2025-01-10 10:16:44 +0000 UTCI think that is one of the things that makes Haikyuu the top choice for sports anime - the show literally is centered on the sport, it touched on life stuff but it didn’t muddy the central theme. It’s not the kind of plot line where the MC had a fight with a girlfriend and couldn’t focus and lost kind of thing. It’s volleyball first and foremost then a sprinkle of here and there. 😌

This is one of my favorite shows of all time and I can't believe they did us like that. While I liked the movie, it's just not the same. It's such a let down. But besides that, my feelings of vindication are at an all time high 😂. It's been my long standing opinion that anyone who loves and played sports will like Haikyuu. Even Mckay.... Speed is cool and amazing, but it can be beaten by other weapons. I love how open minded the Geks are. They are thinking of what might happen if the seasons are many, the guy/s will fall in love and maybe Hinata will transfer and Atsumu will be his setter. They are very open to new events. :> Anyway, My top 3 are 1. Hinata 2. Kageyama 3. Miya Twins/Tsuki (I can't choose between these)

2025-01-09 08:32:55 +0000 UTCI agree with you Mason, but for a second I thought this comment chain was an english lesson XD Even if they used that as an excuse, i never thought of “messing around” from the Miya Twins as something negative (heck idt Furudate, the author himself, even wrote for it to be taken as negative). In fact, it shows their love for the sport and respect for the opponent as the twins kept improvising new things and also had the expectations that the opponents will be able to follow them and not get left behind. Humans really think differently huh, after Miya Twins said that line, I actually grew to like them more and understand how much of an impact this match had on them for them to be letting it loose and trying out all new sorts of things. They were all having the time of their lives down there in the court and that’s all I could infer from their line.

The ost is called Monster’s Ball/ Banquet of the Monsters Haikyuu really uses this same main tune/motif alot and mixes it into different tracks, like in Above (The iconic Ushiwaka concrete scene) and Battle of Concepts (Shiratorizawa match last point), Winners and Losers etc. This same tune appeared right after Kags and Hinata blocked the Miyas freak quick. I really like the whole buildup to the whole set up to the last set up of Miya Twins, from when Daichi and Tsukki was getting up. When the drums went away with only the strings left is so telling of how the match was reaching its climax and thanking all the audience and members by ending it off w a grand finale. I really got so overwhelmed tears just started flowing haha 🥹 The flashing of “We don’t need the memories” at the last point is so symbolic, acknowledging the mistakes but yet having the determination to put them behind so you can focus on moving forward and progressing on your journey. Lastly, what I REALLY REALLY loved about this ost during the last point was that after Karasuno scored the point, and even after the match officially ended, the music kept going on and on, kinda signifying their adrenaline rush and that heat of their match wasn’t over yet. This was very different to the last points in our other main games such as with Seijoh and Shiratorizawa and maybe even more. I’m a music gurlie so I could keep yapping and yapping about the soundtrack in Haikyuu but I shall end it here :3 So…when we getting those Haikyuu OPs and EDs reactions?

You do it, I do it. We all do it. These are very human characters who also make mistakes. Just how you fail to realize you messed up until it’s too late, they do the same. All they can do is own up to it… lmao. they can’t go back in time do it over again. In the end, all they can do is acknowledge where they messed up—something Karasuno does literally all the time.

Also I love how in this season Hinata needed to "Take it easy" while Tsuki needed to "Take one more step". Take it easy was what Tsuki said to Hinata and Kageyama in S1 when they first met and "One more step" was what made Kageyama set to Hinata for the first time. In this episode when Tsuki blocks and Hinata's receives is the moon hiding the sun like an eclipse.

Also, what do you mean popularity started falling off the manga has been best-selling consistently despite ending 4 years ago, and the popularity is probably at its highest right now with the movie released last year. The reason they wanted to make movies was not because the publisher pressured them (I don't where you got that information from honestly) or anything it was just because they wanted to make more money.

I personally prefer sports anime to be more grounded and realistic so they can be relatable, while some prefer over the top hype and almost super power like abilities. Blue Lock and Ao Ashi are basically on opposite sides of this spectrum, with one focusing on a realistic representation of top level footbal strategy(Ao Ashi) and the other focusing on edgy phylosophies and hype super plays(Blue Lock). Both are extremely entertaining though. They both released around the same time and because of the Blue Lock hype Ao Ashi got completely overshadowed, but it's much more similar to Haikyuu in style and realism. Main difference being it focuses on a youth team of a pro club, so everyone there is already top tier players unlike Haikyuu where it starts of at a lot lower level. I never really understood soccer strategy and why top teams play the way they do until I watched Ao Ashi. The lessons it teaches about how to use vision and non-verbal communication are insanely good and applicable to any sport. One thing I especially liked is that the main characters regularly interact with actual pro players, and the show does a really good job of establishing what makes these pro players just be on another level when compared to the main cast, while also showing us the path to get to that level.

Furudate put so much love and thought into the characters and story, I have watched a LOT of sports animes and I definitely agree that none of them can top Haikyuu (Ace of Diamond is a really good second though). It's just unfortunate that everyone knows the budget is more than enough to adapt the rest of the manga into seasons instead of movies but it seems they're sticking to the latter.

Manga has so many great arcs still left behind that some questions or stuffs that you guys have mentioned unknowingly we cant even tell you or confirm it, i hope you give the manga a chance cause it is so well written. I have watched so many other sports animes, they just dont hit as much as haikyu does. those have great/hype moments but its not as well rounded and heart warming as haikyu makes you feel. It was a great fight to get you to watch haikyu and to see that you enjoy it as much as we do and even wants more of this, i am so happy for this

There are people in Japan and all over the world that don't even read manga or watch anime like that but know Slam Dunk. This story is singlehandedly responsible for basketball absolutely blowing up in Japan and all over Asia. Very very very many still consider it the best sports manga to this day and not even Haikyuu seems to budge them. The only issue is that the anime is not the best so if you wanted to actually experience this story just like Berserk you need to read the manga. But there is a recently released movie that ends the story and it broke all kinds of records.

What good is all of those story element if a show crashes and burns like GoT??? If the rest of the manga is adapted faithfully I wanna hear Brig's take again and see it can reach the status of some of his favourite stories despite it having a realistic setting. Also, what money do I need to pay for what tier so you guys read the Nekoma match in the manga? Would be interesting to see you watch Kuroko since you guys talk so much about basketball. I still wish we would get a remake of Slam Dunk cause, sure, the one we have is nostalgic but it does not do the absolute peak manga justice at all. There's a bunch of great ones I'd love to recommend but based solely on what I think the Geks would enjoy and get hyped over I think Kuroko no Basuke would be a really good next watch for them. It's not too long either just a few seasons and they get a movie to end off on with a bang. I'd also love to see them watch Slam Dunk, Ace of the Diamond, Hajime no Ippo etc, but Kuroko (I think) would really appeal to the guys and be fun to watch along with them.

The Geks have gone from disinterest and indifference at the start of the show all the way to pure hype, debating favourite characters ferociously and being genuinely upset that the show is almost over. Haikyuu fans knew from the beginning that you'd get there in the end. Haikyuu is such a difficult show to get people to watch but we all know the pay off is always there, so getting to see that pay off as haikyuu fans is such a joy for us. You boys are one of us now :)

Some of the things they say or do just are so cringe to me, when I have a quite deep understanding of the sport. And then the slideshow second season was the final nail in the coffin for me.

The top 5 by end of season 4 I would say is: Ushiwaka, Miya, Oikawa, Bokuto and Kageyama. You could make a case for Kuroo(who is the best middle), or Nishinoya and Yaku as Liberos, but I think those 5 are just on another level.

Slam Dunk is amazing, Hajime no Ippo(haven't finished it all cuz its so long) is also awesome, Kuroko no Basket is great, Blue Lock(at least season 1) is also great. But Haikyu just has something that the others lack for me. It is the complete package and it really shows what it takes to be an athlete the best.

Hinata is literally his ideal spiker, since he puts in 110% into spiking ALL the time, just like what Atsumu wants from his own teammates. Him saying that he'll crush them at next year's Interhigh shows how highly he thinks of Hinata and Kageyama and Karasuno as a whole. Their schools will never play against each other officially outside of Nationals, so he's saying that he expects Karasuno to be at Nationals next year too so they can play again. Coming from one of the best high school setters in the country, that's saying smth. Whew. Kita... Always makes me cry. For him and for his team, even if I don't love them nearly as much as other teams. His soft but firm discipline, and his way of taking things in stride and not obsessing over the results is just so memorable. The twins, troublemakers as they are, do hold him in very high regard, as does the rest of the Inarizaki team. Their expressions when they promise to live up to Kita's expectations of them even in the future, after he's left, never fail to invoke bittersweet feelings. Even if y'all don't really vibe with Inarizaki as a whole, you gotta admit that the still have their admirable traits. Last but not least! The OST that plays at the end of episode 25 is the first season's OP, Imagination! When I first heard it, I was so shocked because of how much nostalgia I felt. It just reminded me how far Haikyuu has come and how far I've come as a fan of the series myself. Gave me chills! I'm so excited to see y'alls reaction to the movie. It's gonna be a WILD ride!!

2025-01-08 09:37:43 +0000 UTCIt’s also very satisfying character development - first Hinata wanted nothing more than to be on the court and spike (get someone to feed HIM the ball), then he appreciated being the ultimate decoy so others could spike while being on a team (still in the spotlight, but aware of other roles and willing to cede ~epic moments~) then he had his IT moment while receiving the ball during a defensive play (ergo very much a support role in a team.) You see him experience so much while he is expanding his horizons through the games and positions and his growth both as a volleyball player and character is incredibly satisfying. I hope some studio animates the rest of the manga storyline because imo Hinata has the most believable and satisfying character development arcs in a shounen series.

And I love that it was Tsukki who narrated or said that they weren’t surprised it’s Hinata and Kageyama who blocked and that they know the quick attack isn’t invincible bec it Tsukki who competed with Hinata and Kageyama first (3 on 3) where they discovered the freak quick/became the weirdo combo 🥹 Tsukki had the strongest feelings about the quick out of everyone 🤣

The movie cut out A LOT of great moments because they cant include everything in a span of over an hour. I took it upon myself to note down all things that were cut out after rereading that match twice inbetween my 2 times rewatching movie in the theaters. I wont list all the problems I had with it cuz spoiler but Im glad that it worked out for you I guess.

I love it, I had a wonderful fandom experience when it was airing (especially with the launch of the musicals, there was sooo much content) but would I recommend it to a reaction channel in 2025 where the reactors are not very keen on sports anime? Lol no. (Maybe for a drinking game lol.) If they wanted to check out a tennis anime, I would recommend Baby Steps, but idk how they would be with the romance in it.

2025-01-08 08:54:18 +0000 UTCAnd ofc, how can we ever forget Hinata's legendary moment. He literally SAVED the team by doing that high bump to give everyone on his side time to catch their breath. This scene always always gives me the chills. It's the culmination of all the embarrassment and hard work he had to go through during the training camp in season 4, and all for this one moment, where Furudate spins one of the best throwbacks to a previous arc and ties it all up perfectly. I love this scene so much. More details about that final point they scored: Tsukki's monologue at the very end of episode 24 is both iconic and holds a lot of meaning in Haikyuu. When he says that speed is a very very powerful weapon, he's referring to the quick that the twins did against them at the end, AND the quick that Hinata and Kageyama uses. But more specifically, the old quick that they eventually scrapped and remade. Why? Because, if you realise, when Atsumu sets the ball to Osamu, he says "This position... This timing... This angle.... It's perfect!", which is literally, bar for bar, what Kageyama said when they used their old quick against Aoba Johsai in their first official match against each other and LOST. The significance of this scene paralleling with our duo's first loss in an official capacity is HUGE. They are essentially facing their old selves, when they still believed that their freak quick was invincible. But by season 4, Hinata and Kageyama, better than anyone else, know that this is far from the truth. Their quick is NOT invincible, just like they learnt in season 2 and beyond. But BECAUSE they know this, they are the only two who were able to remain calm even when this terrifying weapon was being used against them in the final points of this crazy match, and they not only managed to block it TOGETHER, but also WIN the entire match off it! This ties back in to Tsukki saying that "Speed is a very powerful weapon. But it's not invincible. They knew that a little better than everyone else.", because how else could they have pulled off that block if not for their devastating loss from before and the experience that came with rebuilding their quick. It's very telling of Furudate's story-telling to be able to parallel and connect these two matches with each other. Inarizaki lost the EXACT same way Karasuno lost to Aoba Johsai in the Interhigh games, and it's just so poetic that they won by defeating the old weapon that they cast aside but was used against them after that. This is PEAK writing. More fun facts: the scene where we witness the ball fall to the ground right on the line is shown through Kita's eyes. Many of us fans were really emotional because of that, as we're basically watching this amazing character, who was introduced to us only 4 episodes ago, lose his hopes of winning nationals with his team. This was Kita's LAST match as captain of the team and as an active player for once. Literally made me shed tears JWHBHJB Also, sometime before this insanely long rally, Yamaguchi's mentor, who's in the stands, said that since Osamu is in the back row, there won't be a twin's quick, but lo and behold, they actually did it. And this was the FIRST back attack these twins tried, on the LAST point they might score in this game. So, they're kinda crazy for taking such a huge risk and going through with it.

Hinata and Kageyama do have a special partnership, but as the Olympic coach in the series says, Hinata knows that Kageyama is not the only setter who can set to him. Before season 4, Hinata was stuck in a rut because he couldn't do anything on the court without Kageyama, specifically. But he can now. Which is why his blind faith in his setter has sort of evolved into a conscious belief that even if Kageyama messes up sometimes (like he did at the end of the last episode), he will still have a set come to him anyway. Hinata's attitude on the court, as we see from the part where he jumps without telling anyone and surprises Kageyama in the process, is basically "Well, there's a perfectly good opportunity to attack right here. It doesn't matter if you're blindsided by my decision or not, you'll still give me the ball that I need, right?" In simple terms, Hinata is unintentionally forcing his setter to match his pace, and because he's completely genuine while doing so, Kageyama is once again pushed to keep up with his insanity, and he does, because he got him the ball. Atsumu, in this case, says "You have my condolences, Tobio-kun. That's one scary partner you got there." As a genius setter himself, Atsumu can tell from just that one play who is actually leading who around by the nose btw these two. Obv, as Grandpa Ukai says, it's the spiker that has the initiative when it comes to spiking, so it's Hinata, who constantly finds new ways to keep Kageyama on his toes. Atsumu is basically empathising with Kageyama, because as a setter, having a spiker who always expects them to give them the set that they want or need and FULLY believing it will happen is a HIGH standard to have to live up to. And considering both Kageyama and Atsumu's personalities, ofc they would want to live up to that standard, even at the cost of being stressed each time their spiker jumps them with some unexpected move. This is the conclusion that he made, as honestly, it's a very miniscule detail that most people miss or are confused by haha! Tsukki's "So, you'd better be there." always makes me so happy. He's grow so much from before when he didn't trust or depend on any of his teammates. Hinata being the one to pick up that ball is just amazing. It took both of them to shut down Suna's quick, and it's so poetic how this ties into Tsukki's AND Hinata's development at the same time.

I feel some of these wouldn't be great for Patreon/YouTube, but would be fun for the watch parties or something 👀

Same happened to basketball in the 90s through Slam Dunk and go through Hikaru no Go - and with Hikaru no Go not just the resurgence in Japan, but putting go on the board on a global scale. The Chinese and Korean Go Associations had an insane increase in numbers when that story came out.

Then Koganegawa (Date Tech) He'd learned about it from observing Hinata teaching Hyakuzawa that. Later, he joined Hinata in observing Kunimi when he was playing lol Then, camera showed Hyakuzawa the 2meter guy who Hinata personally "taught" the idea. He must be happy watching Hinata doing that in that match! Then the Johzenji coach who seems to have a soft spot for Hinata and knew what Hinata did for Hyakuzawa during First Year training camp.

Him letting Suna hit that spike, narrowing the path of the ball knowing Hinata would be there and confident that Hinata will get that ball. He is the only one from Karasuno who personally saw the growth of Hinata during that First Year Training camp. What Hinata has shown from that awesome receive he made in that match has given Tsukki that confidence. The receive that Kageyama vehemently denies seeing LMAO.

2025-01-08 04:06:07 +0000 UTCThere’s an American football anime called Eye shield 21, it’s a fan favourite from the 2000s. Kuroko no Basket and Slam dunk are too great basketball series. Slams dunk is one of the best selling manga of all time but has a very old anime from the late 90s. Kuroko is a modern anime that’s not as deep or realistic as haikyu, very over dramatic, but so hype and a fun watch. Would recommend, it’s complete with only 3 reasons. But yeah, there’s basically an anime for every well known sport.

It was a rocky first 8 episodes in S1 for the boys but now 4 seasons in, everyone is singing a different tune especially McKay. Oh what a character development that was!! Like it has been said in a few interviews were they were asked why we don't see more of this and that and Furudate is just "I thought people wouldn't be interested in that!" Oh how wrong you are 😭 There is a light novel though that follows that aspect a bit more, but is not by the original author. I personally have not read it, but I've read some reviews and it looks like is good.

The prince of tennis is a famous one Eyeshield 21 is about American football There are swimming, track and field, cycling, golf, basketball, badminton, other volleyball, ice skating, diving, gymnastics... There is just so much even for sports that don't exist, traditional Japanese sports too and board games like Shogi. Anime is so broad you can actually go one genre at a time lol

My favorite seasons, in order, are 2, 4, 3, and 1. I don't hate season one at all, but compared to the hype of 2 and 4, the build-up of 1 is okay for me. I have tried finding other sports anime, but none feel as good to watch as this. I have even tried watching a golf anime because I absolutely adore playing it, but the animes I have watched make a complete mockery out of the sport, and it only took two episodes for me to drop it out of pure anger and frustration. I could only dream of a golf anime to even touch the toes of this peak anime. Looking forward to the reaction to the movie, despite it leaving out one or two scenes from the manga, overall, it was a magnificent adaptation..... I only wish they made only more season instead of one final movie after The Battle at the Garbage Dump!

I loved both shows in season 1, but after every season, rewatching season 1 becomes better and better, and the same can be said for every season. The shows just build so well on what they've already established and it just feels like very tight story writing, there is almost no scenes/arcs that don't serve a specific purpose even if you dont realize it until 1-3 season later. I think for both Haikyuu and AoT the writers had most of the story and the character arcs/growth/flaws planned out very early and it stays consistent throughout. I also think that's why there isn't even more Haikyuu. Like I think everyone who watches Haikyuu agrees they would love to see this show going on forever if it keeps up this quality of writing, but that becomes harder and harder as you expand the scope of the story. So while I'm sad there isn't going to be another 10+ seasons of Haikyuu, I can also understand why the writer chose to do it this way. Also about the manga, not going to spoil anything but wanted to give some clarity on the chapter count and how much the anime has adapted, so if you'd rather not know things like that dont keep reading. The manga ended with a total of 402 chapters, and season 4 ends at chapter 292, meaning there is quite a lot of story left to tell. When they announced the final 110 chapters would be adapted in only 2 movies, I think everyone was a bit disappointed, but with how good the first movie was I have high hopes for the final movie. The first movie is already out now, and the final movie which will be the end is still to be announced.

Cannon had me laughing with his facial expressions and then I lost it when he said, "Are those his cheeks?!" I am on chapter 55 in the manga and I feel like for the most part it follows the anime with some slight differences. But, I expect to see some stuff we didnt see in the anime in later chapters. I honestly hope that they surprise us and do more movies or seasons. And yeah, I could see this being more slice of life and would love to see their later years. That's why I'm reading the manga because I hope to see later years if there are any. This is my biggest thing with animes. I feel like they don't always finish them right. They do that a lot with slice of life. But Haikyu is popular so I'm surprised they didn't do more seasons.

The skepticism was real for you guys, "it's just volleyball" was mentioned more than once. Skip to now and you guys are showing so much passion for these final moments in game and so much love for so many characters. Comparing them to other greats from GOT and AOT. Crazy how a show thats "just volleyball" can create so much hype, especially for Brig it seems as he related to so many moments in the show himself. 2025-01-08 02:40:06 +0000 UTCYou guys were really going thru the Haikyuu experience at the end lol Not being able to pick a top 3 characters, wanting more of the series, yeah been there done that lol Regarding the desicion of doing movies instead of seasons, it's a major shame, but I guess Demon Slayer taught the production teams that movies leaves more earnings than regular TV seasons 😭 It's sad bc as much as I love the dumpster battle movie, it suffers from the time restrictions and a lot of things were cut off. They confirmed the project "Haikyuu The final" to be 2 movies and the dumpster battle is one of them, respectfully, there is no way to adapt what's left in 1 movie, unless it's like 3 to 4 hours 🫠 Either way, read the manga since vol 1, it's definitely worth it ❤️

The others that come close are Ace of Diamond and (unexpectedly) Yowamushi Pedal. I'm also about 200 episodes in to Prince of Tennis, I wouldn't really recommend it as of now. Hoping the newer seasons are better.

By far, watching along with Studio Gek has been my favorite compared to any other reactors I’ve watched Haikyu with. Sad we won’t be doing it anymore! All we have is the movie now :’( With the end in mind, for your next sports anime I truly think y’all would enjoy watching Ace of Diamond! Hope you guys can give it a shot. It’s a criminally underrated show that deserves more love and attention.

I go back and reread the final arc OFTEN (and will probably do so after this video because I’m hyped about Haikyuu again lol). I hope every day that they go back and make another season after the next movie and end the series right. I will be heartbreaking if certain parts don’t get animated and it gets rushed at the very end for no reason.

2025-01-08 01:31:54 +0000 UTCGiven that you guys are always talking about basketball, I’d really recommend reading slam dunk’s manga. It had a lot of influence on haikyuu. Kinda like dragon ball with the big 3. I think haikyuu is better overall, but imo there’s a match in slam dunk that’s better than any single match in haikyuu. And that’s by a decent margin. Only caveat is that the first 30-ish chapters are mostly focused on the comedic aspect. So, if you don’t like its comedy, that’ll really affect your experience with the series.

Especially since it was originally stated they would do a season 5 then backpedalled. That being said,,,,, this movie coming up does cook. So happy you enjoyed this show! It is a masterclass in character and relationship writing, and somehow makes hype better than most battle shonens that have powers.

During the Olympics last year the Japanese Olympic team were playing one of the Haikyu theme songs too! The creator Furudate must sleep so well at night knowing he created a masterpiece that inspired so many people to play a sport

And the things you feel are slow at the beginning only get better On a rewatch. I remember rewatching from season 1 and watching Tsukishima more closely and before on the initial watch I’d just ignore him but seeing him slowly get into it during s2 and then the payoff in s3 is just so good. I wish I could rewatch this show for the first time again. It’s one of the ones I wanna wipe my memory and rewatch like AOT.

It’s what Kageyama thought the first time he did the quick with Hinata. It’s what he also thought during the losing play against Seijoh in season 1. Their speed, which they considered their greatest weapon, ended up being the thing to lose them the game. Then, this season, the phrase is repeated the first time the twins use their quick copying Hinata and Kageyama. And in a similar fashion, it’s repeated during their losing point. It’s so fitting that Hinata and Kageyama stopped them in that moment because like Tsukki said “it’s not invincible” and they know that better than anyone.
