I do like the Ellie and Nora scene, but I wish we saw Ellie's drive and urgency - Idk, I get what the show runners are trying to do but I'll wait till S2 is finished before making up my mind

2025-05-12 22:28:25 +0000 UTCListen to the post episode podcasts with the creator of the show Craig Mazin. It’s very clear that he’s writing it this way on purpose. For whatever reason he seems to want to keep infantilizing Ellie and make Dina the one dragging her along. He says stuff like Ellie/Dina have a “parent child relationship” and that “Dina came on the trip because she’s the smart one that has a plan and Ellie doesn’t know what she’s doing”. and you can kind of see this the way they always have Dina having to remind Ellie of stuff like she’s an idiot. Two times in this episode they went out of their way to add in jokes about Ellie basically being stupid, for no reason. Jesse comes in all angry basically treating her like a dumbass kid. Idk what the guys problem is but he clearly doesn’t understand the character.

2025-05-12 21:29:51 +0000 UTCThe story that tv show Dina told about her family being murdered by that raider IS NOT in the game. Her feelings about revenge are completely OPOSITE in the game. It is a CRITICAL difference that changes the impact of her character in a BIG way. If the ending of the tv show is the same as the ending of the game, how she feels about revenge in the tv show, will make her the biggest hypocrite during the ending of the tv show. Her telling that story of her family's murder in the tv show would make her reaction to Ellie's decision at the end of the game make no sense. I really dislike the changes they are introducing to the characters. In the game, Dina is probably the ONE GOOD thing that happens to Ellie after Joel's death, and her thinking LIFE is more important than taking revenge is what makes her a great character in the game. Where they are going with tv show Dina and her stance on revenge in this stupid scene she told about her childhood I have no idea. Also, Dina giving the choice about them continuing or not to Ellie and that whole conversation is NOT in the game. It is so stupid how much they are adding to the show that changes the characters in a HUGELY bad way. Dina is her own person in the game. She doesn't let Ellie make choices for her like in that stupid scene. Ellie is NOT stupid or rash or immature in the game as she is being portrayed in the tv show. In the game she is so much more mature, extremely focused on the mission, and isn't a second fiddle to Dina as in the tv show. Don't get me wrong, I like the tv show Dina actress, but they are obviously using her as a walking stick for a job they probably don't think Bella Ramsey can convincingly handle herself - which is to play a murderous revenge driven force of nature that Ellie becomes in the second game.

Nothing stands out. It’s just a solid watch. There are many amazing high quality unpopular shows out there that will never get recognized. Hidden gems. So when you’ve watched almost everything known to man this show is only just passable, tolerable and moderate. Still, it’s entertaining enough to get a pass. And I’ll spam every TLOU comment section with the same thing I’ve been saying since day one. Tommy better not die! He must live on through Joel.

But I just can’t help but think that Ellie in the show is not it compared to the game. No spoilers but the Ellie in the Nora scene, that was great, but she’s supposed to be like that for all of Seattle. The fact that DINA is the one having to give ELLIE a monologue about how angry she is over Joel, how she’s gonna go to the ends of the Earth to kill Abby, etc. Just feels wrong. It would be like making an adaptation of Attack on Titan where Eren is happy go lucky and Armin is the one giving him speeches reminding him to get angry because titans ate his mom. In fact Dina in the show is more like game Ellie than Ellie herself and it’s really strange to me. She’s the one driving everything forward and getting shit done while Ellie jokes about being a dad, triangles, and just wanders around looking at guitars. In the game Ellie is angry, brutal, relentless, the ENTIRE time, she can barely bring herself to have a happy first reaction to Dina being pregnant because her first instinct is that she’s gonna get in the way. By the time she gets to Nora she’s already spent hours slaughtering WLF soldiers, jamming knives in their windpipes with no remorse, etc. it feels like a slow descent into hell, basically Ellie is supposed to be in “Joel killing everybody in the hospital mode” for mostly the entire game. while in the show she’s joking around 90% of the time, then magically slips into the hospital and teleports to Nora. Hopefully the Nora scene was a turning point but I mean at this point it took until the last 2 minutes of episode 5 in a 7 episode series for Ellie to feel like Ellie

The show version of Ellie is portrayed as less intelligent and mature than Ellie in the game, so a lot of scenes have a different feeling. I don't know how to fully describe it, but Ellie feels more reluctant and less outwardly angry in the game's version of the scene.

It happens all the time with anything that is adapted from another form of media. I've played both games and all the changes so far have been a big improvement, and even the ones where at the time time I've questioned the changes, and some of the changes will seem odd, if you just wait till the next episode or so when those changes come into play, they make perfect sense. I've read most of the 1 star reviews, and they say nothing intelligent just wah its not scene for scene from the game the game, or wah ellies "ugly" or wah "abbie's not buff", same people that review bombed the 2nd game because of Joels death

2025-05-12 08:15:01 +0000 UTCthe quality of the show isnt the issue. its all of these crazy ass changes there making while they are adapting an already (IMO) mid-ish story. that being said, i will say though SOME of the changes they made in previous episodes ive liked. the issues most people are having with this season is honestly something you wouldnt really understand unless you played the game. cause from the outside looking in and not having any knowledge of the game, this could be an amazing show from that perspective, But having played the game, a large majority of these changes are so unnecessary and making the story worse. i really would love if you guys did a play through of both games and see what your opinions are afterwards.

Also, I'm so glad you clarified that you're down to play the second game before the next season of the show releases. I misinterpreted a reply Cannon made to a comment on a previous post, which made it seem like you guys would wait. As for the playtime, it can vary a lot depending on how you play the games. For TLoU P1, the average playtime is around 14ish hours, but you shouldn't skip the DLC (this covers Ellie and her best friend from S1), which only adds a few hours. TLoU P2 is significantly longer at around 24ish hours, which is why we'll need another season to cover all of it.
