2025-03-05 07:07:31 +0000 UTCThese episodes are just so good on a rewatch. This is probably my 10th time watching and I STILL pick up tiny references I never noticed before. The scene of Eren waking up from his flashback of the Scouts returning and Mikasa leaning over him calling his name to wake him up has the exact same poses and frame composition as the very first scene in S1E1 of Eren waking up by the tree when they’re collecting firewood. And the whole thing surrounding Petra having feelings for Levi, him giving the other Scout Petra’s badge and saying it’s Ivan’s instead… I knew the girls would be tearing up 🥲 Man, despite his stoic face Levi just has so much gentleness and humanity. It’s all heartbreaking 💔

While the other two regiments are focused on defending/policing, the Scout Regiment actively goes beyond the walls to needlessly put soldiers' lives at risk, while accomplishing nothing. However, with a more existential threat looming over them, the expeditions at least have more purpose now.

I wonder if that dude who got slurped up like a noodle was still alive. He was kicking his legs beforehand, so unless his upper body was severely injured before that or he was chomped after, it's possible. It's not like they'd have much time to check anyway though.

The Official Setting Book says that he has nightmares about the faces of deceased almost every night, and he has a lot of paperwork, so he only sleeps around three hours per day in his office.

They weren’t in a relationship, but Levi certainly knew she liked him. The song also explains why the Wings of Freedom is composed of white and black, and reveals the responsibly that Levi bears. Petra’s VA sang the song. Here are the Lyrics: Your sternness always stems from gentleness And I felt a warm light behind those harsh words I recall plenty of painful things… But I made it to where I am, free of doubts, sharing smiles and laughter along the way… Nobody knows what’ll happen in the future… But you’ve always been behind me, giving me the push needed… To choose the path of least regrets, right? But who will watch your back? Isayama said in an interview that he regrets killing Petra so early. When that scout was dying in ep 9, he must be thinking about the same — how Levi will shoulder everyone’s determination and guide everyone beyond the wall. That’s why he died smiling. For these scouts, Levi represents hope.

Then they did the genius thing and did away with literally most tropes completely. And the tropes that they did use they reformed so it to make it watchable and reasonable.

2025-03-04 02:31:03 +0000 UTCYeah there were times when I felt impatient during those typical shonen moments like the classic "5-minute inner monologue over recycled footage" stretch during the titan fight, but there were also amazing moments I had totally forgotten like the Scouts melancholy march back into the walls. Little touches like Mikasa gripping Eren's hand while he sobs, it's very humane and mature in a way you don't see in a lot of anime. But I agree it pretty much just rises and rises from here.

I think the only person from Levi squad that's in the top 10 in the scouts would be Oluo (I will die on this hill as an Oluo fan). I wouldn't even include Erwin in the top 10, he's outstanding, but that's more due to his leadership and strategies.

Not hating on season 1 at all, I like it just as much as the next guy but the fact that it only goes up and up and up from here, is master class story telling. It subverts everything you think you know. It’s truly lightning in a bottle. Most shows do not get better. They only get worse with each season. This show reaches the pinnacle and mounts itself there.
