2025-04-28 06:25:16 +0000 UTCThis last episode of season 3 is so haunting; especially from the moment when Eren kisses historia's hand at the medal ceremony on; and right before that, when he's talking with Armin in a hopeful way about the sea and freedom as we've seen so many times throughout the show which has been so pure and encouraging, and then in the midst of that Eren sees the memories of grisha's sister being brutalized by those marleyan dogs; I love how when Eren kisses historia's hand and has the flashback of grisha confronting Frieda in the ceremonial cave, he has memories first from grisha's perspective, and then finally from freida's (since he inherited both of their memories), where he sees (and we get to see) grisha's indescribably anguished expression; and then we come back to the present and see Eren wearing that same expression; and it just hangs there for a few seconds, with Levi and Hange and historia looking at him in shock, with no music, nothing to distract from that discomfort; and gently fades into the next scene; a gentle transition that is juxtaposed with the incredible intensity of what that moment contains; the way that titan they encounter on the way to the sea is so vulnerable and has such a soulful, mournful, human expression (something that was drawn to my attention in an analysis video I watched), which pairs nicely with our newfound knowledge of the true identity of the titans, as tortured and tragic eldians caught in a savage nightmare just like the characters we've grown to love; their monstrosity now revealed to be the monstrosity made manifest of this cycle of war that they're all caught in; the way Armin holds that seashell so tenderly and let's it sink down slowly as he feels the weight of eren's proclamation at the end, as if he's holding the dreams and hopes and the vulnerable humanity of everyone on all sides, so delicate and so pure, right there in his hands, threatened by the reality of what Eren is naming (but he is still holding on to the shell, there is still hope); and another thing I have that analysis video to thank for being able to notice: every single other character in that final sequence has an expression of open innocent amazement and/or outright joy at various points; but eren's expression alone, for that whole sequence, is one of unwavering and hardened stoicism; until the very end, when he's talking with Armin, about the enemies across the sea, and he lifts his arm in this way as if a puppet master is lifting it by an invisible unseen string, and his expression and his voice are twisted in defeat and desperation; and they're in this beautiful paradise with that gentle piano playing; the juxtaposition of that gentleness and beauty with the weight of their situation and especially of eren's unique perspective and awareness; the orchestration of this whole scene is just so artful and communicates so much with such subtlety and tenderness, and capitalizes so well on all that's been built and experienced in the whole show

He is wonderfully written in my opinion, what he says and how he acts is very logical. If I was in a unit that was bombarded by rocks and miraculously survived, I would be as salty and depressed as he was. Yes, Falco and Colt are nephews of Grice guy that got Grisha in the Patriots team. Porco calling Ymir pitiful is just sad. Can't imagine in what state Ymir was in, willingly going to sacrifice her life.

2025-04-26 12:35:48 +0000 UTCIn my first watch (and subsequent rewatches of the show), I did not get the intricacies of floch's character. The extreme opinions of him at the time made me feel like I had to pick a side and I failed to remember that aot is decidedly NOT about everything being black and white. So I have to commend the fact that Bradlynn had such a nuanced take in relation to him like Pham Hung pointed out. She picked up on things that I didn't even consider. I'm beginning to understand floch's values/beliefs and can now see an interesting parallel between him and jean. Floch at the ceremony is similar to how jean was in season 1 in the sense that they both sorta tell it like it is without much filter. In that sense you can see some of jean's growth here; he's more courteous than he used to be. He's not necessarily saying that floch shouldn't voice his opinion at all, he just thinks that there's a time and place for these sort of discussions and the funeral was not one of them, showing that he isn't the "insincere jerk who only thinks about himself" (reiner's words) anymore. All in all, I'm excited to continue this rewatch and hopefully I'll be able to point out more similarities between the two.

One way is directed so “an attack on titans” but another is a way to describe a subject “the attack titan”. I like to think that when they translated the title to “attack on titan” they thought it was because they are at war with titans, but then the big reveal is that the real meaning of the title is the “attack titan.” It was probably another level of mind blowing to native Japanese speakers because the “shingeki no kyojin” reveal literally changed the meaning of the title of the story. I was just starting to take some Japanese classes at the time this was revealed and it blew me away.

That’s smth I was thinking at this point of the series because I really saw no other solution. While it’s obvious what the Marlayns are doing is wrong, their fears aren’t made up. The power of the titans does exist, the innate danger of the Eldians just because of their blood is a real thing (and we saw how it was abused long ago). Again, it’s not right to enslave them and treat them as cattle and there’s no excuse for that, but realistically, ppl will refuse to live in peace with what are basically ticking time bombs no matter how kind they are (ppl already refuse to live in peace with one another for much dumber reasons). The question is, how do you get rid of smth in your blood 😭??

It’s the sadness of Armin realizing his and Eren’s dream that they’ve shared since childhood wasn’t actually a shared dream. Armin wanted to see the sea for its own sake, while Eren was dreaming about the ideal of freedom the sea represented. He’s too busy contemplating killing his enemies to even notice the sea shell his best friend is trying to show him. We're kind of rushed through the whole interior police arc, and while I think the timeskip in s4 is cool, I wish we got to see a more gradual progression for the characters in that four-year gap.

Carter learning to appreciate Armin more is also peak; they're having reverse character arcs. Also, Bradlynn hit the nail straight on the head with Floch - insane for a first watch to have such a nuanced view of an intended polarizing character. A minor detail is that when Floch & Co. joined, Erwin wasn't the one delivering the recruitment speech because he was busy planning. Erwin has always been brutally honest; everyone else was high on morale after the coup, thinking that Shiganshina could be an easy win. Re: the shell at the end symbolizes the wall and their ignorance. Like a hermit crab, the Scouts are no longer bound by their shells, and the world literally and figuratively opens up for all its horrors and wonders alike.
