See Hinata, Kakashi, etc actually die and Naruto deal with all of it even after not killing Nagato. It's really sad that Kishimoto chose this route by reviving literally EVERYONE instead of letting the characters deal with consequences

Like there’s smth truly poetic about Nagato, who Jiraya initially thought was the child of the prophecy and was the inspiration of the hero in book, having his words used against him by Naruto, who is the actual child of the prophecy and named after the book hero who’s based off Nagato 😭

2025-04-13 06:20:21 +0000 UTCMan, the scene where Naruto, after just laying flowers on Jiraya's grave and is on the verge of collapse... then Kakashi catches him and says "Good Job" Makes me cry to this day. Naruto had HIS first true W and the entire story to this point was culminated in this Arc. I loved that Sakura, Konoha 11, and the village truly acknowledged him. With a few adjustments you could even make this a satisfying series finale but at the very least you could say it was a spiritual conclusion to "Naruto" and the Shippuden story really takes off from here.

Not an issue with this arc specifically but more with Naruto in general but this arc just embodies the “Talk no Jutsu” idea to a tee. This guy feels so strongly about his ideals he’s willing to kill his sensei, then pretty much commit genocide of an entire country, yet after a single 2 min conversation with Naruto he turns on a dime 180 says “aight that’s my bad” and gives their life to bring back everyone in the village they just destroyed. EVERYONE, like not a single person died. I understand why they do it. These are people who had the potential and desire for good but got pushed in the wrong direction and Naruto gives them the push back they need. But it’s always made me feel like the villains are just shallow and shortsighted throwing temper tantrums.

Carter I agree about kinda wishing everyone stayed dead 😂😂 I can’t speak for you or anyone of course but I have that feeling alot when watching stuff. I like to know the stakes are real and high! And when I get like faked out on a massive tragedy it kinda irks me. But sometimes you just gotta accept it and just choose to be happy if you know what I mean. This is like peak Naruto imo. But there’s still so much more to come. So many bad ass moments that couldn’t happen without everything to lead up to it! Also pain was kinda right. Wrong but so valid. And I think that’s what makes a great antagonist.

Reading the manga each week during this was so brutal. Not sure if or how Kakashi would come back and then the sweetest moment ever at the end. It was so wholesome indeed.

Even with the time skip we ended up the same age by the time Shippuden aired. There will never be another anime that beats it for me due to that fact alone. But even despite that it is one of the best ever based on majority opinion so I guess we were fortunate for that 😂

I decided if he didn’t somehow make it back then I was done with the series. Then Masashi Kishimoto gave us that masterpiece. The waiting week to week was brutal to find out how things would end but it turned out so wholesome as the boys said. Naruto’s relief and just pure affection for Kakashi written all over his face while Kakashi carries him on his back is too adorable.

Nagato used rinne-rebirth to restore the souls to every he killed in konoha. So whoever posses the rinnegan could use it, as long as they have the chakra for it

There’s obviously still a lot left but this felt like a great conclusion up to this point I actually stopped watching the show here and didn’t finish it until a few years later because they released so much filler and I had the same feelings about it then as I do now

But Naruto has not become divine yet, which is what makes it unique and in its own category. The middle of the 200s has a point where we get a taste of that divine nature and episodes 300+ is where that divine nature comes to fruition. I’ve watched this show many times and honestly, we have not seen at least 5 of the best episodes, and you could argue far more. Like I said, the arcs we just watched in the 100s are back to back action, which is what makes this stretch of the show great. But the real beauty of the show is yet to be conveyed. Naruto is unique because it is one continuous story, and that story is so divinely beautiful when it all comes together.

He infiltrated the Hidden Leaf, took down some of their top ranking shinobi like it was nothing, all while on a mission to find Naruto. Then, he obliterated the entire village. Flattened it all the way to the front gates. Right after that, he goes toe to toe with Sage Mode Naruto, the Sage Toads, Gamabunta, and the other summons and wins. Then he "fights" Hinata, which triggers Naruto to lose control and unleash the Nine Tails. Pain doesn't just survive; he holds his own against the 4th, 5th, and even the 6th tail, and nearly seals the beast with a jutsu strong enough to create the freaking moon. After all that, he fights Sage Naruto again, loses all his Six Paths bodies, and STILL was able to use Rinne Rebirth and revive the entire village. Pain wasn’t just strong.. He was on a whole different level.

This arc was amazing though, it always felt like a love letter to the series up to that point with so much stuff coming full circle. Even Konan getting captured and Nagato needing to kill Yahiko in the exact same way Kakashi described might happen if team 7 didn't work together during the bell exercise in like episode 4 where Kakashi told Sakura to kill Sasuke.

It was Hiruzen who issued the decree that no one should tell Naruto he was a jinchuriki. Instead of explaining things to him properly Naruto had no idea why everyone despised him all these years. Hiruzen isn’t the only one to blame for not telling Naruto who his parents were, but he could’ve done much better with Naruto’s upbringing. "This milk is expired" sums it up

Shikamaru is a closer and truer friend to Naruto than Sasuke ever was. All the characters we care about get shelved and are too weak to compete, and the writing becomes terrible. I don't want to post spoilers but from here on out Shippuden is best a 7/10, while episodes 75 to 175 were a 9/10.

Everything came around to the first episode, with Naruto becoming the hero of the leaf. and being appreciated, it would have been a perfect finish. I am glad they didn't bring Jiraiya it would have cheapened his death.

2025-04-12 09:37:42 +0000 UTCThe issue with Naruto's upbringing, the villagers hating him and Sarutobi taking a hands off approach with protecting him has a lot of moving parts to it. Firstly, the nine tails devastated the village when it attacked. Many ninja and civilians died as a result. The villagers hate the nine tails and the nine tails is inside Naruto. He's a walking nuclear bomb. Secondly, Sarutobi had already lost Orochimaru and was not confident that he could raise Naruto any better. Lastly, for political reasons, Sarutobi really couldn't afford to be seen favoring Naruto, the nine tails jinchuriki. Danzo and others would have used it against him to depose him and seize power. As for why Naruto wasn't told about his parents; imagine growing up and finding out your parents died to save the village and in doing so they turned you into a living weapon that would be hated by everyone who lost someone to the nine tails during the attack. You'd be making another Orochimaru, Kabuto, or (from the villagers' perspective) Itachi. Sarutobi did the best he could, imo.

Jack, I love your wholesomeness in liking most characters, including Pa. McKay and Brig; I enjoyed watching Naruto with you two and seeing your reactions for the first time, even though you two have watched the show independently. I would love to hear your opinions more about what you felt on your first watch. My favorite parts from these episodes were Naruto and Minato meeting and how Naruto punched him lol, Shikaku believing in Naruto due to Shikamaru, getting to see Nagato's origin and learning a bit about Yahiko and Konan, Kakashi interacting with his father and letting him know he doesn't resent him, and how Kakashi was finally there for Naruto to catch him. It made it even better when Cannon wanted to see Kakashi and Naruto. We all agree that Pain is one of the best villains; Danzo is a rat, and the Leaf village is full of hypocrites. Thank you, Geks, for an incredible reaction, and onto the next arc now.

I can’t remember if it was any good or not since I watched it only once a long time ago but I think you would enjoy the concept of it.

His pen is absolutely on fire when he is writing all this and he just keeps delivering going forward. The anime team might falter after this arc and become lazy, but the writing is elite. I wouldn't even be mad if someone's job was to skip unnecessary flashback filler from upcoming episodes, it wasn't in the manga, but the pacing becomes impacted

But Naruto is the one who sees the truth in both worlds, the fictional world of Naruto and also the real world: the true “villain” is no one in human shape or form. It’s a cycle of agony, sadness, and hatred. Dragon ball villains want power. One piece villains want treasure. Naruto Shippuden villains want peace 💔. That’s why Naruto’s villains are the best: they aren’t really villains.

I just think anyone who wants to really understand the philosophical aspect of Pain should read this: Izanagi is the will to decide, but it often becomes the lies we tell ourselves. Izanami is the truth of our nature, but often becomes the cycle of mistakes we repeat in our lives until we can be honest with ourselves. It’s human psychology. It’s also the Internalization of Shinto. Kishimoto has a knack for giving important life lessons in his writing. Naruto vs Pain is the most obvious example. Applying this to real life: if you’re inflexible, drop down and do yoga right now—the PAIN will tell you to give up, but if it’s really important to you and you’re strong like Naruto, you tell the pain to “give up on me giving up.” Continuing with this example, in yoga (the origin of chakras), you do not try to kill the pain. Rather, the tensions in your body are typically a result of psychosomatic stresses, so you try to understand the origin of the pain and relieve it (like Naruto listening to Pain’s story). Naruto vs Pain is a general philosophy for dealing with pain. Another note about Naruto and Pain, and Izanagi/Izanami: Naruto’s application of Izanagi (the will to Decide) was NOT in conflict with his Izanami (inner truth, nature), because he was not trying to change the past (like an Uchiha). Instead, the story of Naruto creates (the story of a hero), uses the will to be true to himself in the NOW, and the resolve to always continue to do so throughout the future. This is how he broke the CYCLE OF PAIN (an Izanami), and kept his will to Decide (Izanagi). This is how Naruto’s eyes work. They are the best eyes in the series, so do not waste your time on the Sharingan.
