His life’s mission is to learn the truth which benefits humanity, the goals of both link up so no he’s not doing it purely selfishly. I just think Erwin is incredibly overrated and misunderstood. I didn't think it'd be that crazy to say Pyxis is more likeable Erwin has far more aspects of his personality/character to take issue with. Also, you would benefit greatly if you learned to not randomly insult people with different opinions than your own. Honestly, I don't care to take the time to fully address your points; it'd take too long, especially since you misinterpreted several of them. I'll just say that I don't think he's heartless or a coward. He puts his own life on the line, but that doesn't change my main issue, which is that he doesn't value life as much as I feel he should. Not only this, but he's not actually doing it for the sake of humanity. I'm not saying I don't understand his methods, just that I disagree with them. Stohess is the primary example for me, as that's something Pyxis would never do, at least in my eyes. It may be idealistic, but there is no justification for intentionally harming/killing civilians in war (especially in a huge gamble), at least in such large amounts. I won't say I don't respect or admire aspects of his character in any way; I could never be a commander in a military conflict, because I just wouldn't be able to send other people to their likely deaths. However, once he intentionally involved civilians, I lost a lot of respect for him. I do have alternative ideas of what he could have done here, but they'd still be gambles, but ones that don't kill civilians.

The OVA thing was simply me making a joke about how you are so desperate for them to watch the OVA's and because they are not watching them you throw your toys out of the pram and make a hot take you know you will get flamed for. 1. yes exactly, having a drink with pyxis would be more fun than having a social interaction with Erwin, we are in agreement there. 2. this is completely false. The show makes it clear through character conversations that the entire military respects Erwin for his achievements as a commander, not just the scouts. The Military police see him as a threat because of his actions. Erwin came up with the smoke shell device and sysytem which has greatly reduced casualties (goes against your "reckless killing" opinion). This all without the need for Erens titan abilities. Now that Eren is in the picture of course its a trump card he is going to use. In Keiths backstory he made it clear that previous commanders didnt have the same success or motivation necessary to push further and even Keith failed because while he had the necessary motivation he also just wasnt cut out for it which he admits. Everyone in the scouts knows that if they decide to join they are most likely going to die at some point. The very decision to join the scouts means they are willing to die if ordered to. As I said above, Erwins actions and motivations also align with humanitys as a whole so if sacrificing soldiers for the greater good is necessary then so be it. Can you really call erwin morally questionable if he acts honestly and fairly to all soldiers by telling them the brutal truth of their decision to join the scouts? He doesnt lie to his soldiers. Yes Pyxis succeeded in using Erens abilities in Trost, I never said he didnt. Im saying that Erwin is the guy who would find the best possible path forward while using erens abilities. I dont see PYxis in the long run being able to do that. 3. Pyxis literally guilt tripped soldiers into staying at the battle of Trost who were going to leave, he knew what he was doing with the words he used. You seem to be justifying Pyxis actions while shitting on Erwin for similar actions. Again, while Erwins motivations are selfish to an extent his motivations and actions are in line with the goals of humanity i previosuly stated. Where does Erwin "manipulate" soldiers into dying? Sure he is willing to sacrifice soldiers for the greater good but like I said he doesnt lie to them when they join the scouts, they know what to expect and he even says "could you die if you were ordered to", if someone decides to stay at that point its really on them. The guy does not lie to his soldiers, he makes it clear from the moment they join the scouts what i expected of them. Erwins initial plan with Annie in Stohess was to get her underground where they could restrain her, if that failed he had to come up with a plan B and C which he did. the plan failed because annie caught on to them. Erwins plan if it has worked would have not resulted in death, his intention at first was to have no civilian casualties. Again, when the civilians die Erwin doesn't lie to Nile, he admits that this happened because of his plan, he doesn't shy away from accepting responsibility. Erwin withheld information because he didn't know who he could trust out of the soldiers who joined in the last 5 years... did you not pay attention to that part? If success is gained from a mission than people did not die unnecessarily, they succeeded in capturing Annie which was a major victory that proves it was all worth it, if they never caught Annie and she got away forever than yes it would have all been for nothing. Those soldiers who died would be proud to die for the greater good. Maybe you have a different mentality surrounding self sacrifice than other people. How are you saying that these expeditions never amounted to anything??? All commanders previously used tax payer money etc and as keith states, those missions never amount to anything. Erwin is the most successful commander in history and these missions that he does amount to victory (not all the time), they succeed in figuring out who the female titan is and almost capture her, if she didn't have hardening ability they would have succeeded. Also in the OVA which you lve so much, Ilses notebook is found due to one of Erwins expeditions which amounts to them leanring more about titans and Hange convincing Erwin to let her capture and experiment on titans again, this leads to further understanding about titans which in the long run is valuable information. This disproves your point on these missions never amount to anything. I understand the purpose of Isayamas writing of Erwin however I liek to look deeper than simply calling him a selfish character who doesnt have any care for soldiers or other lives when this is clearly proven to be wrong. 4. Why would scout soldiers join the regiment if they didnt believe in Erwin or the regiment, where does that belief in Erwin come from? It comes from his previous successes which you seem to skip over by saying "these expeditions etc never amount to anything". I never said anything about it being true or not, I simply said that they have belief in him to push humanity forward to a greater good, if they didnt they wouldnt have joined the regiment. Well obviously the scouts are the smallest regiment given they are the ones risking their lives to save humanity, death comes with the job they chose to sign up for. what is this comment meant to prove? 5. Yes they are subjective view points, I proved my subjective viewpoint and you provided yours. What are these other options you speak of though? Care to ponder a few better options? if Violent intervention occurred (which it didnt so we will never know) I believe that Erwin and Pyxis would have been able to work together to get the issue sorted. Its also crucial that the scouts save Eren from Rod in the meantime to ensure there is no memory erasure 6. Curious why point 6 is the one you had the least response to and completely ignored my points about Erwin sacrificing his arm and saying he can be replaced which goes against your "erwin is selfish" argument, funny that. I wouldnt call it an assumption. Keith states that previous commanders failed because they didnt see big picture and didnt have the motivation to push humanity forward. Keith may have succeeded with Erens titan abilities but likely he would have overused him out of desperation which he states that he had gotten too obsessed over his goal. Erwin is far more level headed which is obvious and he has so far been able to succeed in 4 missions with Erens titan powers, capturing Annie, escaping from Reiner and Bertholdt, escaping Rods chapel and defeating Rod. You amount my point to Erwin simply being "all knowing" which is disingenuous as I proved multipe times in my comments why Erwin would succeed compared to others and not once did I come across as Erwin is simply "all knowing", that is both an insult to my points and to the writing of Isayama. 7. Erwin is willing to sacrifice his soldiers which according to you means he doesnt value them... Well this is clearly proven false in ep 14 and 16 where he has intense guilt about his sacrificing of soldiers, he is not heartless like you seem to be thinking he is. You have very clearly painted Erwin with one brush rather than look at him deeper than you believe he is. I cant think of any real world examples off the top of my head. If you want to suggest some individuals then maybe we could discuss those. 8. I dont care about the meat and omelette OVA and judging by many other people in here including the geks it looks like they dont care either

Apart from the last question that I listed as a joke (purely because it relates to Pyxis), literally nothing I said has anything to do with the OVAs lol. To address your points: 1. Yes, but I hate beer, so maybe wine or something lol. The main point of my take revolved around me finding a kind old drunkard more likeable than whatever you want to consider Erwin as. With the ratio I received, I felt I had to elaborate further on my problems with Erwin lol. 2. Eren is the only reason Erwin has been able to show any semblance of success while other commanders before him failed. Shadis did not have a titan-shifter on his side. Pyxis succeeded in closing a gap in the wall (without the help of the Scouts) while having even less of an understanding of Eren's abilities. It doesn't matter how successful Erwin is when his motivations are selfish and his methods are morally questionable. This is an argument about likeability, not justification, even though both are subjective. If the Military Police were to stage a similar reckless mission within an urban sector like Erwin had, people would be mad at them. 3. While Pyxis may feel the sacrifices are worth it, he understands that people should have a choice and doesn't expect them to get themselves killed for something they don't feel is worth dying for. Pyxis also doesn't have selfish motivations or risk civilians like Erwin does. Erwin EXPECTS his soldiers to recklessly get themselves killed to fulfill the mission. It's not admirable to manipulate others into getting themselves and others killed for your selfish desires, regardless of whether or not you want to argue that these desires align with preserving humanity. Erwin wanted Annie to be taken alive so that they could learn from her, but he chose to gamble with the lives of civilians and unprepared soldiers within a densely populated urban sector. Erwin was willing to withhold information from even his own troops, causing many of them to die unnecessarily, all for the sake of the mission. He led expeditions outside the wall, which used resources and taxpayer money, cost the lives of many soldiers, and never amounted to anything. Erwin's actions are supposed to be very morally questionable, but this flies straight over a ton of AoT fans' heads, who just seem to view his actions as unquestionably necessary and justifiable. 4. So because many of the Scouts feel that way about Erwin, that means it's true? And as you said yourself, most of the people who join the Scout Regiment do so because they already believe in Erwin or the regiment. Keep in mind that the Scout Regiment is the smallest regiment by far. 5. Determining whether or not the sacrifices are necessary is completely subjective. As with the real world, there are often other options. You mention the coup not costing lives unnecessarily; this is a fair point, but violent intervention likely would've led to division, among both the military regiments and the civilian population. This would have prevented him from being able to focus on his mission of "learning the truth." 6. Here is another assumption that others would have failed because Erwin the all-knowing is simply better than them. Pyxis is the only other commander as of now to have utilized Eren's abilities, and he succeeded. 7. They align only to a certain extent. Learning "the truth" requires his missions to succeed, but it doesn't usually require him to value the lives of his soldiers, and certainly not those of civilians. I'm not saying Erwin is evil, but his priorities and methods just make him less likable to me than Pyxis, who is a more charismatic character imo as well. If you were to look at real-world parallels to Erwin, who would first come to your mind? What about Pyxis? 8. False lol.

Rod is the first-born son yet wasn't chosen to inherit the Founding Titan, yet his children inherit it from Uri (though we don't know if this is just because Rod had kids while Uri didn't). The most sensible reason for this is that his father could tell using his Founding power that Rod would turn into that thing instead of a regular pure titan, so he passed it to Uri instead. Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure he was able to transform by licking it because Kenny cut him when he stuck his blade in his mouth.

I really want to see what's in the basement. I think I get why his father took the founding Titan and then gave it to Eren, but with this show anything is possible. I hope his goal was to save humanity, but we'll see. I had a feeling Grisha was dead. That's got to be traumatizing knowing ypu devoured your own father. I'm excited for the next set of episodes

I would rather sit down and have a beer with Pyxis because yes he would be more fun socially 2. I’m watching a show about characters trying to kill titans and the show makes it clear that soldiers die every day in this battle. The death of soldiers is sometimes necessary for a greater purpose as Erwin has constantly proven (female titan, stohess etc) yes people dying is terrible but for commanders such as shadis and everyone before him they constantly failed and couldn’t progress humanity further. Erwin has brought humanity forward to this point where they finally have the chance to gain their freedom (as far as they know) 3. Did you forget Pyxis admitting that he sacrificed soldiers in trost for the greater good? I don’t see you mentioning that at all. 4. The show makes it clear from all scout soldiers that they see Erwin as the guy who “sees something greater” and that is why they believe in him and choose to follow him. 5. None of the sacrifices are unnecessary as long as progress is being made which is exactly what is happening under Erwin’s leadership. He also just managed to achieve a bloodless coup de tat in one episode which was his goal, this also shows that he can think of plans outside of sacrificing soldiers. 6. Erens titan abilities are also a big game changer in the progress that humanity is making. This type of trump card requires the most careful of plans on how to use this trump card. Previous commanders would have failed with erens powers because they wouldn’t be able to figure out how to utilise his skills to save humanity, Erwin has proven he can do this. When eren was kidnapped by Reiner etc Erwin sacrificed his arm for erens survival and for his soldiers. He even said that he can be replaced and that they need to save eren. People always forget this when they try and shit on Erwin as some selfish guy. 7. Erwin’s goals align with the goals of humanity (kill the titans, learn the truth). So your point about historical figures fighting for a goal that goes against other people doesn’t correlate as Erwin is on the same team as the people he is both killing and trying to save. 8. Nobody gives a shit about Sasha’s meat or jeans omelette

If you want a clear historical example, I'd say that the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were obviously not necessary for a Japanese surrender. I'll first make it clear and say that I may like Erwin more as a character, but I don't like him as much as a person. Erwin makes unnecessary sacrifices to achieve his personal goals while devaluing the lives of soldiers and unaffiliated civilians. Assuming his actions didn't already kill me, if I were a soldier under his command, I wouldn't be motivated to follow him; if I were a civilian in Stohess, I'd despise him. His speeches and his "aura" are mostly tools he uses to manipulate people, and they don't factor as much into how likable he is for me. Pyxis has more grounded expectations of people and places a higher value on their lives than Erwin, which is a huge factor in determining likeability for me. His concern over the fate of humanity seems more genuine as well, even if he isn't the tactician that Erwin is. MOST IMPORTANTLY, Pyxis is a funny drunkard who also happens to be bald and sporting a magnificent mustache. I'll take the funny old drunk that genuinely cares about people over the potential sociopath who gets countless people killed in futile expeditions/gambles before the "fate of humanity" is even at stake. I know it's "just a show," but I compare aspects of AoT to our world a lot. Many of the worst atrocities in history (and those that are currently ongoing), regardless of intention, have been caused by people pursuing some greater goal while simultaneously devaluing the lives of some other group. This isn't even exclusive to people, as human action has caused the extinction of hundreds (if not thousands) of other species and decimated the populations of other extant species even more. Okay, this has become a classic SauceGuy rant, and while I could go on forever, it's 4:00 AM, and I'm tired. Important questions to consider ☝️🤓: - To Erwin, the ends justify the means, but to what "end" is he striving for? - Do Erwin's priorities matter if they're benefitting humanity, and where do you draw the line? - Would Erwin have favored Jean's omelette or Sasha's cooked meat?

They both make the same shot across the bow right at Erwin’s character and both times he doesn’t even pretend to deny it. We don’t know what motivates Erwin yet but we know that everything he does, every soldier and civilian he sacrifices, isn’t actually for the benefit of humanity, he’s making these ruthless gambles based on his own selfish motivations
