What a wild finale

.Alice. .In. .Borderland. 2x8

Comments

OMG YES Money Heist!!!

YANXI

You only mentioned 3 K/Jdramas and you think that it’s too many? That’s simply ridiculous.

YANXI

Yes I have. I loved it. It's really good! I was hooked right away. It kept me on edge. The acting is top notch! haha

Betsy

Have you both watched Kingdom (Kdrama) before?? It’s so good I need to know if there are other Kingdom enjoyers out there

Mim

Yall I miss Alice in boarderland reactions

I’m Tired

Idk if you geks recall but that person in the video was about to reveal the truth in that recording in that van but got interrupted by the king of spade, so we could have found out right then lol Also mira was pretty sus in the Beach Arc in one particular episode where she looked at arisu and talked about the heart game with a sneaky smile. Dang watching season 1 episode 1, usagi was standing right there and you guys didn't know lol my interpretation of the games is their will to survive while being in that cardiac arrest for 1 min

Riya

Band of brothers is a must watch!!

velemon

What’s replacing this?

TVGirl

thats an underrated mind fuckery of a show lol. i dont think its gonna generate many viewers on yt though.

Kaydee

haven’t even caught up yet but THE GLORY PLEASE 🙏🏾 like i really do enjoy the show and rate it highly but i also genuinely just feel like it’s such a good ~reaction~ series from the first ep

alexis ♡︎

They probably do and I feel bad too when so much pressure is put on them all the time. Yeah I think so. Aww yeah it's not the same without you, Anya either. Me too. Hope it's a show us AIB patrons like as well lol Thank you! Hope you have a great weekend too and stay safe. Talk to you later. 🥰

Betsy

Trust me there's been soo many The Glory comments I'm sure they know lol Yes love Study Group. There's just soo many loved shows we want to watch along with them but they're only human lol I feel bad sometimes how much pressure we put on them. I'm sure they know it's all love. But yes hope it's something we both or most AIB patrons watch because I miss y'all on the Sev./BB posts. It's not the same. Hope you a great weekend! I'll catch up with you later!🥰🫶

Anya

And I get what you mean but there are only 2 LA shows at any given time (severance is a live drop). I would be sad if one slot was for kdrama esp since breaking bad will be a long watch

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

Hopefully they just take 2nd place from last poll and do Vikings

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

That's a good point and a great idea! And yeah hopefully so. There's just so many recommendations from people. I'm sure it's hard to keep up with at times for them lol And yeah I always am happy and excited to start conversations with you. 🥰 But I also kind of want them to see Study Group haha

Betsy

Aww your so sweet!🥰 Yes, it already climbed top four/six I believe, which was a feat lol The others hopefully will have their time to follow. Yes, I have other fave shows, but I like the diverse selections. It should just be international in general.

Anya

Good morning, Anya! I was just thinking of you. And I guess that's only fair since it was on the poll last time. lol I just love Weak Hero and All of Us are Dead a lot. And I agree a poll for Kdramas/Jdramas would be great and helpful :)

Betsy

Think the next one is based on a poll. I get what you mean but we already have Severance & Breaking Bad. It'll actually be nice if they had a spot for Kdrama/Jdramas. But yes other than Kdramas/Jdramas it's unfortunate that (imo) most great shows don't do well on polls. My top to win here are The Expanse, The Last Kingdom, Vikings Westworld, Black Sails, & Band of Brothers.

Anya

Good Morning Betsy! I love those but I want The Glory first lol

Anya

I know it probably won't happen but I'm still holding out hope for Weak Hero Class 1 or All of Us are Dead 🙏

Betsy

I hope yall do not pick another KDrama/JDrama. We've watched a lot recently with shogun, squid game and AiB. I've enjoyed all 3 but there are many even better written western tv shows that yall have been missing out on. Here are a couple recs: Succession: after AIB the dialogue writing is going to blow you away 3 body Problem: 1 season, game of thrones cast, a bit of mind fuckery like severance or dark. Black Sails: its GoT but about PIRATES! what more needs to be said Vikings: similar vibe to shogun, different cultures bump into each other during age of exploration and shit goes down

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

Alrighty!

I’m Tired

There is a sequel where arisu goes back into the games, I don't think it was very long though.

BlueSmurf

Yes it is

Chalène

Humm don’t think so. I’m standing with the Glory next watch because it’s so different so far with what the boys watching and obviously show is really goated. I mean I don’t know I think it must be a really great watch

Chalène

Pray for “Weak Hero” or “Glory” be next one 🙏🙏🙏

Vlad Lena

City Hunter is pretty good. I watched it long ago so I couldn’t remember the details now but I remember it’s action packed. I watched The King: Eternal Monarch too - the casts are good but I’m personally not too fond of the story. Haven’t seen Personal Taste yet - will check it out sometime later ;)

WHY

You guys should watch Weak hero class 1 or All of us are dead next

Tami

I know everyone’s recommending The Glory but I think shows like Weak Hero Class 1 or Bloodhounds are really better suited for yall

I’m Tired

I mean i get his view point, and yeah, some of his points are valid. It just felt like he was stuck on only seeing the show's faults so i tackled some of them to maybe get him to try and see beyond them. I mean, few things if any are perfect in life. If you only focus on the imperfections you'll miss out on a lot of greatness

Stefan

Mask Girl!

SALAMANDROID

THE GLORY pls

Jozfna

I'm not clicking that. & I'm just making a broad statement. This is not an attack. It applies to both sides. Don't be sorry for your opinions. Continue to feel the way you feel. You get what you give though.

Anya

Thank you guys for finishing another show! Actually this is my first time watching the ending (I didn't like the deviation they took with the K♠️ and I guess I just stopped watching lol) and I see there are a lot of differences with the manga. The LA left quite a few things open whereas the manga has answer for them, like certain characters status, or the Joker role that gets explained in the manga but here is open to interpretation. I don't want to say anything in case this gets in the new season tho, overall it's an entertaining show, not the best one but it's still enjoyable. I take manga over the LA. I guess it also comes from one of my comments on the first or second episode, the Japanese acting is overly dramatic, I've seen a few shows and that part were I have to get pass the cheese acting in order to enjoy it has been there, I'm kinda use to now, but I get why is not everybody cup of tea. Sorry I went all over the place there. I appreciate the reactions, looking forward for what comes next!!

Ale

Ok, sorry yall for calling you unbased, also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukP5EDbqp-I (Hope links work xd)

Didus

EXACTLY! Critique the show all you want you have that right! BUT when you start to shit on people's personal preferences or judge the workings of their mind it becomes a different story. Don't act surprised or play victim🙄🙄 Or go ahead and shit on it you also have that right! BUT be prepared to receive that same energy.

Anya

Yes! I love Vikings but The Last Kingdom is better imo It's also an adaptation so the original source material is there.

Anya

THE LAST KINGDOM NEXT PLS!

Amna 🍉

late realization, Sukuna summoned Meteor in Shibuya lol

Redbone

Me too and Personal Taste, and The King: Eternal Monarch. He's played in a lot of dramas. I haven't seen City Hunter yet 😅

Betsy

I liked Lee Minho in City Hunter and The Heirs 😆

WHY

Yes it gives them the recognition they deserve. They need more love. 😭

Betsy

Yeah, shows like Kingdom is good cuz it gives the underrated groups an opportunity to shine. You’re welcome. Hope you enjoy 😊

WHY

It's okay. I feel old too haha I watched all the versions probably most of the Thai one. But really enjoyed Meteor Garden the most. However, Boys Over Flowers feels nostalgic and I love the soundtrack in it. There were so many good songs. I'm also a big fan of Kim Hyun- Joong. I liked him in Naughty Kiss or another name fof it is Playful Kiss. It's based off a Japanese manga and anime. I also like Lee Minho's acting. I liked him in Legend of the Blue Sea.

Betsy

Yeah Kingdom: Legendary War was so cool. SF9 is underrated too. Oh cool those sound nice too. I'll have to check them out. Thank you WHY. 🤗

Betsy

I like Kingdom: Legendary War. That one was 🔥 I also like competition shows like “Physical 100” or “The Devil’s Plan”. Not K-pop related but they’re so good. One is physical competition and the other one is intellectual.

WHY

I don't watch survival shows much but I like competition shows such as Road to Kingdom and Kingdom: Legendary War. I thought they were pretty good.

Betsy

Straight to the point, Kaydee 👏🏻 Everyone has different tastes and preferences, that’s absolutely fine. People don’t have to like it or even agree with others. The only problem is the superiority and the arrogance shown because of the differences.

WHY

Yes 🙌🏻 Wannaone - I remember watching the reality show “produce 101” that produced this group. I don’t follow trainee survival shows anymore but I kinda miss the good old days haha Same here - the new songs are a hit or miss Yes I like MONSTA X and some earlier songs of Twice :)

WHY

No need to apologize at all! And those are good groups too as well as BAP too, the older hip hop group in the early 2000s. I also liked Wannaone and other groups that are underrated, Kingdom and Astro. Aww I don't mind us still talking about it. I love Kpop but lately I haven't cared for a lot of the new songs that have been released only a few. It's kind of a hit or miss for me sometimes. Do you like Monsta X, Twice, Loona, Dreamcatcher? ☺️

Betsy

Feel like I have to add 2PM, SISTAR and Seventeen to the list. It’s updated now. How could I miss those 😭 Sorry for opening this conversation again. I know we’ve kinda wrapped up on the K-pop topic but I’ve got to add these 😂

WHY

Urgh Netflix. That sucks. It would be great if they had kept it. I didn’t watch the Chinese version; I watched the Taiwanese version (2001) which I believe is the first one among all. Then I checked out the Japanese version, can’t remember if I had finished it or not - it’s long time ago I feel old 😭

WHY

Me too! And I understand. And there's no need for you to disclose that personal information on here. And yeah it's been lovely. It's always nice and fun to meet another Kpop fan/Kdrama fan. 🥰❤🤗

Betsy

Yes you are correct! But very my favorite would have to be Meteor Garden, the Chinese version one. I've watched it so many times until Netflix removed it like they do with a lot of their shows. lol😢

Betsy

That’s so cool to know :) Of course I wouldn’t mind telling you personally which part of Asia I’m from but I’m a bit wary of saying it here on this general platform though 😅 I agree. Concert tickets these days are so expensive. It’s not worth the money to me even though I always imagine hearing live will be a different and wonderful experience. I’m glad I met you and get the chance to talk to you not only about dramas but also K-pop too 🫶🏻🥰🤗

WHY

no one has any problem. you can hate shows that others like, and you can support shows that others dislike. the only problem is you guys gassing yourselves to be the smartest people bc of differences in preferences. 🙂

Kaydee

Boys Over Flowers is definitely the classic that starts the trend for K-drama. I think it has Chinese & Taiwanese versions, Japanese version and even Thai version (if I remember correctly).

WHY

Now to be fair, I don't think me or Mysterious figure ever said that we hate the show. I'd say it's like a 7/10 give or take 0.5. All the praise it got propped it up as something a lot better than it is, but now I guess I'll go have a look in the mirror since it must be a me problem or something.

Didus

Vikings next🤞

richard noel

youre the one whos acting high and mighty by saying you and one other person who hates this show are the only based people. since someone disagreed to you in a rational and respectful manner, youre suddenly calling out people who act high and mighty lol. look at the mirror, dude.

Kaydee

Thanks, Merry. I'll try my best. 🥰🤭

Betsy

Acting high and mighty doesn't make you right. You can like something and should still be able to see the glaring weaknesses of the show. The good parts just don't excuse the bad ones.

Didus

Yep betsy credit goes to you for getting us out of our comfort zone. 🙂 keep this liveliness in you. And sagittarius here😉

Merry

I gotta say, as someone who likes the show I feel like mysterious figure has a lot of points I agree with. I don’t think it’s a lack of understanding, it’s literally just having a different pallet which is totally fine

Cannon Andrus

Please watch the glory next

Imane

Yes thanks, Stefan and I agree with everything you said, WHY. Goblin is one of my favorites. But my first drama was Boys Over Flowers I think ☺️

Betsy

You're welcome! And yeah it's a whole lot easier and more affordable. Concert tickets are so expensive especially with the more popular groups. I'm so glad I met you, WHY. This is so cool. 🥰🥳 Also, if you don't mind me asking, what part of Asia are you from? I just saw you say something about that in another thread. Sorry I don't mean to pry or anything. I was just generally curious. I'm adopted from South Korea. That's another reason why I got into Kpop and Kdramas. I wanted to learn more about Korean culture :)

Betsy

Yay 🥳 IU and Jannabi 🙌🏻 Wow so glad you know all of them. Thanks Betsy. I’ve never been to any of their concerts. That’s so cool, blu-ray is good enough 👍🏻

WHY

Me too! I LOVE Goblin! Very unique genre/theme combined with romance. Yeah Strangers from Hell is too dark but only for the sake of being dark, it’s too much. Sorry and thanks Stefan 🥹🙇🏻‍♀️

WHY

I get too immersed in the conversation. Lol Aww I love IU. Her voice is so soothing and I like Jannabi too. I also listen to a lot of K-Indie. MAMAMOO are definitely the vocal queens. That's a pretty good list. I know all those groups/artists. You have great taste, WHY. Since I don't go to concerts, I just order them on blu-ray. I can afford the screaming fans that way and go to the bathroom when I want lol

Betsy

No worries at all. I rant too and my comments are always so long 😳 That’s a lot of groups you’ve mentioned. They’re all kinda new to me 😭 I guess I have an old soul for Kpop. The groups I follow(ed) are pretty old now, some even disbanded already. EXO is my ultimate bias (agree on EXO, SHINee and BTOB being the vocal kings; Mamamoo should be the vocal queens). I really like EXO, iKON, Super Junior, GOT7, 2PM, CNBlue, IU and Jannabi. I used to listen to so many groups/ solo artists even though I don’t know their complete discography: SNSD, BigBang, SISTAR, SHINee, BTOB, Seventeen, BTS, Blackpink, G-idle, KARD, f(x), AKMU, B1A4, Day 6, 4 minutes, AOA, Girl’s Day, Apink, Miss A, Red Velvet, Twice, Aespa, Sunmi, Crush, Zico … I might have missed some, the list could go on lol I’ve got to stop here

WHY

The fact that you made that promise actually proves my point and showcases exactly what you are missing 😀

Stefan

Don't worry about it. I'm glad my comments sparked conversation. I don't have to be at the center of everything 😅

Stefan

Love Goblin! It's a classic. When the Camellia Blooms was really good too. I couldn't finish Strangers from Hell. It got to me too much even I love scary things. The Glory is great but so intense. I got very emotional. I can't believe it's based on a true story. Poor girl... And sorry Stefan, I didn't mean to take over your thread haha 😭

Betsy

Oh yes, I watched Goblin with Gong Yoo in it; When the Camellia Blooms, Midnight Runners, and Love Reset with Hanuel in those; the Glory and Queen of Tears with Park Sung-hoon in those; and Strangers from Hell with Yim Siwan in it. Not a big fan of any of the actors but I really liked Goblin, the Glory, and Midnight Runners.

WHY

This is too cool!!! I'm excited as well. BTS first got me into Kpop. Then I got into Blackpink, and EXO. I love R&B. And EXO are known as the vocal kings but so is SHINee and BTOB. Now my ults are ATEEZ, NCT, and Stray Kids. There's just too many talented groups. I listen to them all. I like a bit of mixture such as The Boyz, Enhypen, TXT, Treasure, etc. I'm more into boy groups. But there's nothing wrong with the girl groups. I just happen to like the style and music of the boy groups more. They resonate with mr more. Yes Aegyo makes me cringe so hard. I want to hit the wall. It's just not it 😳🤣 But if I had to pick a group the geks would enjoy, it would probably be Stray Kids due to their edginess and style of songs with their unique beats. Sorry I ranted. My comments are always long even when I tell myself to be good lol

Betsy

Good for you for liking it I guess. I can promise you that there is not much I'm missing. I'm just not the kind of person who takes everything they see on the screen at face value and can go with it.

Didus

I’m a multistan too!! This is getting me excited haha Can’t even remember when I got into Kpop but I remember EXO being the group that got me first introduced to K-pop, though I didn’t pay any attention to them/Kpop when they debut. I learned their earlier songs a little bit afterwards. I like some 2nd gen groups and mostly 3rd gen groups. Tbh I don’t really follow the new generation groups now - they’re too young for me 🥲 But yeah, I don’t see the Geks getting into or liking Kpop either, even I find Aegyo cringy haha

WHY

Money Heist When!!!!!

Angad Kang

True. It didn't show their true acting abilities to their full potential. They are all well known actors who are very versatile in their roles. I'm a big fan of Hanuel and the actor who played Crypto guy. Sorry I can't think of his name right now. He played in Strangers from Hell 🤔 Ahh... Yim Siwan. That's it. Haha

Betsy

And that's so neat you're a Kpop fan too. I've been a multistan since 2017. We can talk about Kpop now. But I feel kind of weird doing it on this post. I can't really see the geks getting into Kpop a whole lot due to some of the cringiness of it such as Aegyo Haha 😂

Betsy

Oh that’s for sure - I agree they’re all top tier acting cast. I love the cast of SG s2. I’ve watched so many of their dramas, each one of them. Their actings in SG are good but I personally think SG has somehow limited their potentials. Their actings are much better in other dramas.

WHY

You’re welcome 🤗

WHY

You're welcome! It sounds really good. I love a good mystery story movie. I'll have to check it out. Thanks, WHY :-) 🤗

Betsy

Aww that’s so sweet of you, Betsy :) Thank you 🫶🏻 It’s a mysteries and detectives story incorporating more haunting elements cuz the movie came out during Halloween. Some suspense and inference drawing/deduction of events there. It serves as the sequel to “Death on the Nile” and “Murder on the Orient Express” but they are not related, so can watch as a standalone movie.

WHY

I should probably watch s2 as well i guess. The debate between what show is better will probably heat up even more once s3 of both shows are out so i should watch it even if only to be able to better defend AiB 😂

Stefan

I actually enjoyed the second season a lot more than the first season of Squid Game. I like how it was more light hearted in some parts and the characters were more engaging and more lively. They were all a Top Tier acting cast too though. I'm so curious about season 3 this summer.

Betsy

I usually get why people like stuff i don't. If i don't get it, i figure there's something i'm missing. So there's your answer 😉 I could tell you what it is you're missing too but you might not like that

Stefan

Aww I think it was fate for all of us to meet each other on here. And Anya, I'm a virgo too and an ENFP. Yeah I would be the same if meeting ya'll in person I think. I'm the type that likes to spark up a conversation with complete strangers randomly at a store. Aww glad I could get you all out your comfort zones. That's pretty neat. 🥰 And that's why I can relate to this show so much and can feel their emotions due to my own struggles. Sorry I didn't mean to talk about myself so much on here though. I feel like I tend to get too personal on these threads... lol 😭

Betsy

Mysterious figure might be the only based person in these comments, I don't really get how people can watch this mix of dialogue and just absolute nonsense happening in this series and say that it's so good. It's entertaining maybe but most of the stuff that happens is like the last episode of Squid game season 2 where no one can hit the main characters and it's as if Oda started writing it with everyone being invincible. I'm not even saying Squid game is amazing but this certainly is not better than it in my opinion.

Didus

Same Stefan. I watched SG after all the hype, not when it first came out, just because I was curious. I also wouldn’t say I hate SG. Without taking into account the unoriginal elements, it’s still a decent show. I didn’t like s1 ending either. But I’ve got to say I enjoyed s1 so much more than s2. I feel like s2 is really slow paced and things are duplicated but the increased number of characters there are still not developed in depth even though the show’s slow enough. Maybe s3 will do better and make it more complete. And me too, I also watched the two shows in the same sequence as you, and I instantly liked AIB more 🤝

WHY

Absolutely! Those are also just my interpretations. I enjoyed exchanging thoughts with you, Stefan.

WHY

That's why it's fun to talk about these things. Because you can't know for sure and have to piece things together. If things were clear, talking them out wouldn't be much fun. Those are just my thoughts

Stefan

Fair enough. I actually agree with everything you said (the hearts stopped and the dead showed up) except the use of the term “afterlife”. It could be border of the afterlife or it could still be the border of life and death. Who knows? I guess we’ll never know cuz like you said we’re not supposed to know the answer or that there is an afterlife. I think maybe it’s just because the show is explicitly called borderland and in the manga there’s indeed the existence of joker who designed the games, so I prefer/ am more inclined to use the term “borderland”. But hey like you said, it might be just a way of saying but not an actual fact cuz nobody knows about afterlife or remembers it after coming back to life again.

WHY

Yeah, the more I rewatch AiB and read other people’s comments and exchange thoughts with others, the more it clicks. And same, I also pick AiB over SG without any doubt. I have rewatched AiB and reactions for the show so many times but I could only watch SG once without interest watching it twice or for any reactions. It is kinda unoriginal when the writer also admitted taking lots of ideas from other Japanese survival/money game shows. SG (which came after AiB) has lots of similar ideas to AIB too: childhood games, transgender character, mastermind (SG)/dealer (AIB) hidden in the game, game master in SG playing the games too just like citizens in AIB. I know most of the actors and actresses in s2 of SG. They’re all main/lead actors/actresses in different K-dramas and are very famous. The actors/actresses are what draws me into watching s2. But in terms of the writing of the characters themselves, at least for now, they’re not very well-developed or well-written imo. I don’t get the hype around SG too. But I understand why it’s so popular, partly due to the K-pop/K-drama culture and partly because it’s Covid when s1 came out so more people are staying at home watching Netflix.

WHY

Exactly! I guess it's my fault why my circle is small Lol Yeah Betsy wrote to me first & then we just connected & it was over after that! I would just search for her comments. Now I do the same for y'all lol Ok don't want to take Merry's thread so I'll say I hope we all meet again on the next show!! 🥰🥰🥰

Anya

Welcome🙂

Merry

I don't blame them for not getting it on the spot. It took me a while too. For a while i was torn between thinking they were in the afterlife or that the ending was a lie and they're in the joker game. I found myself thinking about the show in the following days and things were still clicking. So i figured i had to rewatch it and it made so much more sense after that. And when season 2 of squid game came out, i was thinking about watching it but i decided i'd rather rewatch AiB instead 😂. And even on my second rewatch things were still clicking. Like that fact that Heiya's mom that shows up during her game is literally her and not a hallucination. For me if it's a choice between AiB and squid game, i pick aib without a second thought, even though squid game was the one i watched first. Didn't really get the hype around it, found it unoriginal, the ending poorly written and some character choices questionable. Feels like one of those things people like because everyone else likes it too

Stefan

Omg Anya, I’m completely the same. I feel like you’re describing me in your first paragraph, except I’m an Aquarius through & through. I seem cold in person but once it clicks and the chemistry’s there, I can chat with a person all day all night long 😂😂 Definitely! I agree! We need people like Betsy to bring us all together and help us step out of our comfort zones.

WHY

Aww thanks Merry 🥹☺️

WHY

WHY same! If you came across me in person I'll probably seem standoffish as I tend to keep to myself. It takes me longer to warm up to people. I'm a virgo through & through. But once we engage in conversations & I like your vibe maann I'm gonna be stuck to you like glue! 😂😂 Online definitely speeds up the process & people like Betsy helps bring us out of our shells! 🥰🥰

Anya

Keep fighting ladies✊️ That's why I love this show. We can relate soo much. We are all experiencing some type of suffering! That's why I'm grateful for this where we can all escape & connect🥰

Anya

Don't apologize🙂WHY Your comments and thoughts made this journey more beautiful. I'm happy that my natural feelings connected with someone in our conversations.

Merry

This is so relatable to me. I’m an introvert too but I really enjoy having long and deep conversations with others. It’s rare to connect with someone, whom we’ve never met before, but feel like we’ve known each other for a long time because we share similar thoughts. Sorry for jumping in, Merry. I just couldn’t hold myself from joining in cuz this is such a lovely and relatable thread 🥹

WHY

Hidoiii 😔😭

Fatipapi

Oh u reminded me! I still gotta watch their shogun react :o

Fatipapi

I could write a novel

Brig Andrus

Joker can have symbolic meaning that the hardest game "joker" is life. I heard that somewhere. The ending make sense that all of them came back with better self-esteem. Season 3 will probably take manga sequel. Haven't read that one and never will because I think that this ending is the best to end story with

Gnom

I don’t think anyone here has said that the acting is “exactly how good acting looks like in Japanese shows”. Most people here said it’s more of a cultural thing - Japanese normally act very formal/rigid not showing their real expression/feelings on their face, but when they do, they tend to exaggerate their expressions and acts, not just in dramas but even in real life. I’m Asian so I know Japanese culture and how they act in daily life. Yes, the acting in this show is very dramatic and anime-like, can’t deny that. I wouldn’t say the acting is top-notch, definitely not, but it’s not as bad. Considering this is an manga-adapted live action and the director probably wants the acting to be anime-like and more truthful to the manga, I think the acting is quite good cuz it is very anime-like. Not commenting on whether it’s a good decision to make it anime-like though. People have different opinions. I think there’s a difference in the way of acting between normal drama and live action adapted from manga. The acting in normal drama will be more realistic but the acting in adapted live action will understandably be more dramatic, more anime-like. So maybe it’s not too fair to make such comparisons or group them altogether when talking about the actings. I’ll just consider them as different approaches and styles of acting depending on different mediums.

WHY

It’s an anime

Will

Well said Kaydee. I don’t think Niragi has any redemption arc or the show made him a good person in the end (except that he didn’t actually become a bully in real life). The place is not a moral judgment zone. Niragi only made it because he had a strong will to live.

WHY

Looking forward to your takes too :)

WHY

Aww that’s too kind and humble of you for saying that 🥹🥹 I’ll miss reading your and everyone else’s analysis & reviews too. I love all our brains coming together and exchanging thoughts.

WHY

Mysterious Figure don't listen to them. I have seen one other show besides Shogun that is not anime turned to live action and the acting there is great. But the acting here is also great especially Kento Yamazaki who plays Arisu. Arisu's expressions are exactly like in anime. I mean I haven't seen the anime but obviously his expressions are so anime-like

Sasha

Well we all have different minds.

Sasha

Interesting answer. Doesn't really make me like the show more, but I dont hate it. I get what u are trying to say and it sounds fine on paper, but it just looks stupid on screen. But hey, Im glad u got the message out of it. Who cares if I think its stupid or not, your enjoyment is what is important

Uros Vesic

You're very welcome 🥰

Betsy

Thankyou🙂

Merry

Thanks girl. It's hard because, I have Tinnitus too. Oh wow! That's so cool you can connect and resonate with Naruto like that. That makes it more special for you. My favorite anime is Mob Psycho 100. Aww I understand. Take all the time you need. Your health comes first. ❤

Betsy

Yes i like naruto its my favourite anime... Because this anime reflects the realities of my own life, I'm emotionally attached to it. The pain arc is my favorite arc. After that one, I'm going to take a break from here.

Merry

I'll pray for you too.❤️ I'm a pharmacist so I know about this.

Merry

bahahahha im wondering if it's a cultural thing. i am asian and understood the concept of borderland even during my first watch. maybe its because in our culture, we believe in similar things that before you truly die, you are stuck in purgatory. and there are some myths here where people's hearts stopped beating/declared dead but eventually came back to life.

Kaydee

your points are valid, except for niragi being accepted or being almost a good person in the end. i think he's still a bad person and the show didnt want him to be redeemed, he was a bad person from beginning to end. but since borderland is about willpower to live, the place is not a judgment zone where only nice people can make it through. and i dont agree that chishiya and arisu accepted him, its just at the point of the borderland where its crucial for them to focus on finishing the games than paying any attention to niragi. hes just a cockroach that exists, always makes it through, but is not really relevant to the bigger picture.

Kaydee

I know Anya doesn't lol but Merry by chance, do you watch their anime reactions? ☺️

Betsy

Every words coming from you is so true will miss too betsy🫶my unseen friends❤️😀

Merry

I'll be praying for you too, Merry. Hope it gets better for you soon and your stress and worries subside. I can relate in a way. I have hyperacusis. It's a rare hearing disorder where normal everyday sounds appear loud and even painful at times. It causes me to have a lot of fear and anxiety. But the geks and you guys brought me some peace and helped me take my mind off things. I'm so lucky to have met you all. Thank you so much. Love you guys too! 🥰

Betsy

Thankyou Anya .... Hawaii is a beautiful place. I hope I can go there someday.🙂

Merry

Totally agree Stefan. At first, I was skeptical about it being adapted because of how wild it is in the manga lol A lot of stuffs can break the immersion & I totally get what people mean. Not everyone can focus on the beautiful message which is unfortunate but understandable. Yes it's the concept & theme that makes this one of my favorites.

Anya

I kinda like the ending. The meteorite thing was pretty unexpected, but the borderland started to make a little more sense to me. Basically they were all stuck in "purgatory" or something like that. I know there's some confusion about how they all had the same fever dream and participated in these games, but I think that's the point. I mean what is reality right now anyway? We're all here sharing the same existence, we're not all playing crazy games or anything like that but for them that's their reality. Our reality is just our perspective, if we all somehow just woke up and all our memories are gone then that would be our new reality. I get it though how all those experiences if they don't remember then how do they change, but like Carter said maybe it's just instinctive. You have a lot of people that almost die and come back have a different perspective. My father had a heart attack, was dead for a while but they were able to bring him back and he changed after that. I don't think he went to the borderland lmaoo, but idk being that close to death can change you.

SuperChuckABoo

WHY 🤓Can't help my nerdy self sometimes lol Yes! Their LA counterpart holds their own. Just reading all the non reader's admiration & understanding of them makes me happy. You guys get it. My love for their manga counterparts only shows just how much more impressive they are!

Anya

Stefan. Totally valid. I loved them from the manga & that's why I mention them a lot on every post lol The Borderlands seem different through their eyes. Definitely interesting & complex.

Anya

Exactly! Looking forward to reading your takes as a non reader. Of this show ofc

Anya

Your better than me lol I'll miss reading your analysis & reviews! 🥹🥹 I love your brain lol Ty🥰

Anya

Ok Idk what that is lol Ty! At first I read JFK😂😂 I was like whaatt?!!

Anya

The show is mid, but didnt expect all these issues. Good thing I dropped it during S2 Ep1

-

Living despite absolute deadly circumstances was merely a representation of the willpower to live through the real life incident everyone was caught up in. The entire show is a metaphor for willpower and desire to live and change oneself. If you want to call it an asspull thats fine, but that was literally the message of the show. Every character had regrets and only the ones that wanted to live despite their struggles survived in the end. It is a beautiful representation of humanity but if you want to specifically to stick to realism, yeah this show was never meant for that.

Ronald Bohne

💯

Lydia

They already watched Shogun. Its on the patreon.

Keem Bro

I've seen a few ac units like the one in the show get set up. I think in most cases you could tip them over if you push hard enough. Keep in mind that the world there had degraded fast and probably a lot of what was securing them was rusted badly. And yeah, i would have went for the neck too, but i don't expect most people to act the same way i would. Ep 7 wasn't too bad for me in terms of over the top action. Ep 1 was. King of spades was missing every shot when it came to the main cast. Poor directing choice probably. They made it look like every shot was landing at their feet. Does break the immersion a bit, true, this show isn't perfect. I'll take that over bad writing every day though. And i feel that's the problem with most shows these days and it's why i like this show more than most other shows

Stefan

Fair take. I have also said before, I still enjoyed most of season 1 at least. Some things that are immersion breaking in fiction wont usually ruin the experience for me either, however, S2E7 pushed it way over the edge for me. I will tell you tho, if a guy is shooting up everyone and I have a knife behind his back, I am 100% stabbing his head and neck. He aint surviving. Also, where I live, our AC units are firmly secured or else pedestrians would be dead every day with how many of those would end up killing them if that wasnt the case, and no, you cant kick them off with your feet. That only happens in immersion breaking anime tv shows. 😂😂

Mysterious Figure

Man, bit**ing about how people react in life and death situations while your ass is probably sitting on a couch right now and has never been in one is funny to me. Adrenaline does things to the human body and mind. Your response to it needs to be conditioned, meaning you have to be in situations like that again and again to be able to handle it, otherwise you freeze or act stupid. Most of those people are normal and haven't been through situations like that. As for the ac units, they aren't bolted to the wall. The stand they sit on is. I do agree that some of the action scenes are a bit over the top. Some of the acting is wooden too but that might actually be a culture difference, as japanese people seem more formal and rigid and wouldn't behave the same way westerners would in many situations. In any case, what makes this show good for me is the plot, the story, the idea behind it. A few slip ups in some action scenes or acting don't break it for me

Stefan

I've also seen people say the acting in this show is exactly how good acting looks like in Japanese shows... well, if these kinds of shows are what you have been watching then I am not surprised you cant tell cringe/bad acting apart from an outstanding performance. I suggest you take a look at a recent show - Shogun if you are interested in MANY outstanding Japanese actors showcasing superb acting performances. Not this repetitive - My character says half a sentence somewhat dramatically... BIG PAUSE... then my character finishes the other half again semi dramatically... and almost every interaction between characters plays out in this manner. This aspect of their "acting" was really hard to watch.

Mysterious Figure

People say the last episode "explains" the nonsensical stuff in this show... did you also mean stuff like: - an NPC having several seconds opportunity to stab the King of Spades in THE HEAD, NECK, LEG, ARM etc... but REPEATEDLY stabbing the guy in his bullet proof vest?! - 3 NPCs taking a hood of a car as a shield and then point blank falling face flat in front of the K♠️ to get all executed, instead of ramming him and pinning him underneath - such an easy kill - King♠️executing an NPC right next to Ann and then disarms her of her gun but then simply stops without killing her for several seconds for absolutely no reason, giving the... martial artist girl the ANIME ABOMINATION MOMENT of the decade - kicking the car rear view mirror scene... 💀💀💀 - Usagi running from King's♠️ bullets by running along the roof of a car rolling into an anime cool pose, then stopping to look at the guy for 2 seconds instead of running BEHIND the car for cover - Usagi running over wall bolted air-conditioning machines trying to use them as "weapons" to "throw" at the K♠️, managing to detach?!!? those from the wall too LMAO refusing to just grab a stick, iron bar, knife etc... not her anime character trade mark I guess?! - Arisu (an established smart guy) wasting multiple opportunities to shotgun kill K♠️ just ...aiming... the shotgun and ...LOOKING... at the guy... and not taking the shot...💀💀 - Arisu's "master" genius plan with the drug store was the stupidest thing I have ever seen - Aguni missing a point blank automated rifle shot on the K♠️... - Aguni then OF COURSE hits the flying explosive WHILE himself flying in the air but he missed every single shot before then... - multiple characters missing every single shot on every single body part on the K♠️when only his chest was bullet proof... - the one legged girl making anime slides along the ground to shoot an arrow from ...melee... range and still miss (but cool cinematic shot taken, cheers gurl!) There are so many more ridiculous examples of just this type of stupidity that is also sadly present too often for my taste even in the rest of the script when it comes to character writing, dialogue, overdrawn melodrama (last episode "psych ward" 15min+ bleeding out dying scene that I almost fell asleep for). Not even gonna get into the ending - that was such a cheap uninspired copout.

Mysterious Figure

How are any of these ppl dying from last ep still alive at the end to choose? Has to be the biggest asspull I have seen. Unless only special ppl never meant to die, which I also do not like that much. Stil a fun watch.

Uros Vesic

😂

Cannon Andrus

lol idk how I feel about this show

1999

Aguni did want to die, but on his own terms. Like while at the beach he wanted to take everyone down with him and in the second season he wanted to go out with a bang taking out the king, probably his way of making amends. He never actually gave up except at the end when hatter showed up and stayed his hand

Stefan

See y’all in September 2025, I will miss these Alice In Borderland reactions and comments.😭

Will

Anya, this is so interesting to know. Thanks again for sharing the manga story :) I wish they had adapted the citizen’s relationship too after reading your comment. But even without so, I still really liked these citizens for their different pursuits and ideals.

WHY

Maybe he will have another accident sending him back. I am not very well informed on the new season. The thing is, this is the true ending, but they are reimagining it and if I remember correctly there was a sequel manga maybe the sequel is what they are going to do.

ReaperCome PepegaAim

Thank you✨

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

I actually liked Kyuma and Kuzuryu more in the show than any of the main characters and i think rightfully so. Both of them saw a bigger picture than just living and dying and getting back home

Stefan

Thanks Betsy, Sasha and Anya :) I tried so hard to make sense of his existence in the show lol This is the best that I could think of that “justifies” his existence, his survival and his “return” to the real world 😂

WHY

Laxatives 😂😂 hahahaha shitting themselves so they can’t finish round 3 💀

Fatipapi

So true. S3 can totally subvert all of our interpretations/assumptions/expectations based on the manga.

WHY

What's JJK?

Anya

How can u not thirst over Aguni

Fatipapi

What you said about Chishiya did not change my mind at all. Also I think in Squid Game the director wanted money for himself making this season since he did not get a lot of money from the first season.

Sasha

Exactly! It doesn't discriminate. You can be the most shitty human being or have the nastiest attitude but if you have that fight you can survive!

Anya

Didn't know that, thank you. Only ever watched the show.

Jacob Zamora

The Borderlands is not exclusive to the meteorite explosion. There were even others who preceded the current face card leaders.

Anya

Good interpretations! I won't confirm or deny or expound on this 😂😂 I wanna see what the show does because they can totally deviate from the manga...

Anya

You may not feel emotionally attached to the characters in AIB - that’s okay. But with all due respect, it’s such a bold/wild statement to say that Chishiya is just a “blank” character after all of his backstory. He’s not the typical good character but imo he’s such a rich character (more than just a cool dude) considering what he had gone through working as a doctor and how he calmy and intelligently dealt with the difficult situations in the games. Backstories for all the different characters could be much longer or more detailed but I think they’re enough to make their points in the show. Because it’s called Alice in Borderland, it makes sense to me that the show’s more focused on Arisu and the story is told from Arisu’s perspective; it’s his pov after all. In terms of comparison (if one really feels the need to do so though I don’t think they’re comparable), since AIB s2 ends where the manga ends (though with a more open ending) and SG s1 originally already ends with s2 being a season newly created, I think it may be more fair to treat AIB s1&2 as a whole and SG s1 as a whole to make comparison (and AIB s3 as a separate part and SG s2&3 as a separate part to make comparison) cuz all the later seasons of both shows are more of an extension “forced” by Netflix to make more money.

WHY

Circle of life. Circle of love. So beautiful💞

Anya

Brilliant take WHY👏 I didn't even want to try & understand him & his representation. I know, it's my loss & totally biased lol But people like you get it so thank you! Very well said!!

Anya

Isn't it only 1 season. Just part 1 and part 2

Sasha

Seriously love y'all🥹🥰🥰

Anya

Itaewon Class, Weak Hero Class 1, Mouse, Strangers from Hell, Mr. Sunshine, D.P. , Death's Game, Kingdom, Welcome to Waikiki, It's Okay to Not Be Okay, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, Through the Darkness, Life on Mars, The Guest, My Name, Business Proposal and Our Blues are kinda good also

Sasha

Good theory Will!

Anya

The Expanse is one of the best sci-fi series I've ever watched! Unfortunately, there's little to no audience for it here.😢

Anya

One of the maannyy things I wished they had time to adapt was the citizen's relationship. (K♣️)Kyuma, (K♠️)Isao, (K♦️)Kuzuryu, & (Q❤️)Mira met each other within a week upon arriving. They actually bonded & became friends. Yes Isao too lol They never played games together but would gather in the park every morning to share their experiences & information about the Borderlands. 83-85 days later, they were in the second stage & all beat their predecessors. Kyuma shared the rumors of citizenship & all said they would accept. Kyuma: for the freedom of his soul. Isao: save upcoming players from this battlefield. Kuzuryu: seek answers to his ideals. Mira: observe the Borderlands & study humanity. As a celebration, Kyuma suggested they all participate in the final game together and retire the current citizens. Final game was the K❤️. I have a soft spot for these citizens because they're fighting their own battles. I see our characters in them. Our characters could've traversed the same path had they accepted residency. Tragic knowing that had they declined residency, they would've lived. They're just stuck in "purgatory." I guess metaphorically speaking, they never overcame life's challenges.

Anya

Thank you for the reaction!! I loved every single thing y'all had to say and how you received it and how you stayed engaged even though the show probably isn't high in your favorite things to watch. I really appreciate that. Personally, I also loved the ending, but I absolutely understand why it was problematic for McKay. I also gave up on finding out what the trailer for season 3 what might look like, though I'm super curious about where they'll go with it.

Rayanh LaNansha

What about the new season? Do you think it's not about the games at all?

Sasha

Both Squid Game and Alice in Borderland are about to enter their final seasons so I think the proper comparison can only start then. But so far Alice in Borderland characters have had little to none emotional value to me except for Karube and Chota and that was only because of Arisu. Squid Game especially season 1 had me emotionally invested way more than Alice in two seasons. For me at least characters depth is a VERY important aspect to consider and they had all the chance to make Chishiya for example a better character with his backstory but he was really just a blank character in the end. Just a cool dude with hands in his pockets. Also what was really the point of Niragi and both Chishiya and Arisu accepting him kinda. It was almost like Niragi was a good guy in the end. I think only Arisu has the depth that is comparable to any important character in Squid Game. But like I said both comes to an end this year and maybe Alice characters redeem themselves.

Sasha

Merry!! 🥹🥹 Fellow introvert here. That's why I'm grateful to Studio Gek for this. I was able to meet & interact with y'all & especially because we're all from different areas of the world. 🤯 My personal circle is small & my nerdy circle even smaller lol That's why I've always looked forward to these weekly discussions & enjoyed our times. It's not goodbye, but until we meet again! Mahalo!🫶 Sending love & blessings from 🌺Hawaii!🥰🥰🥰

The Joker card being open-ended is Netflix exclusive. In the manga, it's role is explained. They should've stuck with that so viewers can have a better understanding of the whole Borderlands concept. Not mad though cuz I'm looking forward to season three. I won't explain the Joker card just in case it's the big mystery next season.

Anya

I freaked out on the rewatch because you can see Usagi's silhouette in season one episode one. You can also see the work truck Tatta was in. The rest of the characters were out of the camera angles because a lot of it were seen through Chota's camera.

Anya

Betsy Anya🙂It was great talking to both of you, even though I don't usually talk to people. Although there is so much to say. I'm quite introverted, but I really enjoyed this journey and being open with you. I don't know if we'll interact again, but this was a strange and good feeling. We've never met, don't even know each other's countries, but we just knew someone shared our thoughts. It becomes a habit to wait for conversations with them. I don't know if we'll ever talk again. God bless you all❤️And thankyou Gek for giving this platform Where we escape from our daily tensions and stressful lives, and enjoy ourselves. Takecare❤️

Merry

@Mari True actually, you're right!

Your will to live is what returns you to the real world. The Q❤️ is the final game because it tests that very will. Are your convictions strong enough to withstand the psychological warfare and next level trickery? Are you worthy? The Q❤️'s offense is words. She'll try her hardest to manipulate & challenge your beliefs & character so you give up. If that doesn't work, she'll attack your emotional state in the hopes of you killing her. Either way the Q❤️ wins. She'll succeed through your failure or she'll be set free. She was able to project Arisu into an illusory world because he has undergone a large mental stress. He was more susceptible to her lies & receptive to her cunning manipulations & suggestibility. Your weakness with added stressors is dangerous to the mind. Her game was also meant for the viewers because we also want answers so it was hilarious when y'all fell for it. Lmao! Witnessing y'alls broken trust is top five haha It's very fitting that everyone had a cardiac arrest & the final game was the Queen of hearts. The croquet match was done by the Q❤️ in Alice in Wonderland as well.

Anya

This some shit JJK have as symbolisms lol

McKay does not like when he does not understand. I like open endings so much because not everything has to be explained. But now that the new season is coming out it's not even open ending kinda.

Sasha

They can't remember, because it never happened.

ReaperCome PepegaAim

Brig's "I'm going straight to hell" was funny af

Sasha

Jack goes to sleep at 9pm everyday. Okay he's getting roasted like crazy in this episode😂

Sasha

In a way, the Borderlands represent purgatory. Temporary state of suffering & purification of souls. Our characters are basically in a state of limbo. However, instead of heaven or hell, it's life or death. Whether you live or die is based on your will to live. Your perseverance. The games represent life's challenges. Akin to a test of worthiness in the afterlife. Your physical body is not in the Borderlands hence, the crazy amount of cheating death. It's like an alternate dimension where your soul, spirit, & mind fight for a second chance at survival. In this battle of life or death, your equipped with your life experiences, personality traits, beliefs, & skills. The stronger your will is, the stronger your "cheat code" lol Even before the Borderlands everyone questioned their life's purpose/existence. They were also experiencing some form of suffering. Well here is the place to find some sort of peace and/or closure. Their time in the Borderlands is not remembered but the lessons they've learned & challenges they've overcome becomes innate after their "rebirth" We see & hear more hope for their futures. They're still connected hence their sense of familiarity & attraction. Notice how their injuries in the Borderlands also correspond to how they got hurt in the real world. I've always thought that they all experienced the Borderlands differently. Their presence & the life challenges are there, but the way it's presented varies. We're going through Arisu's pov & since he's a gamer, the challenges are through games. Coping styles/strategies.

Anya

It’s a theorie for season 3, ain’t the manga stopped at what happened in ep 8????

Will

The Manga explains the characters a lot more, especially the face cards and how they ended up being residents/face cards

Brian

I really think Bloodhounds would be a perfect series for you to watch! It only has 8 episodes so it's a quick watch and really amazing, I think you would love it

Tastycake_

Nah even if they did look it up this is just a theory. Manga readers know what really happens.

Brian

I meant since they already did Squid Game a while back ago, I thought they might enjoy another one but with a different vibe such as Weak Hero lol

I couldn’t watch any longer. If they didn’t “predict” what’s going on while watching the show with ridiculous expectations every 5 seconds maybe they’ll pay attention to what’s going on and understand what they’re watching. I think I heard someone say “How did the meteor know who to hit and pick the right people to play in the game?” Like hello? And the guy in the hat kept saying “I don’t understand I don’t understand who set up the games, who’s making them play the game?” I lost brain cells listening to him. I’d rather listen to Lord of the Sus Brig pretend he’s never seen this show before even though he’s read the manga and the summary before watching.

Ryan Ry

No that’s not what I said, I think they will not enjoy a lot of kdrama, that’s what I mean.

Chalène

I do feel like the Japanese acting in this is over dramatized due to the anime origin of the story imo

Thanks comrades, The Glory my battle for the boys this year 😗

Chalène

A great journey 😌, I would recommend The Glory if you had to pick another show. Only 2 seasons and it’s such a good story !

Chayma

My theory for season 3 is that the joker is obviously the last game and either it represents someone and I think it’s Banda or Yaba, or it’s just an entity. And If they defeat the joker game they will be able to go back to their life but with their memories. So they will remember all the relationships they made, everything that happened, ect. Because I find it really sad that. At the end of episode 8, they came back and they forgot everything while they have made such beautiful relationships like Arisu and Usagi. All of these sacrifices, team work, just so that at the end, they do not recognize each other ( this is just a theory!)

Will

The joker has been fooling everyone since the very beginning

Redbone

Band of Brothers and Penguin would be the fastest watch of your life and then two amazing shows will be out the way like a breeze saving time for the longer ones.

GreetswithJudgement

- The only thing that is missing for me is that there are some scenes, backstories and characters in the manga that didn’t appear in the Live action but should have imo. Because, those scenes would add more explanations on certain things. - But also some scenes that appear in the live action but wasn’t in the manga. For example, when Heiya was trying to do some things… with Arisu. This scene is not in the manga but they put It in the LA and it tarnished her image.

YAAASS

Chalène

This is just a speculation of mine, but i think Visas indicates their heart stopping so they need to keep playing games activating adrenaline rush to make them feel alive and keep breathing on their real bodies irl, injuries happened in the games - happens irl, red lazers are for final departure like the sound of heartbeat monitor in the hospitals, and time perception varies individuals on how the blast affected anyone based on how quick they lose consciousness going to the borderland.

Redbone

The glory next guys! An amazing drama with such beautiful writing. I think you guys will enjoy it!

MissCinnamonSworll

Without having read the manga, this show reminded me of ancient mythology stories where the hero went to hell and had to fight his way out, or pass through trials to prove he's worthy to return to the world of the living. The games are basically that, trials and the borderland is an antechamber to the afterlife. That is why Aguni and archer girl saw dead people. Both Hatter and the girl's mom showed up to guide them in difficult times, because they're all basically in the aferlife. Those weren't hallucinations, the girl's mom literally showed up to show her where to jump and saved her, she couldn't have imagined that. Also explains why Arisu saw Karube and Chota right before he was revived and they told him to live his life. It's also why Mira was able to make Arisu see all those scenarios, because this is the afterife, it's a fantasy world, it can be whatever it needs to be, it's why it changed and degraded the way it did, it was basically telling them their time is almost up for good. The lasers were divine judgement basically, that's why they were so op, either God, a god, death itself or whatever was running the show there. The dealers were people who's bodies were too f'ed up to get another chance at living so their stay in the borderlands was just a quick pit stop. Players that chose to stay there after the games were over died for good but didn't yet move on to the actual aferlife and they got to put others through the trials. Upon rewatch this show takes on a whole different meaning and is a different watch so i think if you guys ever have the time you should give it a go. It's like a souls game actually for those that played one. You think it's just hard and and just has a bunch of random things thrown in, but once it ends you feel like it makes sense but doesn't, like you missed something, and when you dive in again and take a closer look, it's just filled with clues that tie it all together perfectly. And yeah, i can't really say that i loved any of the main characters but i think the show was too fast paced to make you really get into them and was more focused on the story and the concept which i do actually love.

Stefan

YESSS I AGREE. That needs to be next!

MissCinnamonSworll

There's a short sequel to the manga, it's still Arisu and Usagi, so probably that's season 3... or maybe they're milking this series jk but nahh based from the trailer

lex

Wow this is a really good take.

Sasha

When I watched it the first time I felt a little cheated but now I’m at peace with it I like the way they ended it. Now im worried about season 3 because A: it’s not in the manga and B: it’ll make this ending kinda pointless and idk how they could make a different ending that wouldn’t be corny like if it’s aliens or some shit part of me is going to be like “realllyyy????”

Alan

Please watch The Glory !!!!!!! it's kdrama

Owen

It's been a fun one guys! i'm sure I'll see you all in some other show's comment sections too or at least in the comment section for season 3!!! :) <3

Alex

a needdd

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨

Basically, those who lost their will to live during the games also died in the real world. Karube and Chota sacrificed themselves so Arisu could survive, which could suggest that when the meteor hit, they shielded and protected him. All three fell into coma, but Karube and Chota didn’t make it due to the extent of their injuries. If they had been rescued just a little sooner or kept fighting to survive, maybe they could have lived. 🥲

Now I need them to watch Weak Hero Class 1!!!!🙏

The cardiac arrest element was a great touch and an effective way to explain the situation, especially in a real-world context. In reality, when someone goes into cardiac arrest, they die if their heart isn’t restarted within minutes. During that time, they have no recollection of what happened while their heart was stopped, just like the characters here, who have no memory of their time in Borderland.

Very well said :)

Betsy

It was such a fun journey! Thank you, WHY. I enjoyed the rewatch even more because of my AIB pals. You guys are amazing! Ya'll know who you are. See you for season 3. 🤗

Betsy

People were able to interact in the borderlands because it is simply another plane of existence. They were all actually there (not in their conventional bodies but in spirit and mind). The living world, Heaven, and Hell might be considered similarly as other planes of existence (the latter two being the ones that people move on to after death). People who believe in the concept of heaven believe they will meet their loved ones and legitimately exist with them there no? The borderlands is the same (I feel) but is just the plane that exists between the living world and the afterlife. Therefore, naturally all of the characters would exist there and be able to interact etc.

Alex

It was a great journey. Thank you my AIB pals 🫶🏻 See you all in season 3 🫡

WHY

You’re right, Luke. I don’t think the acting is bad. It’s more of a cultural thing I guess. While the acting might seem off to some audiences, it’s actually quite truthful to how Japanese act in real life.

WHY

Agreed! The Glory is a must watch. Good plots good writing.

WHY

To think that Niragi never actually did those things and is just someone who got bullied in real life … I understand all the hates to Niragi and people all want him to die whenever he appears, but I think the writer has purposefully kept this character in the show not only because the show needs a villain, but also because as the King of Diamonds pointed out, it’s not our decision to put a value on someone’s life; it’s not for other people to decide who can live or who cannot. Niragi’s character represents the never-ending cycle of violence and the society we live in with lots of hate crimes where people just go after the ‘weak’, the ‘weird’ and ‘different’ ones, who are the minority representing maybe only 5% as opposed to 95% of the people in this world. I like it when the writer didn’t have Niragi stay in the borderland but have him also choose to return to the real world cuz he equally has a strong will to live. To think that he didn’t actually become a bully in real life is like putting an end to the cycle of violence and stopping the continuation of hate crime culture in real life.

WHY

sigh....

𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓪

A complete saving circle is shown here: Usagi saved Arisu from depression after Arisu lost his friends > Arisu saved the injured leg guy from the bus > The injured leg guy saved the King of Diamonds > King of Diamonds saved Chishiya > Chishiya saved Usagi from the shot > Usagi saved Arisu again from the breakdown in the Queen of Hearts game > Arisu saved Usagi from bleeding out.

WHY

Without getting into how the show’s gonna develop in season 3, there’re basically 2 broad interpretations of the joker card when season 2 ends: 1) Joker represents life: As Mira said to Arisu, life is just like a game, full of challenges and difficulties. 2) As people who’ve read the manga said, the Joker is indeed the game master (like a God/a Devil or neither/both) who’s designed these games and given those people a second chance to live if they survive the games. Those who have a strong will to live in the purgatory/ borderland between life and death will live in the real life. So even though here in the show the games seem more like a metaphorical battle for lives/survival, in the manga people were all indeed playing games together in a different dimension (i.e the borderland) and that explains how people (who don’t know each other before) could interact with each other in the games.

WHY

I have a question. So like King of Spades ore queen of hearts were there when meteorite hit the earth?

T. Panina

Now hunting of hill house? 🥹

TVGirl

Agreed with every words

Chalène

Actually I think they would. Probably not a lot of kdramas, but strongly thought The glory will be a interesting watch for them

Chalène

I highly recommend it to you actually. It’ kinda short ne treat about good themes

Chalène

To me, If Karube lived longer he would have been one of my fav character because I love his personality. But unfortunately, we only saw him for 3 episodes. Some people have him has their fav character but I needed to see more of him.😔

Will

I hope y’all watch all of us are dead, because it’s a very good show.🔥🔥

Will

Kingdom next? 👀 (the Korean series)

Pats

yuppp, i dont think theyd enjoy a lot of kdramas, but the glory is a must watch.

Kaydee

Yeah kdramas, I don't know if they would enjoy the glory but it's a good one definitly. Weak hero, my name too

Jozfna

Succession theme has been my ringtone ever since lol

Ashley K

It’s actually coming to Netflix soon before S2 releases

Ashley K

Hope ya'll do another kdrama. I highly recommend Weak Hero Class 1. I can see ya'll really liking it :)

Betsy

Quick question, I was wondering when are the season 3 episodes for invincible are gonna be coming. Or if there will be any sort of schedule for them?

Jude Rahim

I believed it too. It seemed legit at first. 😂

Betsy

Really happy to see that I wasn’t the only dummy to fall so hard for the first heart queen’s story 😗

Chalène

When I first watched this, I believed her and she played with my brain, I felt manipulated.

Will

Yeah it was crazy but so good. I really liked the theory of them being from the future and are playing in virtual reality. I thought that was a cool spin on things too. lol

Betsy

Thats cool I never knew that hope they expand on it in season 3

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

I love the message of the show. It really does well with showcasing how far humans will go to survive if their will to live is incredibly strong. Then nothing else matters. They're willing to go against the odds. Also, I think the ending tied everything together nicely. But I'm still wondering where they are going to go exactly with season 3. Hope more things are revealed in terms to The Borderland. To be honest, I kind of have low expectations because, I liked where the ended left off on in this finale. However I guess we'll see later on this September.

Betsy

Well it was a good journey. 🙂 Lets see what season 3 will bring🫡

Merry

Succession theme is the theme of themes. It lives rent free in my head.

GreetswithJudgement

Enjoyable and entertaining. Concept is amazing, execution needs work. The only thing that’ll make it better is to take it to new heights. Fast and Furious level heights. Also I’m a sucker for fucked up games. A 7.7 is a good rating for it and I’ll watch as many seasons as they come. No matter how ridiculous. Hot take- Not a fan of Arisu and Ann is my favorite character.

GreetswithJudgement

Never heard of that show but I'd be happy to watch it for the first time with the Geks.

Luke Fox

The ending does such a good job keeping you on the edge of your seat. Wondering which theory was correct, if the psych ward was real, then wondering about the choices, I thought they would all get lasered if they accepted, wondering about the memories coming back or not. Just constant questions until the end.

Luke Fox

Fair enough I guess. If you don't like the characters, you don't like the characters. I don't think the acting is bad though, you just arent used to Japanese acting, it is far more based upon classical plays than the US. A lot of American acting looks weird to foreigners too.

Luke Fox

NOW, everyone behind my back. Next Asian series must be THE GLORY. Like PLEASE, I am begging you. Shinzou wo sasageyo for THE GLORY guuyys✊🏾🤺

Chalène

The person in change of the games is the Joker. The ferrymen to the afterlife. He asks Arisu in the manga whether he looks like a God or a devil to him. Hes just pure chaotic neutral. He gives people another chance at life if they find their purpose but he also plays around with people and has his fun thus the Joker persona.

Luke Fox

Well that was a wholesome journey. Thanks for u guy’s thoughts !

Chalène

Setting my expectations low, maybe it will give them an easy bar to clear lol

Luke Fox

Maybe a mixture of both. And when I first saw the theories, I was like, "Come on, please get to the actual answer!" Haha

Betsy

As much as I’m scared for season 3, I can’t wait to watch it and to see the AIB cast again. I miss them.

Will

I think the Geks should choose the next 2 live shows. Do not leave it up to us.

GreetswithJudgement

with the succession main theme on everything becomes peak

JAN NARUTO

Very well put :)

Abrianaaa

This has been fun can't wait for what's next

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

I love this show but I’m really not a fan of the resolution either McKay. Arisu sees real people he’s never met before in the borderlands meaning it is not “in his head” but instead there is some divine power that created and controls the borderland, fires the lasers etc. If that’s the case, then this divine power decided that the best afterlife is one where all the loser and psychopaths from the world (pretty much the only people who would decide to stay and become citizens) decide if you live or die? Think about how many people just got shot by the KS with no way to control their destiny. It’s a very unsatisfying solution imo.

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

The point of the games also comes down to finding their purpose. Chota and Karube ended up making their purpose in life to allow Ariusu to live and thats also why they died

Luke Fox

Probably because of the thought that the acting is bad was going on in the back of my mind, especially Arisu and Usagi, the main characters. I could be the only one thinking that, but it was not my cup of tea. Usually I get teared up pretty quickly and often for shows like these, but only might have had it when the boys died.

Natsu1401

Netflix modified this ending slightly to add in the Joker scene at the end. In the manga, the joker was actually the ferryman, like the greek myth on the ferry on the river Styx that takes people to the afterlife. He gives people without purpose a second chance at life by psychologically challenging them to find a purpose and thus returning them to the real world. He actually appears to arisu and tells him this in the last game. They also cut out a scene confirming Arisu and Usagi get together and a scene of a reporter interviewing people on the meaning of life, which I recommend you read becuase its a nice moving scene in the manga and really wraps up the theme of the story.

Luke Fox

Just to clarify for some of the geks, this is the consensus interpretation of the ending: The people that were affected by the meteorite hitting shibuya were left in a life-threatening state. That's why all of the people who we've seen in the show were around that area. For some reason, an unexplained phenomenon occurred where all of these people's heart stopped for a time (simultaneously). In this state, they were fighting for their lives - being essentially at the BORDER of life and death. This is where/when all the games occurred. To answer Mckay's question, the games were basically a metaphor for all of the people's battle for life during this state. Those who died during the games - meant that they didnt win their battle in the real world and died from the meteorite. This idea is also the reason why some characters just COULDN'T be killed because of their willpower to survive and live on. Aguni and Niragi are examples of this - deep inside they wanted to live on, hence surviving all of those ridiculous injuries. Meanwhile, those who didn't have the willpower - like Tatta, died to lesser injuries. Even Kuina didn't die from those fatal stab wounds because she was still fighting her battle for life and won it in the end. The intertwining element of the story - how people were able to interact during the games (as you guys pointed out) could just be a metaphor as well --- that they were all in the same BORDER of life and death together because of the phenomenon of their hearts stopping simultaneously. But hey, this is what we understand as of now.... season 3 will for sure bring more light on this. FOR NOW, we understand the games as just metaphorical battles for those people's lives. I'm saying this because with the release of Season 3, it feels like THERE HAS to be a change to this narrative. In my opinion, I was satisfied with this ending because it tied things together. Season 3 will make a way for them to return to the game --- but the question is, will it be something that makes sense or will they force a plot point just for the sake of making a new season? Hopefully, things still tie together. Fingers crossed.

lololol

Damn idk how you didn't feel connected to any of the characters. Thats the entire reason this show is among my GOATS for live action. The message and character journey was so good.

Luke Fox

Honest thoughts…I’m glad I watched it here. Don’t think I would have finished it otherwise. The games were interesting, but don’t think I felt connected to any of the characters. Also felt the acting was so bad. Only liked the acting for Karube and Kuina roles. Regardless the final episode was good.

Natsu1401

Kdrama next pls🙏

Jozfna

Peak, S3 hype.

Ronald Bohne

idk if i mightve missed where this was discussed but all the crazy things you saw like people’s miraculous survivals and abilities that most likely wouldnt have happened in the real world, were all things to do with their will to live and/or survive (in other words fighting for their life), and in this show these are two very different things, you have characters like arisu who lost (at the time) his only will to live and had to make and find a new one vs characters like niragi who out of his own spite and selfishness refuses to die, thats also why heiya didnt die in both of the games we saw her participate in bc her will to live was stronger than others, we also see examples of people who dont have as much will (whether thats based on an overall will or bc of their lack of knowledge abt the borderlands bc its earlier on is more up to interpretation), an example would be karube and chota they accepted their fate long before they even died they kept insisting arisu would be the only one to survive if it came down to it.

HrlIEJB

Now is the best time for y'all to start succession. With Severance in hand, it's gonna be PEAK after PEAK. It's one of those unique shows with best plot twists and humor

Ayaulym🇰🇿

1:09:27 Usagi's dad is canonically dead. The show says he went missing while hiking but the manga shows you that he is 100% dead. Usagi's flashback contains her returning home from school one day to find her dad had hung himself. Being called a fraud by everyone is a serious thing in Japan, so he took his life over it.

Alex Ramirez

The nerve of Carter being like “ew, why are they doing this” and then continues to put a pretzel in his mouth lol Stress eating is real.

GreetswithJudgement

I like how the queen of hearts calls out all the most likely fan theories and makes fun of them. I'm not sure if Arisu is being clowned more or the viewers watching lol.

Luke Fox

Season 3 reaction is gonna go craaazy
