I think it's more that he realizes it won't accomplish anything. It's not comparable because he HAD to kill someone to pass the round before. He was also very much projecting his own guilt onto Dae-ho.

Seeing Gi-hun lead a rebellion against the soldiers last season was probably the highlight of the series to me. I know it was just a shootout, but it was satisfying to see people fight instead of submit. One of my favorite parts of season 1 was when they showed a contestant grab a guard's gun and take him hostage to avoid dying.

The actor who plays him, Jeon Seok-ho is one of my favorites. I've seen a lot of his dramas. He's a really good actor and well known in the industry.
