*SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3 Pt 1* . . . . . The answer to this is in chapter 65 of the manga and wasn’t adapted into the anime. The order to kill Rod’s illegitimate offspring came from the interior council and was an effort to “cleanse the royal house” remember they deify the Reiss family and see bastard offshoots as a disgrace to their religion. Rod was there that night only as a coincidence, he went to visit Historia after his “pureblooded” family died. Rod hid and lied about the fact that his family was dead from the council so that the Reiss family wouldn’t lose their influence and only admitted it to them after Trost, ergo the council didn’t know when they ordered Historia killed that they were attempting to kill the last member of the royal bloodline

The historia mum thing is simply the fact that historia was illegitimate child and was therefore forced to be a secret, this was the same for her mother so she had was forced to live a quiet life forever and regretted having historia. If anyone ever found out about historia existence (which they did) then historia and her mother would have to be silenced so she was always living with that fear and hated historia because of it

She's fine when she's not obsessing over food. She's like the Zenitsu of the show, despite Connie having Zenitsu's VA. Mikasa is similar in that she focuses too much on a single thing and we don't see other aspects of her character very often. It's odd though how Mikasa is much more disliked than Sasha, considering this.

Great episodes and reactions! I love Hange. She's such a great character. Lord Reiss's family dying is definitely sus. Something is going on there. In regard to Historia's mom i feel like maybe she has some mental illness or had postpartum that never got resolved. It could also be that there is something in the Reiss genes that scares her as well. The Eren scene at the end was confusing. Is he dreaming? He's in some kind of ice land. I also was curious about the girl brushing her hair. It kind of looked like Lord Reiss's daughter. I'm excited for the next set of episodes.

Just a cool detail, but Sasha is shown to have excellent hearing, comparable to Miche's sense of smell. She is often the first to hear things that others can't and there are numerous examples of this. For example the beginning of season 2 when the titans appear inside the wall, Sasha is the first to hear them coming. When you notice it, she's always the first to hear people approaching, which happens in this episode.

Ikr. I remember when it first came to Netflix - just the first season. I had totally forgotten about it until 2021. I had just exposed my gf at the time to anime with FMAB and she loved it, and I was scrolling through Hulu looking for another anime to show her. I remembered the 1st season of AoT was great from years back. We caught up to the 2nd part of season 4 quickly and then had to wait 7 days for another 22 minutes. Ugh the agony. But yeah I've probably seen this show all the way through at least 10 times now... can't get enough.

The anime cut out the conversation Levi and Reeves had before reaching an agreement. Levi actually has social and some political skills. It also cut out the part where Kenny said to Reeves that Levi is his pride, a line which makes their relationship more complicated. The characterization and dialogues in the manga are better, but it was a slow paced arc so the anime cut out a lot of details.

For one the manga showed Erwin actaully had a bit of a romance with Niles wife but instead of pursuing that he put all his energy into joining the scouts and proving his father’s theory. It’s a short bit of characterization that I really with the anime would’ve kept.

I like what Cannon was saying in the end discussion about the mystery, I feel like one of the reasons AoT became a phenomenon was that in addition to the classic action anime elements, the mystery box was so tantalizing. Few things more fun in fiction than feeling like you can see the outline of things but you're still grasping for the full picture. These eps are far from my favorite but I remember still burning through them because I needed to know more.

This is for the Gek girls; some of your predictions are definitely funny, and you've missed some obvious things, but you're still doing better than Cannon and Carter did. Cannon and Carter still had a few crazy pulls though lol.

Yeah it's so dense and fastly paced, it almost feels like they want to move past the politics to get to the "good stuff" but they didn't want to cut anything out. There's a lot of whiplash, a lot of scenes that don't feel necessary (ie didn't really need to see the Scouts take that outpost and Levi beating that dude up, Marlo and Hitch stuff felt dragged out). Political intrigue generally works better as a slow burn type story which AoT has never really been.

It’s weird because the anime cut out about 30% of the manga material for this arc specifically. However, it was Isayama himself who requested the anime to do this because the arc in the manga wasn’t too popular so he thought it would be better to sort of rush past it. Personally I think that was the wrong decision because it’s also my least fav arc (in the anime) but I understand why he chose that.

This is the one section of AoT that I'm really lukewarm towards. It's sprinkled with great moments but the delivery and presentation feels so clunky. Things progress so quickly and characters declare too much what they're doing and how they're feeling without much subtlety. I was so disengaged when first watching this I almost dropped the show. That's why S3 P2 and S4 onwards is head and shoulders above this. It gets so so so much better
