You discover so much lore about the outbreak, survivors, and more through exploration for supplies. It's like comparing a book to a movie: The movie is good, but the book is so much better. Plus, the first game got remastered, so it's gorgeous

Another excellent aspect of bringing a video to game to television: you can flesh out character histories without it feeling like you’re lacking actual gameplay! On another note, more changes to the story beget more divisive opinions, I just hope people don’t become too blinded by these tweaks. There’s a podcast that some key TLOU folks (o.g game writer, show writer, and Joel’s voice actor) have where they discuss the episode and video game and the changes, etc. and it’s worth listening to it, especially if you’ve played the games!

I will say I loved this ep, the way Ellie and Dina were sneaking away from the wlf gave me the exact feeling of the game. The zombie escape sequence was great too. Personally this ep is prob the most I enjoyed Bella as Ellie so we’ll see if that can continue for future eps. Also yall should 100% play the games. The first one is universally praised as one of the best games ever and the second is still worth playing for the gameplay alone but story-wise, very divisive.

Dina was thinking about doing it for a while and then ellie getting bit meant that could never happen now, dina was probably heartbroken. Then Dina finds out that Ellie isnt actually dead and they can have a future together. So Dina doesnt hold back now shows her feelings to ellie.

But man, there’s just stuff they can’t fully capture from the games. In the game Joel dying happens like an hour in and is a super linear sequence. But Ellie and Dina going to Seattle is when you can feel the game opening up, you spend literal hours getting to explore Seattle where it’s relatively open ended etc. The show just feels super fast for some parts of Seattle but also like not enough is happening considering this is only 7 episodes. Also in the game Ellie was much darker and more obsessed with revenge. Like you guys said it kinda feels like they’re not locked in on their mission here lol

That’s why the guitar looks pristine even though it’s been exposed to the weather for 26-27 years. Honestly one of my favorite little realistic details they added to the show vs the game. It’s like how most gas isn’t as potent anymore like they mentioned in season 1. I’m a fun fact geek so stuff like that just tickles a spot in my brain

2025-05-05 08:34:50 +0000 UTCI liked this episode but I’m concerned that they cut the “Dina becoming a burden” scene in the theater because that is so important in showing how unhealthy this whole thing is for Ellie. The “I’m gonna be a dad” line was funny but Ellie should be terrified about the fact that Dina’s pregnant, and mad that it could jeopardize her revenge plans. I felt like they moved on a little too quickly for something so big. Ashley Johnson's version of Take On Me was something Bella couldn't ever even come close to as well. Please do a playthrough of the game on stream it really does justice to these characters. So far season 2 has the infected Jackson fight as it's only W for me compared to the video game. Overall the action scene's were 7/10 but the rest of the episode was 6/10.

The infected are alive and in order to stay that way, they need sustenance, even if their metabolic rate is lower. The infected are better explored in the games as well. The flare scene in the tunnel was interesting.

Obviously, you can play the first game without spoilers, so no issue there. I just don't think it's worth waiting, probably ~2 years, to play the second game. The game is the definitive way to experience the story imo, and I think it'd be an interesting change if you were to know the ending before the other Geks. If you plan on having them watch your playthrough, then that's obviously different. It would still be cool if they were all down to watch the second game before the next season in like ~2 years though haha.
