legend Joe Hisaishi before Ghibli was founded (a raw but beautiful piece of creativity).

Yes it’s more simplistic but it’s *real*. It’s magical and whimsical. And it’s so sad to see the art style from Miyazaki be turned into countless apps made by computers. Along with all the other art stolen from anyone else. Art is a human creation. It also is so bad for the environment. Is uses soooo much water to power the computers just for someone to ask GBT or some other AI a quick question, and people turn to AI for serious answers, and it’s not even always accurate. I’m so against AI. It makes me sad when I hear someone say “ oh let me ask chatGBT” like….. no fact checking? It might have its place in some spaces, but in the masses, it’s just a step closer to a dystopian future. Such a weird time for us to live in. Sorry that was kind of a rant lol. But anyways. lol, love the upload :3 so happy to see this! I’m actually so happy to see another Ghibli upload!

I think it's one of Hayao Miyazaki's best works in my opinion. But "Howl's Moving Castle" is also amazing. I'm always torn between the two. They are both beautiful in their own right. That said, all of the Studio Ghibli films are amazing and true masterpieces.

In Japan, when giving nicknames to cute kids or animals, we often add “chan.” For example, Setsuko in Grave of the Fireflies was affectionately called “Secchan,” and in the same way, Sosuke is called “So-chan” and adored by everyone 🫶. On the other hand, “san” is used for older people, acquaintances, or in more formal situations. Just like in Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies, Ghibli has such a gift for capturing the little gestures and expressions of children 💕💕. Watching it makes me feel thrilled, as if I were a child again 💕💕. I can’t wait for you to also watch two of my favorites: Kiki’s Delivery Service and The Secret World of Arrietty.
