It isn't super long but it's enough to get you guys rooted in how the system works and how's it's going to progress. There are also multiple creators that have made videos explaining what was cut out in ep 1 and 2. Some might find that as a spoiler but I'd guess you'd rather be in the know than slightly confused for the rest of season. But the pacing from this episode onward is supposedly going to get better. Idk if they're gonna explain more but i hope they do.

There's 22 pathways as explained in each episode's intro, and each of the 22 pathways has 9 sequences. Each sequence is called a different name (which is probably what's causing the confusion), while the name of the pathway typically matches the name of its sequence 9 name. For example, the Sleepless Pathway's sequence 9 is called Sleepless. Once you enter a Pathway through its Sequence 9, you can only keep going through that Pathway. Therefore, a Sequence 9 Sleepless can only progress to a Sequence 8 Midnight Poet, as they are part of the same Sleepless Pathway. Advancing to a higher (lower number) sequence grants new abilities while making current ones stronger. The currently known sequences and pathways are already listed by some other comments. For Klein's abilities shown so far, he is a Seer so he is good at mysticism and divination. Using the dowsing rod to locate people is part of this. In this episode, he is using the pendant to "confirm" his statements. It is shown to circle around to confirm what he is thinking about, which is why he said the warehouse is dangerous, and also why he did it above the gray fog to know if it is safe to return to the real world. For breakdown videos, I don't think there really are any out yet except for one posted by AniNews on Youtube, which only goes through part of episode one. The director and author also mentioned reordering some novel events so some of the skipped content in episodes 1-3 may actually be shown later. I also recommend the extra official released content on Youtube recommended by other comments (Mysticism classes and the chibi shorts). No need to react to them, it just goes over information and details that were skipped.

2025-07-08 14:28:54 +0000 UTCto clear things up a bit, (these are all shown in the subs so not spoilers or anything), the evernight church has access to 4 pathways, including every sequence in the sleepless pathway, plus the corpse collector pathway, the mystery pryer pathway, as well as sequence 9 of the seer pathway. from what we know right now it goes 9-sleepless, 8-midnight poet, 7-nightmare, also 9-corpse collector, 8-grave digger, 7-spirit medium, we dont know higher sequences for mystery pryer, and seers sequeunce 8 is clown but we dont have the formula for it yet. Other pathways mentioned in the show include Apprentice, Marauder, Sailor, and Spectator.

In EP. 1, you see him perform the same ritual before he enters that dimension for the first time.

2025-07-08 13:36:04 +0000 UTCI agree with everyone suggesting to watch the mini episodes on Merlin Sparrow's yt channel, it does not go into as much detail as the novel but it definitely helps provide context on the donghua. They have a short ep on Zhou's previous life and how he transmigrated into Klein, and a scene of him buying his cane which gives us more insight into his character since they skipped these scenes in the donghua. Meanwhile, Old Neil's classes goes into the LOTM world's geography, currency, language, pathways, beyonder organizations, spirit vision etc. As another commenter said, these are information that they already revealed at this point in the LN but the donghua might still explain them through future "regular episodes" so some information can technically be considered a spoiler. But I think it's worth it to still watch these mini episodes rn since it would help lessen the confusion for future eps which can heighten your enjoyment of the show^^

Also abilities don't get explained because everything happens from Klein's perspective. It goes against the norm of regular anime stuff where people always explain their abilities as they happen, which is really dumb. LotM puts great importance on prep time and knowledge. It's a very different show compared to "standard" anime. You'll most likely learn things as Klein learns them.

The only thing is that I’ve watched so many Japanese shows growing up that I pick up on Japanese words more easily so getting into Chinese, I realised I have to concentrate a lil harder on the subtitles especially as I get distracted by the beautiful visuals

Since this was information that was already covered at this point in the light novel, but the anime has a faster pace and hasn't had time to talk about them. I think crunchyroll hasn't released them for some reason, but if you can find them I definitely recommend watching them !

The faces in this show so far remind me of game cutscenes, very bland, the story is interesting though because of the mystery aspect but it doesn't feel emotional yet like just some sherlock holmes story.

From the few scenes I've seen from skimming through the reactions, it somehow reminds me of Ergo Proxy, but maybe it's just that dark vibe. One of those few scenes I mentioned was the floating cane, which also reminds me of something from Castlevania (9999999th Gek Castlevania reaction request).
