2024-11-13 08:05:34 +0000 UTCThe real reason Lelouch doesn't tell the full truth is pretty obvious, and I'm sure you guys already know this by now, but if not, it's because he truly believes he is responsible for Euphemia’s death, as well as the deaths of the Japanese people and even Shirley. In his mind, he is responsible for their deaths, and he chooses to take that burden on himself. Because there is no excuse that would save him, and I don't believe he wants to be saved or forgiven. And he also knows that Suzaku would've never been convinced, since he only sees Lelouch as a manipulator and a liar, and just tells him, what he believes to be the truth. He believes that, as the one who set these events in motion, the consequences are ultimately his to shoulder. He could've blamed the geass, but in the end, it was his decisions and choices that led him to where he is now. I also believe he thinks of holding on to that burden is his own form of punishment, or perhaps it's a punishment given to him by the Geass. In this last episode at the end, he talks about losing everything and everyone close to him and that this is a punishment that he deserves. This self-imposed/inflicted punishment mirrors Suzaku's character pretty well. As his whole character is about being able to redeem himself after committing a terrible sin, since he feels that he should've been punished for what he did to his father and by extension his country. But he wasn't and imposes his own punishment upon himself, death. However, Suzaku only wants to die in a very honorable way, since he believes dying this way would be enough as an atonement, and he also wants his death to be meaningful, to be seen as a sacrifice that serves a greater purpose, a hero's death. This is why Suzaku is so risky and puts himself into crazy dangerous positions. This is also why, when fighting Kallen, he gives up instead of using Nina's weapon. He knows that using the "nuke" would be dishonorable, especially given the devastation it causes. The deaths of millions of innocent people are a burden he can’t bear, and would rather die than continue down a path of destruction. By the end of the episode, both characters have lost. Lelouch lost his sister, his friends, and his army. Suzaku lost another opportunity to atone and fulfill his goal of dying and most likely his sanity because he just killed 10 million people with millions more who are wounded and why is no one in the anime talking about this??
