It might even make some of them tear up because I sure did 😭 I think Thriller Bark and Skypiea both get unnecessary hate because of their placement in the series being right before amazing sagas

the scene of wyper remembering the story of kalgara and noland (a shandian trusting a weird intruder to save his people) as he watches luffy going up to beat enel tf up and stop him from fully destroying his land. him realizing that history is repeating itself and now he needs to have faith in this (also) weird intruder, and let him help to give closure to the tragic story they've been living as a civilization for hundreds of years now... i don't know how people don't find that epic and huge for luffy as a character. hearing ya'll glaze this arc is music to my ears fr, the way i've defended skypiea FOR YEARS now, i'm so glad that you guys loved it♡. you guys getting one piece so well this early on (in terms of good arcs lol) makes me so excited for the future, as a lot of ppl has said already, it just gets so much better from now on, can't wait for water 7!!!

Just to clarify because I'm not sure if you guys remember, the straw hats had to go to sky island because their log pose was directing them to it. The golden city was a big motivator for Luffy but overall they had to so they could set their log pose to the next island.

Long Ring Long Land is from a narrative and literary point of view a solid arc, sets up the themes of the saga almost perfectly and bar for bar in a lower stakes environment and fufills the role of sampling the story as an introduction, it gets a lot of unneeded hate. However, I think on a surface level it does fall short and fails as a light hearted arc to break up the intensity of skypiea and water 7, I don't think it should be skipped due to key moments happening in it (Ice), yet I don't fault for anyone thinking its ungodly boring especially if you watch one piece for the action, I would love to see LRLL reimagined with an event akin to the start of One Piece: Stampede, would solve a lot of its problems imo.

I love the g8 filler arc, and recommend anyone who asks if they should watch it to definetely watch it through, but I think its perfectly fine to skip. The only 'mandatory' filler I would say is Fan letter since it really does elevate certain moments it features to new levels. Especially as reactors trying to satisfy an audience and working their way through one piece, if they feel the need to use one pace I think skipping G8 to get to stuff like water 7 sooner is okay.

its later on when it gets more controversial, where they seriously start changing some fights and even taking out some big animation budget moments later on bc they aren't canon. I won't say what but if you're caught up on the most recent 3 arcs in the anime you'll have an idea what i mean. Its possible they've received feedback and fixed some of that or added it back, but I'm not 100% sure. Someone who has gone through it recently may need to confirm.

also one thing i wanna shed light on is speech patterns you might've missed to due translation, whenever usopp goes " i will do this attack" or whatever he uses the term "ore sama" which roughly translates to "the great me" so he'd be saying " the great me will take down this beanstalk" if you would analyze a character based on their speech pattern i would say it's as if usopp is trying to compensate being, as you guys describe, useless with terms like "captain usopp" or "ore sama" also im pretty sure a lot of people have mentioned already how robin address the straw hats with their positions to their faces rather than name (except sometimes luffy for reasons cant be mentioned now) but it's a few cool takeaways you can keep in mind this far into the story

I don't think it's the ONLY time (there's when he thinks of a doctor in Drum Island too, at least in the manga), but yeah, usually his thoughts is conveyed in images rather than words. Which I really like! The combination of showing him remembering something and then acting with that in mind is a great way to show character IMO. It's done here too: when Ener says he's going to destroy the whole of Skypiea Luffy remembers first Conis breaking down over leading them into a trap in the beginning, and Aisa asking if her home is going to be destroyed. He turns visibly angrier at these memories, and goes in for the last punch. This happens a lot, and I just love this as a storytelling mechanism, it's such a natural way to build characterisation.

i totally get what carter was trying to say and only recently was able to articulate what exactly one piece does that's different from other shows like demon slayer. oda takes his time to step away from his main characters for however long is needed to build backstories and characters, some people (quite the illiterate part of the fandom) will go and say it's boring, but it's truly what makes an arc great and memorable. it makes the pay offs so satisfying because oda was confident enough in his storytelling to get you invested in these side characters that are not even there in the story anymore. it makes it feel like you learned real history of people who lived breathed suffered and died. which makes you want to see them get the justice they deserve. going back to the comparison to demon slayer, it is a character focused story, it was always about tanjiro and nezuko, even if the author wanted to shed light on other character/ demons, they're always structured to happen at a specific time (when they are defeated) the author never dedicated 50+chapters away from her main cast to explore other narratives and characters due to the fear of losing readerships. i don't mean to glaze oda, but think about it, having to release 1 chapter a week and having those chapter not include the main cast at all and still ranking super high in readership is insane and impressive.

Hm, I feel that's missing the point of their characters a bit? The parallel is that Wyper and Cricket are a sort of proxies for Kalgara and Norland, that Wyper feels a connection to Cricket through his presence, feels as if he has a chance to speak to Norland through Cricket, and himself sending the message in place of Kalgara. He's not supposed to talk about them as "them", as something outside himself in this moment, IMO.

The Skypeia story and setup is really great, but watching it outside of One Pace is a drag. It has 63 episodes outside in the normal version. In One Pace it has 23. That 40 episodes less. The major flaw of the One Piece anime has always been the pacing.

One Piece week? Can’t wait! Predictions are overrated, it’s much more interesting to hear you talk about what you think of what you’ve seen than what might happen in the future. And agreed, the way past and future is tied together is one of One Piece’s greatest strengths. And I’d say that all parts of the story are important, and I don’t think that there is any arc that is completely standalone. Except for Gaimon, if you count that. Yeah, there’s no impact damage on rubber, which makes the impact dials so special (ironically, with the name, lol). They create a shockwave that causes internal damage even on Luffy, bypassing his powers. When Wyper says that the ”land” won’t be defeated, it’s very much literal, as he’s talking about ”daichi” (大地), the actual earth/ground. As in, lightning strikes may destroy the island clouds, but it can’t destroy the ground that is made of earth. The anime removes a lot of blood, which occasionally makes it harder to see what’s going on. Ener’s attacks names a whole bunch of different thunder gods, and by the end there he takes the shape of Raijin (from Buddhism/Shinto). The thing that looks like a floaty shawl around his shoulders is called a Hagoromo, and is often used to imply or denote divinity (in myths it’s a tool to help gods and other divine beings fly). You’ve probably seen it in other anime as well. I think Skypiea is peak romanticism of One Piece. I still got goosebumps when Luffy hit the golden bell. But story, lore and emotion wise future arcs are way more impressive.

The skip Skypiea thing has become a meme now but there were people really arguing for it. Skypiea in general got a lot of flack for some reason but has gone through a redemption arc in the fandom. Imo it was always great, the location, the humor, the themes, everything. It's a really well-written arc and I'm glad you guys enjoyed it even though it's disconnected from the main story

Damn, OG one piece had a really good line from Wyper that I guess wasn’t manga canon. After finding out that Noland’s ancestors have still been believing in Noland’s claims, Wyper says while crying: “what patient people they are!”. It was really moving

I think a lot of people don’t love Skypiea because the Straw Hats kind of take a backseat, and it doesn’t really feel like it’s about them. But the backstory is really well done, and the way it all ties back to Jaya is super clever. I’d say Skypiea is B-tier for me. Water 7-EL is S tier.

G8 is good but not good enough to go out of your way to watch 10 episodes. Its filler, and Carter has already said, he doesn't know how to feel about skypiea feeling so disconnected. Also what is One Piece week? Will it just be a One Piece binge week?

It’s not even just about the peak moments or character introductions. TB is literally the bridge between past events (yk) and major future arcs (S..dy, WCI, W).
