2025-04-16 13:20:20 +0000 UTCAlso about the confusion with the brainwashing and Hanazawa etc. Essentially the brainwashing just makes everyone worship the tree and the Psycho Helmet religion, but doesn’t change their personalities or control their behaviour. They just do what they would usually do, but if they were really into the religion. So with Hanazawa, he sees one of his closest friends attacking the Divine Tree that he belives he worships, so obviously in his brainwashed mind he wants to stop Mob from destroying his place of worship and religious leader. He’s still in control of himself, but he’s acting to stop Mob from fighting Dimple and destroying the tree. Imagine you worship at a church and one of your best friends starts smashing in the windows and beating up the Priest. That’s essentially what Hanazawa was fighting for with the brainwashing influence, and why he wasn’t completely antagonist towards Mob or like a controlled zombie. He’s still himself, but with this added element of religious belief that he didn’t have before.

2025-04-16 07:39:14 +0000 UTCAbout Teru; I think he was under Dimple’s control but Dimple just wasn’t actively controlling his powers in that fight so Teru on his own (due to the manipulation) was going all out to defend the divine tree. And then I believe once Mob shot him out of the tree he also broke the mind control which is why he was praising Mob since he was able to resist the power of the tree

Usually in other stories, the people that are mind-controlled become zombies of sorts and don’t really resemble they’re actual selves. But here, they still keep their own personalities just with the added trait of worshiping the broccoli. They’re still fundamentally themselves but something is WRONG and that’s what’s so horrifying. I think that’s what Dimple meant when he said he wasn’t controlling Hanazawa. Dimple made him believe in the broccoli but that’s it. Every action Hanazawa took after that was his own and it’s an interesting parallel that he tries to echo back to mob what he taught him way back in season 1, that using your powers for “selfish” reasons is wrong. Ultimately what breaks Hanazawa out of the brainwashing is his admiration for mob. His respect for him was greater than his perceived love for the broccoli and that’s what makes him snap out of it.

And wow I think Dimple was telling the truth about not controlling Hanezawa. Hanezawa was just testing if Mob already succumbed to the brain washing & that’s also why he appeared so happy at the end flying into heaven because he realized how strong Mob must be to not be effected at all by Dimple’s powerful brainwashing.
