The reason it took longer with the last episodes is that they're fitting in the canon moments that Toei chopped up with their filler, and the editing takes longer for that (scenes from *checks* 207 and 225 that was mentioned before).

One Pace has around 50 EPISODES (excluding Davy Back saga) and One Piece has around 87 episodes (Excluding Davy Back Saga). HOWEVER, One Pace episodes are significantly longer than normal episodes. I clicked through a bunch, there are often 30 minute epsidoes, 29, 22, 35, whatever it is. One of them was 40 fucking minutes for an episode? Like bro that is just two episodes at that point 😭😭😭It's like people that want One Pace don't realise that yes, while there is less episodes, they are often much longer and would MAKE UP for most of the time cut, where it would GENUINELY be close-ish to the original. And then at that point, why are you even watching the edited version.

I am NOT someone that hates one pace, it's actually impressed me so much how enjoyable it made Skypiea, but w7 is mostly regarded as a very well adapted and engaging watch (Of course use it for the foxy pirates arc though that shit was dragged on way too long) I have watched so many reactors go through w7/el, and none of them EVER complain about pacing. I didn't even notice it all. In the WIT remake, I wouldn't be suprised if this is one of the arcs that isn't cut down a lot in episodes. There is so much going on in this arc, and the way they present it, in my eyes is not only just to the manga, but elevates it and makes such a fucking good watching experience PLEASE do not use one pace for w7. It's insane that people want One Pace for the rest of the series, when a VERY HIGH MAJORITY of people that watched One Piece, DID NOT watch One Pace and still loved the anime experience more than anything else. And again I'm not saying never use it again, but what is the actual problem with them watching the show in the original arcs at times? I know carter has said he wanted to, And I definitely get that appeal. Idk end of the day, who cares, the geks should do what they want, but w7 in it's original form felt so fucking perfect to me, and made a lot of us fall in love with the show

Yes some arcs One Pace isn't necessary or; it's only a marginal improvement so it doesn't matter either way. However come on... One Pace clearly makes the arc/series more enjoyable, which isn't a surprise since it's paced and includes what Oda intended.

It's just that the previous ones suffered a lot from the pacing issues. I think it can be easy to misunderstand what the problems with the pacing really are, and just go "what's wrong with more One Piece?". It's not at all about the added length, it's what's IN those added minutes. How they are used. Aside from a couple of very recent instances, they're just bloat, and usually not very creative or even funny bloat (a lot of the time it's just added shots of running or staring). And something that's even more of a problem is that the additions disturb the narrative balance. That's why moments that can seem fun or even just inconsequential can have a way worse effect in aggregate than you'd think possible. It's a bit like adding the wrong detail to an image: something that doesn't seem very big at all can upset the balance of the whole thing.

So when they use them as mock-insults/tease about them us watchers knowing they're gonna think its hype when it happens is hilarious. It sort of reminds me of luffy making fun of zoro going "3 swords" and usopp is like "thats not really an insult" and then luffy goes "ok, 4 swords, hmph" lmao. In the manga when oda uses Kanji(Japanese writing symbol that represents words) he also gives a reading(Furigana) for it with one of japan’s phonetic writing systems, so basically using letters to spell out what the kanji says( for those who may not know certain kanji). The Kanji Oda used in the manga reads as Endless earth(限りない大地) but the Furigana he used was ‘Fairy Vearth(フェアリーヴァース)’ which is how he wants it to be said/called. Basically the Kanji is to give more explanation to the name especially since Japanese people ,ah not understand those English words. So technically using either phrase for a translation is correct and I think Endless vearth is the right way to go in the subbed anime, as we can hear the actual name in the audio but get the Japanese kanji explanation/translation in the subs. Apologies for the huge amount of text, hopefully that made sense.

And in a way that makes it really hard to explain what the problem really is, becuse it's not one or two big things, it's a myriad of small changes/additions. Death of a thousand cuts, if you will, lol. Anyway, now BOTH peoples have had their homes taken from them. I was also really shocked the first time I saw Raigō just obliterate the whole island, not leaving anything behind. Also, I think this is a really good showcasing of Luffy's personality. Like you said, he's not doing this for the greater good, he's mainly doing this because he liked Cricket. But it shows how Luffy thinks about things too: a lot of people tend to say that he doesn't think about things because he doesn't have thought bubbles (although he occasionally does, as a matter of fact/nitpick), but what happens is that his actions show how he has reflected on what's going on. I love that Nami, of all people tells him to give up on the gold, though. And the way Ener just kicks Luffy's hand off like that, with that small kick, just cracks me up.

Like Canon said in any other anime the MC would say “I must defeat you and save this city” but Luffy subverts those tropes so well. The dreams thing ties back to the very beginning of the arc with Blackbeards “people dreams never end” speech, the dream of ringing the bell lasted 400 years and Luffy recognizes how important this is to montblanc and now by extension himself. Just A1 writing.

So it might be true at first what you’re saying, but not anymore, and there is more filler and dragged-out scenes than there is an added scene by Oda back in the day anyway. And another point the fans that create One Pace whole purpose is to make it closer to the manga so it is a better option.

2025-04-22 16:57:51 +0000 UTCOne Pace is amazing man especially when you guys are enjoying so much, I would suggest keep using it until there are some cool animation sequences start happening in the show because the only down side of One Pace is that it cuts everything not in the manga so sometimes when the anime finally have a cool original animation sequence that added more to the show from the manga gets cut. But it rarely happens I would say it’s only 5% of the show until modern One Piece.

In total, i think One Pace has its purpose but never forget that it is made by fans and not Oda. Regarding it being closer to the manga: Oda talks to Toei to add specific scenes or to add stuff he forgot. Remember when the Geks complained about watching Logue Town filler that wasnt in the manga? That was canon that Oda did not get the chance to add for the manga Release, so he made them add it to the anime. Ps: i dont trust fans. Same idiots who said to just skip the arc or that One Piece is not political lol

That's why he says "God, my ass" so defiantly, because the concept of god and sacrificing things to god's (his daughter and people, but now the very land they live on) based on that principle alone is already something he's previously had to confront and reject

The scene on crunchyroll is in ep 207 and is from the start of the episode until 8:40.
