Mob thinks Reigen can solve anything because he's the adult he can rely on and Reigen thinks Mob can do anything because he's so damn powerful. But in the end, both are not perfect and need others to back them up. They're such a good influence to each other and I love that.

I'm curious to see how the rest of the season goes and if that organization of psychics will come back into play. Also, what was Cannon holding in the video? It looked like a wand? When mob decides not to come into work, we as an audience (or at least me when I was watching) expect reigen to fumble at his job, maybe he runs into a client that actually needs the help of psychic powers or he realizes he needs mob to not be seen as a fraud. But that's not what happens, in actuality, reigen flourishes in that time apart and becomes an even more popular psychic. The only reason he was found out was because jodo's wrinkly ass sabotaged the broadcast. The fact that he was doing it as petty revenge against reigen makes us feel as if the stunt was unfair even though we already know he is actually a sham. Reigen is very capable, I'm of the opinion that he would've managed to at least salvage some of his public image at that press conference. However that all stops being important once reigen realizes that in his pursuit to be sombody, he ended up hurting mob in the process. It is at this time of realization that he decides he needs to reconcile with the one person that motivated him to continue in the first place. He decides that even if he is at his last leg and this is the end, he has to do what he can to fix things. "You've grown up so much, y'know that?" to me, I think that mattered more to mob than a simple "I'm sorry". It is an acceptance of the fact that mob wants independence and to be his own person. reigen in this moment puts his desires aside and puts mob first. Even as a kid, reigen wanted to be special. He wanted to matter. At the end of this arc, reigen finds that not through fame or reputation but through a person who wholeheartedly believes in him. Reigen doesn't need mob in any sort of practical sense but their relationship is what fuels him to truly feel alive.

2025-03-05 16:43:58 +0000 UTCEveryone is focused on how sweet and amazing Mob is, but no one seems to pay attention to Reigen's role in Mob's formation. Imagine how difficult it would be for a child with immense psychic power to grow up without a mentor, without guidance, and with no one to talk to about it. Without Reigen, Mob could have easily gone down the wrong path, potentially becoming a Claw member or even something worse. We’ve seen how impressionable Mob can be. His psyche is fragile, like any child’s. If he was so easily influenced by Reigen’s moral compass, then it stands to reason that he could have easily been influenced by a bad guy too. Remember how Ritsu falls into the wrong hands and how easily someone can be manipulated when they feel lost. I got the feeling that you are positioning Mob as an all-forgiving sage, and Reigen as a scammer who learned an important life lesson only thanks to Mob being in his life (which is partially true, but deeper than that IMO). The final scene and the camera turn from the present moment of Reigen's "rescue" by Mob to the moment of Reigen's "rescue" of Mob perfectly shows the development and interdependence of their relationship. It shows that Mob is no longer dependent on Reigen, but it also highlights that Reigen was a pillar of stability when Mob needed it most. Last but not least, let's not forget that Reigen is the one who gave Mob his nickname. Mob means "a background character" (in a good way). He treated Mob like a normal human being since the very beginning and he is of the MAIN reasons why Mob turned out so sweet and amazing. Ritsu, Dimple, Hanuzawa, parents, telepathy club, journalist girl, Sho — all of them excepted something special from Mob. Only Reigen, body improvement club, and Tsubomi keep it real Maybe it's just my impression and in reality everyone understands that, but I got the feeling that only Carter (and maybe Jack) get this, even if they don’t say it outright. In general Reigen is a better person than he seems on the surface and it was like that since episode one.

There still would've been a way to flip back on Reigen's head no matter what he did. Jodo's whole motive was to humiliate Reigen just as he was humiliated by that gut check (which saved his life). Ngl if Reigen wanted to be petty enough, he could find a way to expose Jodo for getting possessed like that but alas, the lights were too bright and he choked. Much needed though.

Also, if Mob knows that Reigen doesn't have powers is being left ambiguous. All Mob said is he knows his master is a really good person and I think that's all that matters for Mob.

Hard to say which is sending a better message to be honest but as you guys said Mob is much relevant to those of us who live generally peaceful lives away from some of humanity’s atrocities that Vinland deals with.

I love that we can go from the crazy high-stakes action of Eps 4-5 and then an episode like this that’s all character based can still be so amazing afterwards. The ending scene still always makes me tear up a little bit even on a rewatch. Mob is just so pure. Also loved the discussion at the end comparing it to Vinland - I think Mob Psycho has so many amazing messages that can truly change your everyday life; every lesson you learn in this show can be applied to the average person. Mob truly makes me want to become a better person 🥹
