.One. .Piece. .Skypiea. 14 (Ep. 177-179)

Welcome to the most random intro ever

Comments

Sometimes you’re tricked into thinking that Nami is the only one with any common sense just because she’s got brains. And then she goes and does the exact same thing as she’s been chewing Luffy out for doing, giving the snake the possibly worst stomach problems so far, lol. I love that. The flying slashes is basically displaced air, and I think that the effects are figurative and not really meant to be seen. And I think it’s probably inspired by ”kamaitachi”, the slashing wind yokai from Japanese myth. I love Skypiea, but it’s not one of my top arcs either. But it’s fun and has some great moments, and I always enjoy rereading or rewatching it!

desolate leng

Thanks! I'm gushing over Enel. He can flob his earlobes at me.

jrnoodles

As far as new abilities popping up, One Piece doesn’t really do training arcs. You just gotta assume that they are always training as they’re sailing and learning as they’re fighting.

Michael H

I think the arc is paced just fine in the manga.

Dale Cooper

thank god this is episode 100s not 1000

Saint

I just liken zoro air slashes to Temari wind fan

KrispyKenny

Why on earth would they change it? One Pace hate is getting crazy lmaoo

ahmad

Having rewatched the arc myself only a few months ago, I think they did use that goofy doorbell sound for this scene lol

Matt Haloostock

This arc is definitely good but the one pace really helps the pacing out. In the original you get like twice as much Satori, and a lot more scenes of other characters you don't even care about. The pacing has killed this show for some people (my cousin for example), and I think the comments were mainly trying to prepare you guys for the worst. Idk if this comment will clear things up for you guys but Zoro's new ability is a flying slash, which he figured out how to do during this arc. We didn't explicitly see him learn it but its not far fetched that he figured it out since we've seen other characters do similar feats already. For instance, when Mihawk cut entirely through Don Krieg's massive ship and when Mr. 1 was slicing the buildings into chucks while fighting Zoro, even stuff he didn't have direct contact with. Even though its not directly said, most likely they were using a flying slash as well, and that its not a technique only they can use. Zoro has most likely picked up this ability through his experiences having fought them both directly. His techniques and understanding of sword play has grown considerably from when we first me him.

Matt Haloostock

To be fair mr.1 was doing it like crazy in their fight, he just didnt visualize the technique until he had it from zoros perspective

Benjamin Knock

It was always peak. If anything it cut away the peak zoro impression

Benjamin Knock

Fr, thank Jack for this one

Can’t touch this Stone

One Pace actually turned Sleepya into Skypeak, love it

adabooo

One piece is about the journey. It’s fine

Sandi uchiha

Yeah, but not as peak as other sagas

Neant

W

Zipzzty

This arc gets real emotional though

Mahti

you can't expect people to remember every little detail in a thousand episode anime

SirCatelot

The beauty of Zoro's Phoenix Cannon is that it doesn't need to be explained. Oda already showed us that slashing through the air was possible way back in Baratie, when Mihawk slashed Krieg's ship. The more you pay attention to the little details the more you realize Oda's telling you a lot more than you're picking up.

Pepperoni Pony .

I love what Carter says at the beginning of the discussion. He knows there are no consequences. He knows all of the crew will live. Kay taking it a step further always joking about no one dying. Just big moves happening for dramatic effect. You don't need death to have a good anime, but apparently you need a bunch of fake outs implying it over and over again.

JayCnY

36:15 carters point here is pretty true SPOILER WARNING especially for events that happen in sabaody

kuza

One Piece (and to some extend Naruto) kinda showed me that a story can be really interesting even tho i have this sense of security, caused by a show this long just because the world of this show has so many moving parts yknow? This crazy god rapper guy wants to drop a whole island into the sea? How would this world respond to that? What would this mean for the marines, world goverment, the skypeople. Every arc (with some exceptions lmao) adds to the world to such a large degree that personally im here for the characters navigating me through this world, not so much the plot of like losing a certain person of said world. This is me rambling at 8am my time so apologies for that.

KayanoLIVE

In case there is any confusion. Zoro has trained to be so physically strong that he swings his swords so hard that he creates air vacuums which form the air slices. Aka, swing sword so hard the cut travels

BH

You guys see Zoro training and lifting weights so its fair to assume a lot of the moves he uses are of his own invention which I think it freaking awesome since his goal is to be the world's best swordsman. These moves are the result of that.

Daveeed

Baratie and Drum are better than Alabasta and Arlong Park for me, by a little

Nanashi

We can only go so fast bruh

Studio Geck

Great discussion. I'm sooooo happy the majority are ranking Skypiea so high, but I will say that I had the same sentiment as Carter during my first watch of the series. Even with One Pace, Skypiea still has some pacing issues and it also feels detached from the rest of the series. Carter's opinion is about how I felt about the arc on my my first watch

Rhettoric

😭😭

julia

Ppl call this arc bad when u compare it to the peak that’s to come and pacing issues. This arcs main highlight is just lore

Trznk

They will know peak in the next saga

Trznk

It’s also just not the purpose of this arc to be emotional, its to lay foundations

Trznk

Wish they would do more episodes, could of nearly finished the arc by now

Trznk

Agreed

Trznk

We need one more one pace episode. This feels sooo short. I’m fiending for more

Enma

I felt the exact same way as carter when i first watched skypiea, the feeling of it being a "side quest" that was so far away from our progress to the one piece, the straw hats bounties and notoriety etc. made me so uninterested. obviously on hindsight theres some gems in this arc for the greater story but just wanted to say that criticism is so valid. Based on that i think the rest of this year's one piece reacts are going to be juicy af for the couch

Niko

The "real" Blackbeard is Edward Teach. In One Piece Blackbeard is Marshall D. Teach, and Whitebeard is Edward Newgate.

Nick K

i need longer one piece episodes 😞🙏🏼

Jasmin☆

I agree with Carter and Jack complemented right on point that this arc is not the best of story or emotion. It’s still good especially the ending wraps very well, but not to a level that it’s peak or phenomenal and I also remember I felt it’s disconnected when watching it especially after 151 I was expecting the following story would be more related to Blackbeard or Whitebeard. Btw I’m rewatching the latest EH arc last week ngl it feels like two different shows 😂 Not bcs of the animation but the story complexity, number of characters involved, mysteries, lore, hypes… man it’s just getting better and better and better.

Neant

I feel like because Enel is just a power threaten guy that he isn't my favorite cleary just a guy with a god complex smh... luffy gonna hate him

EmlovesOP

hope they see this comment

Dylan Roy

robin just having a chat with enel is insane lmao

sil

funny one piece might get some skins in Fortnite and the leakers are reliable

Amare D.

the rest of 🥚 boutta go crazy

Esther

We are finally getting one piece at a later time crazy shit about to get real

EmlovesOP

Eneru is just way too iconic.

El

Bro what is Brig doing with the butter knife?

Wyvern

Enel perception feats are actually unreal

Matthew Valentine

the anime does censor some stuff compared to the manga. for example, nami's mom was shot in the head in the manga and not the chest. i guess it's because the show used to air early mornings in japan, so they wanted to make it a lil more family friendly.

Esther

Yeah, I agree with you. Like I said, Skypiea is not a bad arc; rather, the arcs that follow it lead Skypiea to fade into the background for me.

Toska Water

in 2030

cozo

For me Skypiea is the third best arc so far after Alabasta and Arlong park, it really gets a bad rep mainly for the pacing, otherwise it's really good. We haven't even gotten to the good parts yet so It's kinda surprising they already rate it so high.

Mahti

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Zipzzty

I didn't know Enel and Erwin had the same VA. He definitely has a type

Kwisatz

Remember skypiea is top 5 lmao.

Touchmi

5:58 o hi zaddy

Fatipapi

Did One Pace change the sound of the bell?

Touchmi

Zoro's new skill basically came from learning how to defeat Mr 1. The whole lesson behind cutting nothing. Which now allows him to cut anything including air, which gives him ranged attacks. The straw hats power ups will mostly come from fighting a foe that stronger than them and needing to adapt.

Touchmi

Fotnite is the only game that competes with the one game that made gaming main stream, and thats world of warcraft.

Touchmi

OH I SEEEE! Thats cool!!💕💕 My bad!!😭

Veronia

I think you’re referring to when Cannon asked about Edward Teach, we had just watched Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and Blackbeards name in that movie is Edward Teach, so I told him that it was Marshall!

Jackson Carter

Skypiea is not in my top 10 arcs, but there are some parts that I loved especially toward the end

Ari

The fact that they’re enjoying one of the most criticised arcs in the series makes me think that they’re going to love a lot of the series.

Marcus

That feeling of knowing characters are "safe" because of the amount of episodes is common. I love these early arcs but I gotta say that Oda really steps up his writing from the next few arcs onwards and that can really make the feeling fade away.

ahmad

W

Qhoa

Yea I think the anime just didn’t portray it in the best way where u could really tell it was a long range attack.

Mitch

Skypiea is a Top 10 arc imo, glad you’re enjoying it so far, we haven’t reached its peak yet. During my first watch, it was my favourite arc up until this point.

Marcus

Pacing is a fair criticism but it’s not enough to make the arc bad, it’s a wild take tbh.

Marcus

Personally this arc is definitely on the lower end of OP arcs. My 2 biggest issues are the pacing and how it ends. Don’t really agree with how things were resolved but thats just me.

Jimmy

It did look like he projected it, that’s how I remember it anyway

Marcus

People that say this arc is bad is cause of the pacing nothing else most of the time

Zipzzty

in the fight with mr 1 he kind of awakened that voice of all things technique which most likely lead to his new power up here

Blake

regarding the slash-beam attack, in the original anime Zoro says he wants to learn a long range sword attack and you see him practice it on a warrior monk goat guy before he hits it against Brannem or whatever the gun guys name was, I’m kinda surprised it wasn’t in One Pace

Forth Wanderer

the problem with it there is it doesnt even look like he projected the attack, he just kinda does it a little before bram gets to him and theyre in melee range when hes sliced.

Benjamin Knock

It's interesting that it may be your second favorite. Sky Island remains low on my list because it was low for me for many years prior to the latest lore drop. Sky Island is not a bad arc; it just didn't leave that much of an impression on me as the other arcs do.

Toska Water

When’s All of us are dead dropping ?

tb brook

“He got that dawgg in em” 😂😂

Fatipapi

I’m glad you guys are vibing with Skypeia, there’s so much peak to come. But it’s an important arc overall

Super Novice

Love the reaction! Just a correction in the names- white beard’s name is Edward Newgate, and blacks beard’s is Marshall D. Teach💕💕 can’t wait till next reaction!

Veronia

Zoro learnt the 36 pound phoenix right when he first ever showed us it, during the fight against that duel gun wielding Shandian. Zoro gave us a small monologue of figuring out how it works. He was just pushed to the brink and figured it out for survival in that moment. It was introduced faster than the average shonen move but it was there. And It’s like Jack said, flying slashes,

Marcus

Great video, thanks Geks! And congarts to all one piece anime fans, this weekend our PEAK returns. Can't believe we almost made it through the 6 months break

Dasha

I completely agree about Crocodile and Enel. Both awesome villains. I enjoy how Oda wrote back to back villains with very different motives/devices yet both still being scary and compelling in their own ways instead of a reskinned enemy w different powers.

Goatcheezey

Something I always tell people who want to watch One Piece is to just enjoy the journey and not think about the end. It's a strange phenomenon that only really seems to apply to one piece where everyone is so fixated on it's length and getting to the end that they just want to get through arcs. And while I can agree that the idea of catching up is exciting, as someone who is is fully caught up, I really do miss these old arcs. Rewatching it with you guys at a slower pace has really allowed me to enjoy the content as is without worrying about how many episodes there are.

Keanu Cullen

They’d have to wait till after the next 3 arcs since the live action spoils a pretty big reveal

Michael H

In reality its probably just oda allowing himself to do more ranged attacks with one piece. And one piece in general having superhuman strenght and durability compared to the real world. Oda is very inspired by Dragon Ball in that regard

sesaka

It’s hard to say because Enel has such a high offensive power but I wonder which of the warlords could beat Enel. I think Enel > Crocodile. I wonder about the rest.

Keiji

The air slices are basically zoro slicing the air with such force (the force he mentions in the moves) that it can basically be understood as creating a wave in the air that slices whatever it hits. Its a general ability among swordsmanship in one piece.

sesaka

are you gonna watch One Piece Live action? It's really good and they didn’t censure it as much as the anime

Esme Flores

Prime Fortnite will always be the GOAT for me. Staying up till 3 am with the boys and getting that first Dub will be something I never forget 😭😭😭

Jimmy

Guys, you can watch it live once you catch up as one piece is still ongoing!!! The anime will return in 5days!!

julia

Enel for next strawhat. He can be the musician.

Keiji

please tell me you still have the files for 150-151 and that you’re going to reupload them eventually🤞

Seda

Wyper was annoying up until this point but he was a huge G during the Laki moment. A pretty great scene, emotional.

Marcus

Ngl, It was a good call. It’s more obvious in hindsight but I didn’t it expect during my first time.

Marcus

Don’t worry Brig, I don’t think you were spoiled. You just occasionally look at your manga volume like all good fans do😁

Marcus

There’s no better timing

Marcus

Peak piece, One peak, Goat piece.

Mauricio

Brig robbed me of my one piece intro 😡

Marcus
