UBW 5-7

No way he survived this

Comments

Wait that’s so epic. I definitely need a rewatch with a better understanding

Cannon Andrus

This was the anime that got me really into anime years back!! So glad you guys are watching this

I feel like starting with UBW just puts you off on the wrong foot, Zero explains so much more and gets so much deeper. I get that it may be hard to understand but it fleshes out the world more

I'm very happy that you guys feel satisfied with watching Fate/Zero first! It's a very contentious debate on whether you should start with it or UBW. My whole argument with this watch order has always been world building. You learn so much more about the intricacies & lore of the Holy Grail War, master/servant connections, and the motivations of mages from Zero.

I love the character dynamics in UBW. I think one big difference from Fate/Zero is that they're more complex. And I'm anticipating Cannon's and McKay's 180° opinion flip with Saber.

From the visual novel: "Yeah------I'm relieved." He quietly closed his eyes and his life ended........ Since he looked so peaceful, I thought he would wake up again in the morning, so I didn't disturb him. Perhaps being used to seeing death factored in too. Without doing anything, I just looked up at the man who was my father, as he entered a long sleep. There were no sounds of insects in the garden as it was silent. In the bright night, I remember only my eyes being hot. I did not cry out nor did I feel sad. But I could not stop my tears until the moon sunk.

Linus Pettersson

Yes, he did due to the curse of the grail we saw in Fate/Zero, that grail mud/muck. If you remember he saw Irisviel as the 'will of the grail' and when he was killing it she also said "I curse you Kiritsugu Emiya... Angra Mainyu curses you.. suffer... lament until the day you die" (that name isnt really important for now.) so at the age of 34, five years after the Fourth Holy Grail War, due to the curse inflicted by the grail his body began to deteriorate, leaving him with failing sight, weak limbs, and the inability to use magecraft. He spent his final moments with Shirou, watching the moon and reflecting on his desire to be a hero of justice and could be at peace when he heard Shirou say he was going to be one for him instead. In the visual novel Shirou noticed that Kiritsugu didn't wake up after he said "I'm relieved" or "I can be at peace now" one of the two, and Shirou just cried, it was really sad

Bruhhhh no way he’s dead

Yes, they were talking about Kiritsugu in Rin's house. It wasnt really mentioned but he passed away right after he said his final line when talking with shirou in that scene of them together. like they said in the episode Kiritsugu didn't really want Shirou to be involved in the mage business and only taught him a little, and always told him to quit if he wanted, to Rin that is absurd considering her mage upbringing, that Kiritsugu was a father instead of a mage to Shirou, she probably envies that, Kiritsugu really is a goat. And the blonde guy you mention has already been revealed to be Gilgamesh when he showed up in the church and talked with Kirei in episode 3. Also the magic Rin used on her leg was also strenghtening or fortification magic, the same one Shirou uses, you said it looked like Shirous magic because it is, she just used it on her leg that one time unlike Shirou, because the way shirou does it is a bit different, how he visualize the components and stuff.

Linus Pettersson

Because every other time she has saved his life and then suddenly goes after him when Saber isn’t around, but again he shows her his good side, saves her life and she then makes a truce with him. She’s struggling to push against her nature that according to people like Kirei you should kill the other masters because it’s the quickest most efficient way to win the grail war, she’s pushing against her nature because Shirou is challenging it as an outsider and helping her to see that there are other options besides that. Just like she said too, Shirou’s father was a father first and a mage second, she has different values and he is showing her a different way that challenges her beliefs. It seems that she truly doesn’t want to kill him, as she has had multiple chances and didn’t actually follow through with it.

I guess you guys must have forgot or maybe just didn't quite understand it since it was so early in fate zero, but magic crests and mage families are the very core of mage society in Fate. It was explained in the lecture from El-Melloi that Waver attended at the very start. Basically because no single person can unravel all the mysteries of magic/the world in one lifetime, mage families pass on all their accumulated knowledge through magic crests to the heir of each family. Like Rin said in these episodes, she is able to cast any spell her family has discovered in their history simply by channeling mana into it. Because of this, mage families and traditions are so important, and generally the older a family the more powerful they are. Waver was mocked by El-Melloi because he was only a 3rd generation mage, meaning he is basically a complete beginner. Also a lil side note, the reason Rin always has a gem with her for stuff, is because her family is specialized in jewel magecraft, just like the Matous specialize in absorption(shown through crest worms and other insects), and the Einzberns specialize in alchemy(which is shown in their ability to create humonculi through Alchemy).

Give them time bro, not everyone is locking into every detail when they watch anime. Sometimes it's about casually enjoying the content and piecing it together at your own pace. Not everyone is going to retain every detail, they are doing a great job considering they are watching and posting so many different types of anime at once.

Its such a shame that Jack seems to not understand the story at all and forgot all he learned in Fate Zero. His comments make 0 sense considering the lore of the show. Even Mckay Special-effects-for-brains is getting it more then Jack. Come on Jack step up your game bro😭😭 where did Prime Jack go? "What if he wished for the Grail war to cease existing?" jack asked. Though it was most LITERALLY what Kiritsugu asked when he got the Grail. To end all wars

Izaya

Rin could have killed him in his sleep multiple times since episode 0. She gave him multiple chances and warned him that their truce is over, why is Jack shook that she was attacking him? and another thing, since its not clear from Fate Zero. The moment the normal world gets involved in Grail War buiseness they need to stop. When Caster started messing witht he CIty in Zero it was immediate truce between masters. If a normal human got involved protecting the secret of the Grail War is more important.
