That the innie and outie are basically the same person, they laugh at the same jokes and wear the same haircut etc. That being said, i think hellys personality is helenas real personality, because she has no recollection of her bad dad and her "trauma" to repeat the 9 core principles and so on. So i think Helly is who helena would have become, if she didnt went through that kier bullshit. Hope its understanable what im trying to say.

What Id like to add here, and what your post made me think of, is that it would be interesting if Helena and Helly experienced some form of "integration" but in a different, more organic, natural manner, bypassing the Lumon tech in their brain. We are basically shown Helena becoming more and more like Helly, for several reasons. She wants to get closer to Mark to experience affection she never seemed to get from her father, and in the process of doing so she is becoming less and less like the cold, distant Helena, while taking on more traits of her innie self - Helly. And so, ironically, Helena, starting out as a mole character might actually become a traitor to her own cause. It will happen, I am sure of it! She could just be the character to prove how innies are never and will never be completely different people than their outie counterparts, because at some core level Lumon can never actually COMPLETELY separate, or "SEVER" all memories entirely. We have already seen examples like Irv where he remembers through his paintings, so obviously Severance isnt as perfect a procedure as Lumon might want. Other obvious examples are therapy sessions innies have where they are comforted by being told what their outies are like - why would they even have any reaction other than being indifferent to what their outies are like, unless they STILL have some connection to themselves? So yeah, Severance is far from perfect. And this is probably Lumon's biggest problem in this show - this also feels to me like Cobel's biggest motivation. She seemed to always show the most frustration when innies show strong emotional reaction or connection to something related to their outies, which implies Severance isnt working as she might hope it would.

2025-02-09 05:06:54 +0000 UTCI’m making a prediction and I think I’m cooking. I think that the way that they are finally able to get Gemma out of the Lumon dungeons is through Helena. She said to mark that she doesn’t like who she was on the outside, that could’ve been a manipulation to try to cover for the gardener shit but I think that’s Helena’s genuine feelings. It also doesn’t feel like Helena is completely bought into the whole Eaganism cult bs the same way say Milcheck and Cobel are. The laughing at the book is the only concrete evidence that I can think of now which could’ve been an act but I don’t think so. I also think that she was gaining feelings for mark through the whole mole experience because it doesn’t seem like she got much affection from her dad just from what we know about how their interactions happened. A few points on this - He/the board didn’t know she had almost died in the elevator in season 1 until a certain point that’s when Cobel got in trouble. - That means that Helena didn’t tell HER FATHER that she almost died. - Mr. Eagan said “thank you for doing this” to her in the bathroom hinting that she was doing it to help him out. You could argue that she was doing it for the company, but I think her main deep character drive is pleasing her dad. - in her little video speech she talked about the having to say the core principles every night before bed and not always being happy about doing that kind of as a joke but there’s more there it feels like. She also obsessed over the kiss between mark and helly when rewatching the tapes. Or at the very least was taken aback by it. That very well could’ve been her first kiss. It seems that she’s devoted most of her energy to Lumon and doesn’t have much of a life out of it. So time to cook. Helena is doing all of this, not for the company, because she craves the approval of her father because she’s experienced a lack of it in her life. She goes to the severed floor and experiences the connection with Mark partially as a mole but partially because she wants human affection. She’s started to show she actually cares for mark. She’s being vulnerable with him in the tent, calling his name when she was being dragged by Irv, etc. so these feelings eventually escalate over time to a point where she’s put in a position to do what mark wants and what he wants is to save Gemma. Also in terms of storytelling I think that would be a very unique way to tie it all together. And who else would have the power to accomplish all of this narratively.

Not to mention, in the last episode of Season 1 of Alice in Borderland, Brig was about to give some of his criticism about the show, but he was literally cut MID sentence by your edit - WHY? Like last episode Dylan’s wife was dressed EXACTLY like Pam from the art show episode of The Office, down to her necklace and hair, and even the shot of them hugging mirrored the shot of Pam hugging Michael… and people noticed that Helly, Irv, & Dylan’s locker numbers are all numbers from the iconic Lost sequence of numbers. Cute little hat tips. But the stuff you can find and the rabbit holes you can go down with this show are endless. I just can’t help but geek out about this show man.
