Multiple times. Joel is one of my favourite characters across all media and I’m emotionally attached to his relationship with Ellie. I wanted to hate the game but... I couldn’t. This story has a lot of nuance and will challenge your emotions, empathy and morals. Part I was my comfort game, but I have a complicated relationship with Part II. It left a profound impact on me and changed my brain chemistry. It is one of the most meaningful stories I’ve ever experienced and I hope you guys get to experience what I did, even if you don’t end up loving the story.

There is supposed to be a dichotomy between her appearance and Ellie's, and parallels between their actions. Its a complex story that blurs the lines of good and bad. They kinda mixed up the story a bit to include the town being attacked as well, i guess that makes for better television. Idk how i feel about it.

Ellie was his “you keep finding something to fight for” after Sarah died, so the story is really about love, and putting part 1 & 2 together it’s all about perspective

The "Ellie not being straight" thing only upset the anti-woke crowd that games shouldn't try to satisfy anyway. The people who have a problem with the ending of the second game are typically biased imo, as it has a very similar ending to the first in certain regards.

The cordyceps need the host to be alive, that's why headshots are not needed to kill the "zombies" in this show. As long as you kill the host you good. Once a person is dead they can't come back as a zombie in this show.

It's not in his character to try and justify his actions to strangers, and he wouldn't want to openly admit that there was a chance for a cure because unfortunately, he denies it. Abby and her team actually don't know the exact situation either, we saw that at the beginning of the show with that flashback to the aftermath of Salt Lake massacre. Joel is the epitome of an antihero, and I really admired his character.

The big thing with the game was it was one of the most anticipated games of all time and 3 months before it came out Joel dying got leaked. And people were very not happy for a variety of reasons, Ellie was also confirmed to not be straight in the buildup to the game. I have no issues with either of these things but gamers in late 2019 early 2020 were very upset with both of these things. I can kind of understand the Joel frustration as it was abrupt especially as a leak. But he killed 20 people subconsciously hes a psychopath on the low lmao

Many I know and myself included didn't even really feel like finishing the game. It was made even worse when after that you have to play as Abby. FOR A LONG TIME. This was probably the biggest factor that made people despise the sequel so much. Not necessarily the events, but the sequence of events. Even then, we all still rooted for Joel. You'll learn more, but it will probably only make you hate Abby even more. There were rumors that Neil Druckmann (Director of both games) did not like people idolizing Joel for the decisions he made, but there is no proof of this and ultimately Neil wanted to tell a story about consequences, revenge, and the cycle of violence. Joel was at the center of this narrative. What would of made a more compelling story is if they had given Ellie the choice to sacrifice herself and Joel went against those wishes. But to hide this from her and kill her for the "greater good" just isn't a morally sound reason to at any point side with Abby's father or her vengeance for him. Maybe had we seen flashbacks of Joel killing the innocent people he and Tommy supposedly did it would put this monster of a doctor and his spawn from hell on equal footing with Joel. Unfortunately they didn't and instead we all looked up to Joel and rooted for his survival until they very end. RIP Joel. Probably one of the most beloved main characters of any video game and went he out extremely unceremoniously which ironically immortalizes his death that much more.

The main issue I had with the way it happened(in game) was that Joel and Tommy would not have let their guard down so easily around a new group of people. No plot armor, no talk-no-jutsu, no last-minute shenanigans no matter how hard you might have hoped for them. Just Joel and some hard consequences. I understand the annoyances with Abby, but personally I like the idea of an 'NPC' standing up for themselves and getting some real payback against the main character.

I liked Joel, but his death was an almost refreshing experience because it felt NEW. Unlike many, I became more invested because I wanted to feel more of that surprise. I think both the first and second games are masterpieces, but the reasons as to why are completely different.

I won't elaborate much yet, and was hoping people wouldn't mention how you play as Abby. I was hoping that'd be a surprise for Cannon, but I guess that's too much to expect. If you get overly attached to Joel, then yes, playing as Abby will not be fun. The game is meant to be this way, and I honestly love it lol. The first game is more about the bond that develops between Joel (an apocalypse-hardened man) and Ellie (an immune little brat) in an awful world. The second game focuses more on the gritty reality aspect; it isn't meant to satisfy the viewer. If you've watched All Quiet on the Western Front, you'd know the feeling I'm talking about.

Now he’s gone and Ellie can no longer resolve her issues with Joel. That plus seeing how Joel gets killed will definitely trigger her PTSD. Playing the game 5 years ago and witnessing this unfold for the first time destroyed me but also made me realize a lot of things - how I should not let my anger and resentments dominate me and always choose my battles. Some things turn into cycles and we should learn how to end them.

I think the main reason people were upset is because I remember when the 1st trailer came out and it was Abby tied up hanging. People thought that was Ellie's mother and we would get to know how Ellie is immune. People were hyped and I remember people were calling out Joel was going to die and weren't really upset if he did. But its just the way they did it and how the whole "message" was "revenge=bad" what a let down and overuse plot.

2025-04-21 10:28:09 +0000 UTCI do kind of appreciate that they didnt make tommy look like a dumbass cause in the game Tommy and Joel save Abby then Tommy straight up tells Abby both of there names (although he didnt know who abby was, still really dumb considering How Joel and Tommy are) then Tommy does it AGAIN when they get back to Abby's Cabin. Alot of people Hated Joel dying so early on especially after having to play as abby prior to her killing him. it was to the point people stop playing the game altogether. im not exactly sure how much they are going to change since they are gonna stretch this out through this season and season 3. Im really curious how you guys are gonna react to some of the events that happen between now and the end of S3. Aside from the certain parts of the game that were IMO just fucking awful (not in a good way) the ending is what ruined the ENTIRE story for me. i wont get to much into that but like i mentioned. im very curious how you guys are gonna feel about where this story goes. you guys are kind of the only reason im even watching this show tbh lol

Remember that the infected in this series need to eat as they're still alive. There are also some other new types, like the Stalker that you saw last episode.

2025-04-21 09:47:37 +0000 UTCI think they way the killed Joel in the game was more trauma inducing but I think the show was definitely more emotional and personal leading up to his death but like in the game Abby straight bashes Joel’s head in with the golf club so it was just a terrible ending and it really did piss a lot of people off but I think the way the show did it was really good and definitely pulled way more emotion out of me than the game

2025-04-21 08:58:34 +0000 UTCI mean there was and is still valid criticism of this story line. 1 of the biggest criticism that I remember when part 2 game came out is the whole "revenge = bad" plot line, which is so overdone and in this case in the game really poorly done because it literally forced you to play as Abby I would say 5+ hours worth of gametime. That whole time people did not care about her back story because it forced you to play her after killing Joel. I have no doubt it will take the same effect on people who haven't played the game watching the show.

The way the rest of the story unfolds is so unique, and I love how it challenges you on a moral and emotional level, something not many games do. Joel Embiid.

Seeing how much of a leader Tommy is and how connected Jackson really is was very nice. The community is big in the game but it feels a lot bigger on the show. Kaitlyn actually sounds very similar to game Abby so this is very cool!!! I like her as Abby but there are some elements to tv Abby that I know a lot of people wish were a little different but so far, she’s doing a great job. Also I swear Owen’s character’s face morphed into game Owen towards the end and it kind of freaked me out haha. Another great cast!

The show did this episode completely justice and I don’t care if anyone else thinks different. I didn’t really cry in the game but this portrayal had me bawling. You can feel the connection they all have. To me, this Ellie and Joel are still very special even if they feel a bit different. Absolute props to Pedro and Bella 🫶🏾
