"I see guys like the wind guy and I'm like "How does Deku grow up and surpass him by like a large margin?" - That's honestly such a valid question. I literally thought the same on my first watch as well, because the world just seems so big when talking about the kind of scale Izuku is supposed to face in the future aka All For One, and living up to All Might's legacy as the Symbol of Peace. It really puts into perspective how insignificant Izuku seems now at this point when we compare him with someone who topped the recommendations list for enrolling UA students. Inasa (the wind guy) is very much someone who has both talent and passion, who has also trained very hard. Izuku is kind of still playing catch up with all his peers and rivals since he only just received his quirk 4 months plus ago. But he's improving at a tremendous rate, that's what I'll say. I know it seems hard to visualise him being as strong as if not stronger than Inasa, but don't worry too much. MHA does a pretty good job of slowly building up its main character(s).

I like how Aizawa learned from past experiences with UA students being target right off the bat and had them learn new techniques that others wouldn't have seen in the sports festival. I'm excited for the next drop!

You’ve got Midoriya acknowledging he has to be able to save himself first in order to save others, and the class more broadly thinking of what Bakugou and Deku’s do as guideposts to succeed, with even Aizawa acknowledging that their rivalry and actions push the class to be better. It’s great!

That said, trying to get their hero licenses is necessary to advance the plot and had to happen eventually. I think that’s why opinions on season 3 are so split, some people say it’s their favourite while others rank it lower

I think on first watch people are down on it because they just finished watching peak with the villain raid and All Might vs AFO. On rewatches people know what comes next and generally like that a lot more too, so this arc always feels like a lull haha. That said, it really just isn't long enough for me to feel too strongly about it, it's not peak but it also doesn't drag.

Even weakened All Might in episode 2 punched so hard that the weather changed, wind guy wouldn't be able to do a thing to him despite how strong he is. The main thing is that everyone else here has had their quirk for like 10+ years, while Deku has had his for a couple of months. It very much is a technique thing and Deku just hasn't had nearly enough time to actually figure things out.
