OG Naruto is pretty inconsistent with those things, but go watch the scene where he used shadow possesion on Gaara and Naruto punches Gaara. Shikamaru responds with "Hey watch it when you punch him while I'm using shadow possession you are punching me too". My guess is that in the case of your clip he releases the jutsu before the shurikens reach and they both essentially dodge backwards while one dodges into the wall. Shadow stitching is a completely different skill so not really bound by the same rules as shadow possession and he also uses the shadow strangulation jutsu on Hidan so that they could stab him and cut his head off without him feeling the pain. I think it's supposed to be one of the con's of shadow manipulation that he would also feel the same physical force / inertia as the punches and hits, but I can't really say.

that's just not true? Unless there is a part where that's explained that i've missed in multiple rewatches. Shikamaru uses his shadow possession in OG Naruto to have someone else infict self damage by knocking her head into a wall while he is fine because there is no wall behind him. If it worked like you said, he would have knocked himself out too. There is another fight where threatens to have someone stab themselves since he has no knife in his hand while the shadow possessed person does have a knife in their hand. It's his clans woods, Shika literally translates to deer, which is why we're often randomly shown deer when the story is focused on Shikamaru and his clan(Nara). When Rock Lee needed to have his surgery the Nara clan also provided certain medicinal resources only found within their forest. Basically Shikamaru is saying he led him to an area that his family line will watch over forever to make sure Hidan can never be put together.

Her mind transfer jutsu is pretty cool actually, but not suitable here, so the next best thing to do is to not get in the way and potentially make her team lose their healer which is ultimately worse than her not joining the fight.

To be fair to Ino (though I'm not a big fan of her character as written) Her jutsu are not at all made for combat, especially not against mentally strong opponents like the Akatsuki. They are really meant for espionage and interrogation. Other than her mind jutsus, she has medical ninjutsu, which is also not suited to combat and means she has to stay out of the fight as much as she can because if she gets got, she can't heal her squad which leaves them at a disadvantage.

Also, the the woods belong to Shikamaru's family. They mentioned it in OG Naruto when Tsunade came to the village. Tsunade told Shikamaru's dad she would be counting on them for their medicinal deer antlers from their land. The Nara family has that land where they keep a bunch of deer for medicinal purposes essentially. It wasn't a convenient plot point it's been in the story since OG Naruto.

Jack, if you punch Hidan while Shikamaru is doing shadow possession jutsu, he feels the punch. If you cut his head off you cut off Shikamaru's head as well lmao. You'd have to time it to just when he lets go of the jutsu which would be risky since he could dodge and turn the fight around.

I lowkey agree with the Jack Take. Kakuzu was HIM. I was expecting some big type of cinematic endboss fight lol. Besides that hiccup this whole arc and fight was peak. First watch I didn't really like hidan either but the rewatch made me appreciate him way more. His personality makes him stand out more compared to the other akatsuki. I know what you mean, and I’m a Kakashi fan. But the three of them (Kakashi, Ino, Choji) almost died before Naruto and Yamato appeared, Kakashi also almost died if Hidan didn’t stab himself in time. I get Kishimoto wants to make those times more thrilling, but it would have made more sense to make Kakashi think about Kamui when he is on the verge of death. I almost forgot that he had this ability.

Sometimes I feel Kakashi is nerfed. There were so many instances when he could’ve used his Mangekyo. I know he has chakra issues, but it doesn’t make sense that he never even considered using it during the battle. When Kakutsu was holding Kakashi and trying to take his heart, Kakashi should’ve tried to use Kamui, instead of waiting for Shikamaru. Basically that ability is just too op, so Kishimoto bans Kakashi from using it most of the times.

I don’t think Hidan is as bad as you said. Kakashi’s taijutsu is way above Hidan’s, but fighting Hidan is hard because he has a menacing weapon, while Kakashi can’t even get scratched, so he has to be very careful when fighting Hidan. Hidan’s secret ninjutsu can almost kill any ninja that doesn’t know about his secret.

I would just have some animals eat the dismembered Hidan body parts. He would then continue to "live" through their digestion in many tiny pieces. Im sure there are other ways to PERMANENTLY kill someone as "immortal" as that trash of an Akatsuki wannabe. Lowest tier worthless member. I was always surprised that the Akatsuki even allowed him to join. He basically has nothing to offer besides not being able to die... and even that he cant really do properly when faced with a proper opponent. Hidan doesn't really excel at anything, he never showed any special elemental jutsu, his taijutsu is just average, so his only other gimmick is his one-and-done trump card where he can kill you if he has your blood, and even that takes forever for him to execute because of the ritual taking time. He cant mass murder anyone. He has no other useful skills. He can honestly be killed by any well rounded taijutsu user like Rock Lee no problem if Lee would just never let himself be hit by Hidan.

Not that yall were supposed to remember, but in part 1 Tsunade actually requests deer antlers from Shikaku (Shikamaru's dad) for a medicine. Shikamaru's name translates to "like a deer" "Shika" meaning deer. Almost every Naruto character's name has a meaning behind it. Kakazu means "bishop" and Hidan means "rook" both being Shogi pieces. If you look closely back at Shikamaru and Asuma's shogi game, Asuma identifies himself as the pawn and sacrifices the pawn to defeat the rook (Hidan) and bishop (Kakazu).

For me, the last scene always feels like there was no time or pages left in the manga to end the fight more spectacularly. But I think a real Naruto vs Kakuzu fight would have overshadowed the actual story of Shikamaru and his revenge. Since this arc went down in history as Shikamaru Shippuuden, I think it's actually okay, especially since we got a crazy animation for 80% of the fight

Dang, I was starting to worry about whether I had the wrong recollection of how dope that little speech Shikamaru gave Hidan at the end. When Brig said it hits harder in dub and then said the subs were different, I felt relief because while I only watch animes in subs, what they were looking at in this reaction was not the version I saw the last two times I binged Naruto. I really wish subs were much more accurate. It's like the whole "nakama" thing in One Piece. Subtle choices like that change the depth of your feelings about the scene. Still amazing though.

"I will pass down judgement" is pretty good imo, but "Im your god now" is tooooooo mf cold. like im a tride and true, til the day i die sub girl, but there are some scenes i want them to see in dub. like for example there is an episode coming up where i would maybe sell my kidney to watch them hear just one line of dialogue in the dub. its in the 130s. iykyk 😏

That deer isn't just randomly there. Shikamaru Nara's name has a connection to deer in Japanese culture. The name "Nara" refers to the Nara prefecture in Japan, which is famous for its deer. In the Naruto, Shikamaru's family owns a forest where deer live. I read somewhere that deer are also symbolic in Japanese culture, representing peace, and spirituality. I always loved that scene, especially where Asuma appeared because I love that background music so much. But favourite for me is always when Naruto shows up 💪

Shikamaru's family harvests antlers from their deer for medicine and probably for income. If you go back you can find multiple times where shikamaru mentions having to go grab antlers for his dad or tsunade. stuff like that.

You aren't going crazy. the animation does change every once in a while. Mostly scenes that are very fight intensive vs casual scenes. They become more fluid in big fight scenes. Shippuden used different animators based on the overall content of the episode. Much like OG Naruto, if you noticed the fight between Naruto and Sasuke was a completely different animation than the rest of the series.
