Most people watching this weekly were angry at Sasuke, but at the same time it's 100% understandable as part of Madara's story to Sasuke was that while Itachi did everything he did for the leaf village he still put Sasuke above the village and loved him more than the village. Okay on the basis that you're correct, what are Sasuke's 2 original mangekyo abilities? His right eye as we know can manipulate amaterasu, so what's his left eye's ability? Or does he conveniently not have one.. If Itachi had permanently given Sasuke his amaterasu, then every time Sasuke used it, Itachi's eye would be seen activating. Or was that conveniently changed as well? The fact that Sasuke's OWN eye can use amaterasu means that his eye has the ability.

I think the reason he doesn’t start with genjutsu is because it consumes a lot of chakra and puts a heavy strain on his eyes. You can see this when he uses it on Bee, where he gets momentarily stunned due to the pain and fatigue it causes. So if possible, he tries to defeat his opponents first without relying on it since it has a negative effect on him. If that doesn't work only then he goes for it.

Okay I'll admit that murdering the entire village is perhaps a bit dramatic to say, but he still said in his words "destroy the leaf village" which in itself is a very drastic and edgy thing to pronounce as your goal. Also while Sasuke has this weird line he's seemingly drawn about not killing people when they fight, he also has no problem doing things to people that essentially send them to their deaths (capturing Killer Bee to steal the eight tails which should kill him). While it can be argued he hasn't really killed any other shinobi, I'd argue he did kill Deidara. He pushed him into self destructing but Deidara was only able to do that because he survived Sasuke's killing blows.

Completely agree with what you said but even the points you bring up that might make it seem unrealistic from the viewers perspective for this fight specifically are still very much realistic & have a reasonable explanation. For instance, in this fight Sasukes mangekyo enhanced genjutsu wouldn’t have worked on killer bee regardless. Furthermore, knowing the drawbacks & fatigue using the mangekyo uses - it makes complete sense that sasuke wouldn’t immediately use it unless he was pushed against the ropes - as we see, he activates it when that becomes the case - Of course the geks could drawback there strong analysis at times knowing that this an older style shonen with slower pacing but even the things they may not see as realistic are still usually explainable.

@Nick K, in this batch of episodes he literally states that killing the elders is his main objective - he said as of now nobody else in the leaf is Taka’s immediate concern - of course at this point I think it’s safe to say he will kill any shinobi who trys to interfere - but Sasuke’s intention is not to kill innocent civilians - so far in the show, we’ve seen he hasn’t killed a single shinobi, let alone an innocent bystander - he has even forbidden suigetsu & the others to kill on multiple occasions. We still don’t know how Sasuke truly intends to “destroy the hidden leaf” but from what we’ve seen from him as a character so far - it doesn’t allude to him massacring an entire village of innocent people

Calling Itachi's plan, a "last ditch effort", does not make it any less likely that he gave Amaterasu to Sasuke permanently. It would make sense that Sasuke's own mangekyou appears as he uses Amaterasu freely. If the similar occurrence you are referring to involves Naruto, then that would still not disprove my theory. As I've said, there is no confirmation regarding any of this, but given the multiple statements made by Tobi, and the fact that we know mangekyou abilities are unique to each individual user, it is most likely that Itachi permanently transferred his Amaterasu into Sasuke. Therefore, Sasuke's other abliity, which allows him to manipulate Amaterasu, we can assume developed as a reaction/adaptation to the Amaterasu already being his main ability. The only other possibility is that all mangekyou abilities are self-manifested based on the personality of the user, but with nothing being confirmed and instead taking everything at face value, my theory seems likely.

To be clear I'm not saying it's a problem that he's going against Itachi's wishes, but now he knows that Itachi had a clear reason for what he was doing, where as Sasuke's only reasoning is that he's pissed about what happened to Itachi so he's gonna destroy the village. He hated Itachi for his whole life for killing his whole clan for nothing but to "measure his vessel" and now that he knows Itachi had a deeper reasoning behind it, he basically says he's going to recreate the senseless murder version of Itachi. He called himself an avenger before when it came to killing Itachi, and now he's an avenger again but for Itachi's sake. He's just as vengeful and broken as before but just changed the target of his hate. This is of course all based on what we know at this point, but obviously it's not fair to hindsight things that no one could know at this point in the show. So as of the current info, Sasuke comes off as very shallow and edgy still.

I agree with Cannon 100% that Sasuke wanting to destroy the leaf makes no sense. If he said "I'm going to force the three elders of the leaf who know about Itachi to clear his name and then kill them" it would make way more sense, but him wanting to go kill a village of innocent people because of the decision of a few old people makes no sense. Itachi killed his clan to avert a war that would destroy the entire village, Sasuke is saying he's gonna destroy the whole village cause he's angy. I think another problem with it is how genjutsu works, I'm not too familiar with Naruto tbh, I watched it when I was like 13 during summer so I kinda mindlessly binged, but there doesn't seem to be any real conditions for throwing a dude into an uber powerful genjutsu if you have one, whereas a lot of more modern shows usually have at least a bit more "justification," I suppose, for not using strong techniques right off rip. Chainsaw Man is, in my opinion, really good at this, apart from maybe Katana Man, most characters really don't have an ability they don't use as soon as it's really effective.

You have the all the right points but somehow came to the wrong conclusion. As Madara stated, Itachi implanted amaterasu into Sasuke as a failsafe to activate when Sasuke looks into Madara's sharingan. You even mentioned the fact that in that scenario we SPECIFICALLY see Itachi's eye in Sasuke. Whereas in this Killer Bee fight, Sasuke is using his OWN mangekyo, his own ability. Why would Itachi's plan be named a "last-ditch effort", if he somehow permanently gave Sasuke amaterasu which is not supported whatsoever. There is a similar occurence that happens later in the series which is also a one time thing...

there is nothing I love more than how analytical and practical the guys can be with stuff in anime/tv shows like attack on titan / dark... however, sometimes while watching a show like naruto I feel they struggle to turn it off - analyzing every little plot hole / intricacy within Naruto's style and pacing of fights. Asking why Sasuke doesn't just "Genjutsu him already" referring to the Killer Bee fight. In Naruto no character uses their "trump card" or "OP ability" on a whim off rip. This is actually a trend across all characters in all animes, but in an old gen show like Naruto you simply notice it more because of how slow paced and methodical the fights are rather than just being flashy animation and colorful explosions non stop. If you analyze any fights in almost all power/ability fighting animes (JJK, HxH, Black Clover, OPM, chainsaw, etc.) - delaying powerful abilities and sometimes doing unrealistic things like talking mid fight or not using certain abilities at the right moments is common across all shows. The reason its criticized the most in Naruto/Bleach is just because of the old gen weekly cable release style of anime fights - slow and almost surreal. Not meant to always reflect reality and "put on a show". Afterall, were watching a show - if Sasuke walked up to Killer Bee, instantly max genjutsu'd him or whatever, and just won.... thatd be boring! If you think about all old style animes like bleach/naruto it doesnt really make sense at all to begin with. sometimes there will be 3 minutes of dialogue in critical situations in fights while the characters all just stand around doing nothing. Its not meant to be seen as exact reality in this weird ways and I think thinking too critically about every single tiny fight "plot hole" will take you more out of the show than necessary. Its just not the same as modern anime's fast pacing and 12 ep season format per 2 years. They had to crank eps out on a weekly basis lmao.

I totally forgot how one sided this fight was damn 😭 Anyways hyped for what's coming next! This stretch of Naruto is really some of its best consistent writing. Also about Amaterasu, I don't think they fully clear this up in the show but Brigg is right, Sasuke gained it through his own mangekyo sharingan. Itachi only sealed it in him for that /one/ time to be activated against Madara's sharingan. Their MS aren't exactly the same tho cuz they each have a different accompanying ability which makes sense when you read into Japanese mythology since Amaterasu (the sun Goddess) was born from only the left eye of Izanagi. Their second eye carries a technique named after one of her brothers, Itachi with Tsukuyomi (the moon God), and Sasuke with Kagutsuchi (the fire God). Lots of sharingan lore is connected to Japanese mythology its pretty cool!

I guess now y'all understand why the Uchihas and not just Itachi are considered such a threat. I think we tend to forget these are still 16 year old ninjas who have only recently started taking out significantly strong opponents and because we've seen them do it a couple of times already, we never expect them to really struggle against new ones. That's why I understood it when Carter said he was impressed by Sasuke. Like sure, he's fought hard before but not quite this extensively with all the swordmanship displayed. While he did fight Itachi just the day before, I don't think it would've been much easier for him to battle Killer Bee. Maybe he wouldn't have dropped a knee quite as often, but that's about it. Basically, I was pleasantly surprised by the way this unfolded when I first saw it. It was also a nice way to see the potential for Naruto with the Nine Tail.

There is nothing stated in the manga that says the Amaterasu is an ability of Sasuke’s mangekyou. However, it was stated at least four times that Itachi had implanted his ocular powers into Sasuke at the time of his death. From what we know, mangekyou abilities are unique to each individual user, so Itachi’s were Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi. Because his Amaterasu was transferred to Sasuke, the best guess is that his mangekyou adapted to that newfound ability, leading to his second mangekyou ability to be the manipulation of that Amaterasu, something Itachi did not have. As for the idea that Sasuke’s sharingan differs from Itachi’s when he casts Amaterasu despite being the same when he sees Tobi’s sharingan, that could be due to the restrictions that Itachi set—Sasuke looking into Tobi’s sharingan would set it off. To be fair, I don't like many of the characters in Naruto, Sasuke included. Jiraya is an old man who peeps into women's bathhouses, yet he's presented as the main protagonist's mentor. Rock Lee is probably my favourite character because he's just a pure-hearted soul full of empathy and achieves everything through hard work, not having the right clan or bloodline to inherit abilities from.

As for genjutsu, it is very effective against most people, but Itachi specialized in genjutsu and tsukuyomi, which was an ability unique to his own mangekyou. I’m a Sasuke fan and these episodes were very enjoyable and Killer Bee absolutely did pack Sasuke up. Reading the comments it seems hard for people to grasp that someone being a character fan doesn’t mean you need to see your character winning all the time. This is not power scalling or aura farming talk or any of that cringe stuff. Sasuke basically beatrn fair and square if it wasn’t for the end portion. If the writing is good I’m more than happy to see Sasuke go through anything because it means he elevates as a character. I’m glad the story didn’t reward Sasuke after he made his decision. Sure he got the Mangekyo upgrade but obviously with no experience he got humbled by a pro like Bee. Overall, great and underrated episodes

@Guy You might argue that even though Sasuke didn't directly kill Itachi, he still felt responsible for his death in one way or another so in that case he indeed feel "the pain of killing the person closest to him" but this wouldn't entirely make sense because Madara revealed to him not only that Itachi could have killed him at any moment but also that no matter what happened it was Itachi's intention all along to die in their battle so after becoming aware of that I don't think Sasuke would feel much responsibility for Itachi's passing.

@Guy - I dont think this is entirely the case - The mangekyo of course can be awakened from experiencing " the pain of killing the person closest to you" as long as the bond was genuine enough to cause extreme remorse, guilt, trauma etc. - but Sasuke didn't directly kill Itachi, he succumbed to his illness. I believe he unlocked his mangekyo because he was under so much psychological distress from having his entire reality flipped upside down.

For those who are confused by Amaterasu, each Mangekyo wielder has their own default powers in each eye. Like Itachi had Tsukiyomi in left eye, Amaterasu in right eye , Sasuke has Amaterasu in left eye and his right eye can turn it off. You need both eyes for the Susanoo. Sasuke and Itachi both having amaterasu makes sense as they are siblings and chances are they might get the same technique, just like inheriting cursed techniques in JJK.

As for the reason Itachi didn't reveal the entire truth & instead specifically told Sasuke that killing his best friend was the manner in which he could obtain the mangekyo - Itachi probably believed it was the most sure proof method in order for Sasuke to unlock his mangekyo because in the end Itachi's entire plan regarding Sasuke eventually taking his eyes & awakening the eternal mangekyo relied entirely on the fact that Sasuke would need to unlock it himself before battling him. That's why Itachi was so persistent on telling Sasuke "when you have the same eyes as , come find me"

Sasuke's Mangekyo was unlocked by "the pain of killing the person closest to you" which was the original requirement that Madara fulfilled and it seems that Itachi did as well considering he's unlocked his Mangekyo. By killing Itachi and then learning that he truly had been the one closest to him all along, Sasuke had effectively fulfilled the requirement and then the pain of the realization of his actions set in and THATS what triggered the emergence of his Mangekyo. In regards to his sudden "cop-out" Mangekyo abilities, he just barely obtained the Mangekyo so that comes with some upgrades. We just haven't been able to fully explore them yet and it just so happened that Sasuke was able to experiment and determine a few of its utilities during this battle
