.Severance. 2x8

Very interesting

.Severance. 2x8

Comments

This all felt like it should have been the B plot of an episode, and I hate critiquing this show, but I felt like this one episode could have been paced differently. Love the rest of the show and this week's episode was perfect.

Rigny la Belle

People are way too AHDH nowadays man.

Spencer

Thank you! Interesting episode, was not expecting a cobel episode

jrnoodles

This episode is rated 6.7 on imbd 💀

cozo

I don't care what anyone says, the episode cooked. severance is a slow burner but it's like building a runway to stick the landing. you can't expect the shit to hit unless you collect all the puzzle pieces

Goat

JMO. I love this show but it is starting to piss me off a bit. Every episode just leaves more questions and not always in a good way. Two full seasons and we don't even know what the hell the MDR department or any other department is doing lol. This season feels way to drawn out with little to no satisfaction. This episode could have been 20 mins. I know they are just setting everything up for season 3 but man just get on with the story. I hope the payoff is worth it.

Brett

Jack's IQ must be high EYYY

Ron Jackson Jr

Jack narrating the whole episode with questions no-one can answer :')

Jimmy

If Helena got reintegrated would she be for or against Severance? 🤔

cozo

Hey foreplay is awesome but everyone agrees too much is too much. If you like being stalled like this and that absolute backtrack that was from the climax of last season hey you do you. I've watched a lot of slow burning shows and if it's done right, which Severance season 2 isn't doing, I don't mind it at all. What I like is the right pace to the story we have in hand. Season 1 was slow and it was AMAZING but season 2 just couldn't be slower with worst content, it doesn't make sense. The best example of what this season has been was the outdoors episode. Just complete filler with a cliffhanger, then in the next episode they skip the resolution of the cliffhanger like nothing happened, like the stakes didn't matter. Look, I liked the Burt and Irving thing, but with that that's like what? 2 good Irving moments? Dylan got what? Maybe 1? One of the chats with his outties wife. Mark has been weirdly absent this season, the season in which he's literally reintegrating. I hate Reghabi's character, just so bad. The rest isn't even worth mentioning, thank god Cobel got anything this season.

Nanashi

We got good moments, but they've been sprinkled through meh episodes, take the cobel reveal for example. I really don't care for how this episode went down so the reveal lost it's possible effect it could've had on me

Nanashi

@Nanashi - when I read your last comment, the first thing I thought about, and dont take this negatively, was that you probably dont like foreplay all that much. 😂 I actually love how this season we are getting more "horizontal" development of the show, and not going higher to reach the "top", with the top being where we get all the answers. This way all the characters and the broader context will have more meat to it, which, when handled appropriately up to the point where we approach the CLIMAX (sorry not sorry) it will feel better! Just try letting yourself ease into it... 😌

Mysterious Figure

I personally didn’t have a problem with it, but I can see how frustrating it can be when there are plotlines we’re looking forward while the season is about to end

Rayanh LaNansha

Lighting for sure 😂

McKay Carter

I think the second season terrifically builds on the first one, and so naturally as well, while also keeping so much suspense at an awesomely satisfying pace. I never feel the ending of each episode leaves me unsatisfied because throughout each episode, if you pay enough attention, it is giving so much subtle context clues that inform much more of the grand narrative... I feel like most people arent thinking back enough about everything that happened in previous episodes. This show drastically changes your perspective of characters AND events with new reveals and details even if they sometimes might seem insignificant, but often they completely change the meaning of events if you connect the dots to important plot points from seemingly unimportant moments throughout season 1 up to now. People just dont pay attention or dont remember details well. After each episode there is so much to think about. The story keeps going in your head if you are trying to tie everything together since it is still not easy to guess how it will all end but we are getting so much material to work with after each episode. This is the best part of this show for me, because even when its over I still feel like I am entertained in my head.

Mysterious Figure

yeah i can see that perspective. i like it bc so many questions are getting answered. we have learned so many huge things with massive stakes. just like in this episode. the discovery that cobel invented severance will have big ramifications for the rest of the series. learning that burt is lying about who he really is. we get a glimpse of what outie irving conducting an investigation on his own. we have a huge reveal of the exports hall. idk i feel like we are learning so so so much and moving forward extremely fast. but i will respect your opinion and outlook of the show

Riley

Is AOT gonna be dropping late today boys?

Grae (Formerly known as Huewi)

Disagree with almost everything. Except yeah, Gemma episode was amazing, probably the best one this season.

Mysterious Figure

Not a problem. I don't like being spoon fed, I think this season is actually drip feeding mystery way too much but I just don't want that anymore. After last season's ending I felt like the plot would accelerate and mysteries would be revealed and we would get more interesting plots with higher stakes but we're just stopped in time rn, for a whole season. I thought Mark's reintegration would be a major plot this season but literally nothing has happened, it's crazy. It'll be used for a cliffhanger in the last episode. The stalling is egregious imo. I feel like we got less from all the characters this season except for Gemma and Harmony cause of the last episode, which I didn't even like. I could really go on and on about this season but we like what we like. It's a shame cause I loved the Gemma episode so much.

Nanashi

sorry for the insult actually. i came at you bc i have been loving this season so so so much. i didn’t need to be rude. have a good good good day

Riley

whatever you say. your first comment just makes it seem like you need to be spoon fed information though. i think it’s a step up from last season

Riley

Did McKay's hair get a firmware update or is it the lighting? 👀👌

Mysterious Figure

Monday

Starksego

Are yall dropping naruto tonight or no naruto since yall dropped sunday?

Starksego

Wish it was. If this was the same level of season 1 I would be absolutely loving it, it's been meh

Nanashi

terrible take lol

Riley

The writing has been off this season. Season 1 had the mystery but it was dynamic, weird in the right amount and full of side plots. Second season has been like the writers gave the show to someone else and they're trying to replicate it. I can't take these episodes that are 90% filler with a cliffhanger in the end, just write a decent episode with this side plot in it. Now I'm remembering about the goats episode and thinking what was that for, are we just wasting time? Season 1 had so much character work. Now we only got a sprinkle of some of them, barely feel like I've been with the main squad. The only episode I like were the first 2 only because they connected directly to the first season's ending and the Gemma episode which was a masterpiece in storytelling.

Nanashi

Bro when the episode started with 3 minutes of driving around I knew this was filler with a hook in the end, they've been using this formula a lot, I hate it

Nanashi

I just wholeheartedly disagree. See, that take, to call this season borderline a filler season is absolutely insane to me. Not a single bad episode for me and I feel like they have done SO much and have definitely moved the plot forward and revealed more than they did in season 1 easily.. just a matter of taste or preference in media I guess lol.

Sissy Six

You can't claim you did a good thing because you fixed something you broke yourself. They decided to write the show like this so "but she needed an episode" doesn't cut it. I'm not too stressed about this episode I just expected a lot more from this season. If the Gemma episode didn't exist it would be a major let down, like a filler season

Nanashi

It was an ok episode but this season for sure dragged on too much

Nanashi

which i can definitely understand, the last few episodes of the last season ramped up a lot so i’m guessing a lot of people are expecting that as well. it was really nice to get a little bit of an understanding of Cobel because i don’t think her backstory should be held off any longer lol

kimwa

Ok April let's hope she feels inventor's remorse & helps stop Lumon for the safety of humanity & not because of her own self interest🤞I don't see her going back, but I could see her taking over. 😬 This is her creation after all...I hope my suspicions are wrong though.

Anya

not at all 😂

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

“The 9” is referring to the 9 commandments of Kier. Most of that town was anti Lumon so Sissy is the pariah because she lives by the 9 commandments still

Desiree Retterath

Wow, I didn't even remember that Milchuk did the surgery. So interesting. I think the Mark/Gemma fascination is deeper, seeing as she was a child laborer who was groomed to rely on this cult for life. I think that is why she was so fascinated by Mark and was stalking him against Lumon's wishes. It links to a major theme of the show: "Does love transcend severance?"

april 🍏

I think we can trust her for now. Her motivations have enough weight and trauma connected to her switch up, but I wouldn't be surprised if they manage to pull her back in Zuko S2 style. Indoctrination runs deep.

april 🍏

It's so interesting knowing this information now, especially since Cobel was trying so hard to tell the Board that reintegration was possible in season 1, and they wouldn't listen to her. Also, her dedication to remaining on the severed floor. That was HER life's work. The indoctrination and brainwashing as children adds up and changes my perspective on her "outbursts". It's like watching a child throw a tantrum, because she never got to learn and grow from real human relationships and interactions. Even though Helena wasn't a child soldier, I feel like Harmony and Helena both have a similar look in their eyes when they watch real relationships unfold. Like Helena when she watches Mark/Helly and Harmony when she watches Mark/Ms Casey interact in Wellness sessions. It's like a sad longing for something they have never had. I think this episode is beautiful and I love how it sets the scene. I think it told us a lot without saying much, until the reveal at the end. Like, it would've been easy to show Cobel switch sides after getting fired, but seeing her hometown where she was stolen from. Seeing how her mother was on a feeding tube after she was taken at the age of 12 and never got to see her again. Her town, that Lumon took over, in financial turmoil and addicted to drugs that these child laborers apparently had access to when they were 8 years old. And finally her life's work being credited to someone else. It adds so much to the motivations and makes it so much more compelling.

april 🍏

They could’ve spread the story line over two episodes mixed it with some classic severance action. I’m not denying that there is value to what they showed us it just feels rude to give us 30 minutes of straight cobel and then make us wait another week :(

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

I agree that they may all be genius, but to be fair, Milchick was not doing Helly's surgery, he was simply in the room while it was being done taking pictures of it for the gala presentation.

Brieanne

37 minutes to be exact! I for one loved it and when it was over, turned to my husband and said that's it?!? Felt very fast to me because I was completely engrossed and I agree with others saying that we learned a lot from this episode about why Harmony was the way she was. Until now, everything with her has been speculation, but now we know for sure.

Brieanne

I think what's happening is people are eager to see what happens with Mark now that he's reintegrated so they feel impatient since the season is about to end, which leads them to be unable to appreciate how actually nice this episode was.

Rayanh LaNansha

Well, a lot of that is more of a "show, don't tell" thing. With Cobel going straight to her sisters, we wouldn't have the same understanding we have of how desolate and just fkd her hometown is. The point was to show just how deeply Lumon wrecked her hometown after probably using all its resources. Stuff like that needs to be seen and felt to have an impact. Cutting it out might not seem like a big deal, but the fact is, it won't mean as much as the writer probably wanted to impart on the viewers. And from the "inside" clip the producers put at the end of every episode, the scenic shots were more a representation of who Harmony is as a person inside. Without the huff pedler bit, we also wouldn't know that in addition to the child labor stuff, Lumon was essentially getting young kids so high that some of them are still addicted to it today. I'm sure it'll be further explained later, but I feel like so far, all we had were vague ideas and hypothesis and this episode gave us stuff that is much more concrete.

Rayanh LaNansha

haven’t seen the reaction yet but scrolling through the comments i wanted to say i personally loved this episode. i don’t really see it any different than the previous. both episodes are focused on one main thing and feeding us necessary information. Cobel’s been MIA the whole season so i was really looking forward to see what she’s been up to and what’s on her mind. its the shortest episode of the season i think and it didn’t drag on for me personally.

kimwa

Is it crazy that I'm jelly of the anime side?! 😭😭

Anya

Maybe it will tie in later but honestly the whole story line with the huff peddler felt unnecessary. Cobel could've gone straight to her sisters house and ended at the same reveal & child labor backstory. All the scenic shots and shit just to establish that cold harbor was named after Cobel's hometown because she created severance.

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

I think this is an example of the silent epidemic going on with the worlds attention span...FYI Ryan, it was half an hour of television, not an hour.

jblakk

Do any of the boys have letterboxd?

Ron

Literally nobody was questioning that 💀 it was assumed to be Kier

Icchi

Fell asleep to wake up to a wild reveal 💀 this show stays doin that to me

Icchi

Severance is like watching the aftermath of a shady cult made of doctors and scientists (Lumon) after it took over the world. Personally I think reintegration is just going to be a matter of whether innie Mark will soften outie Mark or if outie Mark will harden innie Mark. The complexity will probably come for his feelings for both Gemma and Helly. I think the hardest person to reintegrate would be Gemma since she’s split in six selves rather than two. She might just break from that. What she would need is a way to wall her off so she’s never switched in and out. She should just be the self that didn’t experience all the other tortures she went through and maybe reintegrate Ms Casey since it’s the only self that new innie Mark 🥲 And to the last comment Canon made in the outro, part of me isnt sure that Burt even was severed. It looks like he might have been with Lumon before they took over the world so he might have also grown up there and just acted his ass off in the office. I feel like his outie self is almost psychopathic though, so there are better chances for him to be severed as you say 😅 . Who knows, he might even be the person who did all the paintings at Lumon. Anyway, I just dont think the number of years will matter as much since he’s much more aware of what’s what.

Rayanh LaNansha

I think a Cobel centric episode at this stage overshadowed the shocking revelation for some. I myself had mixed feelings based solely on the show's momentum. Depsite that, I still enjoyed it & understood the importance of it. (Cobel's past & future motivations. Cobel's turn from a dedicated Lumon soldier. Lumon's seedy history. Ms. Huang's presence.) It's definitely one of the most important episodes.

Anya

Gotta agree with Rayanh here… it’s because she has been MIA that I think this episode was necessary to bring her back into the fold. If they just briefly showed her it would feel disjointed and her character would still feel a little shallow or surface. This episode gave us insight into her character and her complicated relationship with lumon and her motivations so now going forward we can better connect with her and whatever role she plays.

Sissy Six

I’m only going to start watching their reaction now, but I read the comments first and now I’m curious… To the people who find that the episode was too long, which part exactly do you feel should’ve been taken out? To those who find it unnecessary, what was said in this episode that you felt you already knew for a fact?

Rayanh LaNansha

I didn't think about them being doctors until you said this. I probably should've connected the dots by now.

Rayanh LaNansha

The fact that this episode was enough to flesh her out so we can understand all this about her characters and some people honestly cannot see why it was important to get factual information rather than the continuous hypothesis we've been getting is baffling to me. I think not enough people watch the "inside" bit after the show ends. It would probably enlighten those who fail to appreciate this episode.

Rayanh LaNansha

can't say I agree. It explains why she was MIA, why it matters for her to reappear now as it will wrap up nicely with the next episode and probably solidify Mark's reintegration and it also cements our understanding of the little girl they have working at Lumon. I think it was well-placed time-frame wise and for the first time since she show started, I find myself finally sympathizing with her character.

Rayanh LaNansha

Problem - she was in the first episode then MIA - so a whole Cobel Lore episode near the end of the season is kind of hog wash.

Tim Moore

Unkay lol I have faith they'll not screw us like so many other shows do.

Anya

Stefan I appreciate it! I understand the importance of it and how essential it is to the overall story. I'm just mixed because I feel like 2 "bottle episodes" back to back kinda threw off the momentum for me. I just miss the crew. I guess I'm just impatient & want more lol Especially since the season is almost over :( I'm fully trusting the process & the creators did say they have an ending in mind so I have faith.

Anya

I knew when I finished this episode there would be lots of people that were unhappy about it, but I am not one of those people. I loved this episode. I personally like when a show tells the story they want to tell and takes time to go deeper with characters over pandering to broad audiences. Cinematically it was gorgeous and I really enjoyed getting the cobel lore. Also got some juicy info and it ended us in a really good place with her on our team to set us up for a banging final two episodes.

Sissy Six

You can actually see from the comments here and on IMDb and elsewhere that a lot of people disliked the episode. Which is pretty rare for Severance. Some people did like it though, and you are clearly one of those people. I’m happy for you. No need to take many people not liking it as an attack. People have different tastes.

Ryan Roach

Was anyone asking who created it? I don’t think anyone cared that much. It’s an interesting detail, sure. But it’s hardly some incredible mind blowing reveal.

Ryan Roach

I gave up 2 eps ago

UnKay

They want to milk it and get a third season instead of telling the story.

UnKay

you not even subscribed here are you just here to bitch around

Stefan

you clearly dont apreciette good television .... this whole episode was amazing and one of the higest rated of the entire series... go watch a action movie if you want mindless shit

Stefan

she created the severance program.... did you even watch the episode ... if that isnt an huge answer lol

Stefan

We didn’t get any answers. We got Harmony driving around.

Ryan Roach

can you guys please unlock breaking bad s2e3?

Brix

They're fleshing out her character and revealing more about previous Lumon actions/history. It was already a short episode, so I don't really think it's fair to call it stalling, any shorter of a reveal and it would have felt very cheesy. With the new info, you can already look back at the many interactions between Cobel and Lumon, where she was belittled and isolated, which is going to justify the character's next actions.

ahmad

One reveal about Kobel that took ten seconds did not justify an hour of aimless wandering around Salts Neck. Especially when there’s only two more episodes left. They’re stalling.

Ryan Roach

This media player keeps crashing, idk why?

Kevin Landon

fr its been over a month since the last LA movie and almost 2 weeks since AiB ended and not a peep about whats next. I wish they would provide more consistent updates for LA like they do with anime shows

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

Objectively correct take

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

Definitely a polarizing episode. I personally loved it though. Thought the lore and the character motivations for Cobel was very important. That being said, I need to see Irving and Dylan next week haha.

James Moss

some people dont apreciette some good slow tv anymore

Stefan

so we are getting answers and people hate the show now ... thats not gonna go wel when we finally get all answers ,..

Stefan

This episode is super important

ahmad

This was a complete waste of time. The first truly bad episode of the show.

Ryan Roach

When you boys start watching new live show?

Vlad Lena

I agree. They definitely made sure they made use of their trip to Newfoundland lol

Anya

Easily could’ve been a 5 minute part/reveal. Felt like I watched her drive for 30 minutes of the episode.

Safia

I think there's only 10 episodes this season. As much as I like the lore in here we definitely did not need a whole episode on it. Idk I have mixed feelings on this one lol

Anya

Jame Eagan is a fraud. Not the first time in history an idea was stolen. If y'all recall, when Helena was young her dad showed her a prototype of the chip. She said it was pretty & everyone in the whole world should get one. He told her they will because of her & they'll all be Kier's children. I truly believe they're using Gemma to create & sell this "ultimate chip" of a painless/worry-free life to get people severed. Helena is also being used as an Eagan to market this, being severed herself. Lumon/Eagans ofc have their own nefarious reasons for this.

Anya

I believe Cobel initially designed the severance procedure to help alleviate pain & suffering for her mom & all workers. She can relate because she was subjected to child labor. I'm sure the hazards of factory work during that time were plentiful. Everyone seems to be addicted to ether which resulted in chronic respiratory illnesses. Her mom may have been affected the same way. In a way she wants to help "change the world." Unfortunately, her ideas aligned with the Eagan philosophy. However, the end doesn't justify the means! I still remember how she's using every severed employee! Especially Gemma!! I don't fully trust her.

Anya

40 minutes of that. Not sure why they are padding the run time with only 3 episodes left of the season.

JayCnY

nope

JayCnY

I knew Cobel played an important role, but being the original architect of the Severance procedure?! Did not expect that! Valedictorian & the recipient of Wintertide Fellowship?! Wow. It's no wonder she told Helena "you don't value me you fear me" Like she said everything she's accomplished was through dedication & industry.

Anya

reacher fuck yes GREAT show

christopher aquino

To Brigs statement about thinking Cobel was useless, I did too til I rewatched season 1 with yall. THeyre all lowkey doctors. Milchick was doing the surgery for helly. Ms Huang is probably a little genius too. Lumon is a medical company, so their school is like an evil medical school so it makes sense cobel would be a genius and know how to create severance. It also explains why she was so ingtirgued by mark and gemma. She wanted to see how they were taking to her invention.

jblakk

Cool lore drops, but I feel like they could have cut this episode in half and made it the B plot of a full normal runtime episode. Seemed like they really didn't have much to work with and tried to pad out the episode with extended scenic wide shots and coverage just to make it run as close to normal length as possible

Sam M

Easily my least favorite episode of the series.

Jose Flores

The slowest fastest episode of all time. I always knew Cobel was far more important. I also have a strange feeling Ricken is sketchy. I don’t know why I feel that way but there has to be more to him.

GreetswithJudgement

Free willy mention!

Tiga

This was good episode for sure with a crazy reveal but I feel like we didn’t a full solo episode of cobel for this information

traplikemaxxx

I’m dreading the end of peak

Seth Aasland

Absolutely

Cannon Andrus

Is it peak ? Someone tell me

snoobcat
