That’s why Moria and his people never kill any of their shadowless victims and let them leave on their boats if they’d like to, otherwise Moria loses the shadow he gains.

Luffy alone is probably enough to beat him, that’s why Zoro said they have already won. The only way Moria can win now is to have his threats burn in the sunlight, so he has employed shadow Asgard to buy the time for that to happen.

That feet needs a lot of will power to utilize the shadows power. That is why they ask Luffy after hundred shadows, whether he is still there and Luffy says I am still me or something like that. That means he uses the power shadows provide for his benefit and not lost to their power. In case of Moria, to prove that he is a lot more powerful than Luffy he consumes all the shadows in TB instead of taking as much needed to boost his strength. Also he is pissed off at that the government doesn't have confidence in his strength as per Kuma's words. That overconfidence cost him his victory.

He gets a lot of clout within the OP world for surviving his encounter with kaido, but that encounter is what permanently scars Moria and makes him a weaker warlord. before the encounter he was a promising rookie much like luffy is but after having his whole crew destroyed by kaido he loses ambition and confidence. his lazy reliance on the power of others is what allows him to be no diffed by luffy who still has that ambition Moria loss. thats why he gets packed up as soon as he has to rely on his own power

In fact I believe that every crew member has an unyielding amount of loyalty and belief in Luffy winning, because they all were once in that situation where they doubted his resolve and were proven wrong. And they have seen this happen to others time and time again of Luffy overcoming such overwhelming odds and accomplishing his goal each arc, they no longer question his ability, will or love for his crew mates. Putting their complete trust and faith in him. Which is why they let him have his 1v1s, out of respect and belief. Luffy's will to protect his crew is also so strong that he would be willing to do whatever it takes to protect them, even if it means risking his own life. So when Usopp expresses concern or any other crew member for that matter, it’s not to doubt Luffy’s strength, but of fear for his well being.

Oda does eventually find his stride later in the story after the TS though, and everything really clicks into place via hindsight as well which is awesome. Also yes! Originally the story was meant to be a much smaller scale but everything expanded because Oda has too many ideas

Apparently, the seven warlords or the new world weren't intially meant to exist (someone correct me if i'm wrong) Luffy was meant to come into contact with a yonko when they entered the grand line. Though it can be assumed and possibly implied that the government sent their “loyal dog” to also check up on Moria while reporting due to their concern of the Strawhats’s threat level, as Kuma mentioned in those few epsiodes back.
