Always love watching the banquet of kings. Rider didn’t hold back on saber at all lol

Maybe I'm just getting ragebaited, but that's not what he was saying. He was saying that a King should lead by example in order to inspire his subjects to greatness by being a larger than life character that is true to himself and doesn't compromise himself for his people. Fate's version of Iskander is a man of the people, which is examplified by his noble phantasm being all his former subjects who have become heroic spirits/servants in their own right, but still are loyal to him and aspire to be like him.

tl;dr if they ever namedrop a servant that you've never heard of before, you might wanna do a quick wikipedia/youtube check for context. Not every servant gets a full backstory in the anime, and even for the ones where the backstory is shown in the series, they often only show a few flashes that will not make sense fully if you aren't familiar with their myths/history. Diarmuid/lancers backstory from a few episodes ago is a good example. We only saw flashes of it, followed by him stating "What I seek in this life is the loyalty denied me in my last life". However unless you're familiar with Irish folklore/myth you probably missed the context and might not understand his motivations. Fate does this very frequently, where they kind of assume that you know who these characters are in real life, but then also sometimes give their story a twist, such as King Arthur being a woman. Gilles de Rais/caster for example is another character that many europeans might have heard of before since he was a warhero of the 100 year war and a well known companion in arms of Jeanne D'arc. However what really made him famous, is that he is often called histories first serial killer(obviously he wasn't the actual first, but one of the earliest high profile ones with a well documented trial). He was put on trial and found guilty of killing an estimate of over 140 children in less than a decade. Tbh, I was kinda surprised at first when nobody on the couch recognized his name, or when you didn't get the bluebeard reference, but then I realized that the 100 year war most likely isn't taught in depth outside of the EU, nor is the story of bluebeard. Most of this is never fully explained in the series, instead we just constantly hear him raving about Jeanne and are not given a lot of context. In case you didn't know, Jeanne was a woman who dressed as a man in order to fight for her country, but was condemned as a heretic for this and burned by the church. It wasn't until after the French revolution that she was revered as a martyr for her people. With that context, and the context of Arthur's myth with Arthur secretly being a woman, it should also make more sense why he sees Saber as Jeanne.

I love how a charismatic character can make you believe anything. Iskander basically says he's an dictator and will give into to any base desire and people are like "I agree with that".

Kwisatz

Riders noble phantasm is literally the friends he made along the way 🥺🥺🤧

Mitosdomain

In short, the three ideologies presented during the banquet of kings episode: Saber - exists to protect the people; sacrificing her humanity to fulfill an unattainable ideal. Rider - stands with the people and embodies their greatest most selfish desires. Has grand dreams but will not regret failure. Archer - stands above the people. He did not participate because it would be beneath him to argue over these petty topics when he fully believes he is already the sole ruler.

Two things, first that isn't even the right reason and second they go more into depth about this in season two so why bother even commenting it. It ruins the experience not just for the Geks since they haven't even gotten to that point yet but to anyone that reads the comments.

Yep, Alexander the Great is notoriously the GOAT. Probably the most popular. Genghis Khan, Napoleon Bonaparte, Cyrus, Attila, and Julius Ceasar are all runner ups. Some even discount Alexander the Great as Great because he inherited his father's army and claim he didn't have to work for it. How wrong they were. However, Alexander proved very early on how innovative he can be. The siege of Tyre alone proves his brilliance. Anyway, I can fangirl all day about him, so I'll stop.

When Bucephalus, his mighty horse appeared, I cheered!

One of my favorite episodes! Rider is just so cool! and just knowing that he's based on Alexander the Great just enhances his greatness for me!

Rider was already my favorite before this but seeing his noble phantasm made me love him even more. Noble Phantasms are essentially a heroes legend brought to physical form and his greatest treasure is his armies he fought alongside with. It's also why he ridicules saber so much for trying to change her past so much. For him even though his empire collapsed he never regretted it because it was the outcome of what he and his armies fought for and to change something like that would be an insult to them as well.
