It’s just when people compare the two shows by generalising them/ compare for the sake of popularity without giving credits to the uniqueness of the different aspects of the shows that gets me. As much as there are certain similarities, the beauty definitely lies on the differences of the two shows.

It definitely looks like a fun show. I can't deny that, but I've never been into these survival-type game shows, but I can see how people would enjoy it. I'm willing to give it a chance, but with these kinds of shows, I usually stop after the first season because I start losing interest due to repetitiveness or a lack of interest in the cast of characters. but who knows, maybe it's better than I expected.

Also as others have mentioned part of the reason it seems more theatrical is cuz it was originally a manga, but also honestly its not uncommon for the acting in a lot of J-dramas to come off more anime-esque still too And without going into anything from the future, in terms of whether there's any relation to Alice in Wonderland - yes, the names an intentional nod! People frequently think the girl at the end might be Alice, but Japanese speaking audiences know "Arisu" to be the Japanese pronunciation of "Alice" Also Alice in Borderlands manga (2010) and the live action (2020) both came out before Squid game (2021 - which to be fair, is also said to have taken a long time to get the concept off the ground, and was thought of in 2008), but neither created the death games concept! There's plenty of stories (like Hunger Games, for one) that follow similar themes. I think the only reason the two get pitted against each other so often is because they're both East Asian dramas that released around the same time, so while its a kind of fun compare and contrast, there isss a lot of contrast still

I’m a sucker for good drama and love shows/series where the acting and production of the overall show is of top performances and high quality. Which is what Squid Game delivers on and more. AIB on the other hand has games that are more complex. It is a fun little series and I do think you guys will like it though

There is definitely a play on the word "Alice" and the MC last name Arisu, if you read "Arisu" with a Japanese intonation it sounds like "Alice" As for the characters age that Jack kept wondering, the LA aged the characters up, so I'm not sure and I don't remember if they ever mentioned, but in the manga, these guys are still high schoolers lol I'm excited for this show!! Chishiya best character ✌️
