I wanted to add this about Tanaka. He’d always been one of my favorites also. They did fan voted tier lists before ssn 4 came out and he was in the 20s or 30s, I forget which. I couldn’t believe it. It was explained that he didn’t get the back stories other characters got but I don’t think that’s it. I NEED it to be Tuesday. We all know how ep8 ends. No, No one dies in Haikyu but we do lose Coach Ukai/ Va in real life.That line .. that delivery. It could have been any other line in the series but it was this one. Like fate had a hand in it all.Part of the lore of Haikyu now.I look forward to that moment as much as Tsuki. This is the best season of Haikyuu—so much emotional payoff and actually SEEING how powerful of a team they can be with their creativity. Like keep in mind this is Hinata's first year EVER playing on a proper team. He's insanely athletic and has this passion for volleyball that drives him to want to continue to better himself. We already know Kags is a setting prodigy but he's also quite early in his volleyball career. And of course we have the mental game with Tsukki.

I think you guys ought to know that the voice actor for Coach Ukai (whose name was Tanaka Kazunari) unfortunately passed away during the making of season 3 of Haikyuu. Season 3 Episode 8 was the last episode of Haikyuu (and possibly of all his projects) where he voiced Ukai's character. It devastated a lot of Haikyuu fans, since he was so good at bringing out Ukai's personality and also because his last lines were some of the most memorable in the entire Haikyuu anime. So, starting from season 3 episode 9, if you notice that Ukai's voice is different from what you're used to, it's because a new voice actor took over the role (his name is Egawa Hisao). Just a heads up in case you guys question things! But even if you don't (Egawa Hisao does a fantastic job and sounds pretty similar to the old VA's voice as well), Tanaka Kazunari deserves some recognition in light of the spectacular performance so far!

You're probably right that he doesn't make mistakes, it looks like it was just skipped over in the anime. I just saw this comment on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/haikyuu/comments/5cgdcg/comment/d9wm3x0/ I watched that part again to confirm the score, and also noticed that Ushijima served twice in a row in the last ep, so I think that clears up all our doubts :)

Yes! The difference is that Yamaguchi came in as a pinch server (serving until the other team wins a point) while in this case Suga was subbed in for Tsukki until the end of the set 4 and didn’t come in as a pinch server, so suga abides by the normal play/rotational rules :) The exception for normal players to keep serving is if they manage to score a point using a service ace (E.g. Oikawa continuing to serve after getting a service ace off Karasuno in S2). For the point in this episode you’re talking about, Suga didn’t score a service ace, he served, the ball was received, and normal play went on before Karasuno won the point so rotational rules applied! But i might of course be wrong, and maybe Suga did come in as a pinch server? It wasn’t clarified tbh HAHA but furudate rarely makes rotational mistakes, I remember him making that mistake once and he had to delete and redraw that entire manga page spread.

I know sometimes the geks have talked about if Haikyu can place amongst some of the top animes if it doesn’t have the level of life or death stakes or depth as other shows, which is fair. But, I think a good way to qualify Haikyu as one of the goats is just how the show makes you feel. The big moments in the show are just so hype, and when I’m watching I’m smiling the whole time, and the humor/trope-y stuff actually makes me laugh instead of getting exhausting (sorry, looking at you, Naruto), plus Haikyu’s post-“commercials” recaps are kept pretty brief or even show new angles. For me, it’s a top 5 anime of all time for those reasons.

This is a canonic experience in every anime fan's life. Oikawa and Iwaizumi watching is great. I love how Oikwawa thinks he's disguising himself. Lol. His getup makes him stand out more. Great reactions! I agree that Karasuno is a good match up for Shiratorizawa. It was mentioned earlier, but Shiratorizawa has some intense training so that's likely why they aren't showing signs of being tired. Karasuno practices hard as well, but they haven't played a long match like this before. So their stamina is not quite as high, but they make up for it in determination. I'm excited for you guys to finish the season and see the outcome!

It's definitely because karasuno is a better match up for shiratorizawa than aoba johsai. Aoba johsai is skilled but "simple" as brig said (and it helps since they've met each other on court a bunch of times before so they know each other's play style well), but karasuno is a bit unpredictable since they're so new. Lovely reaction as always 👍🏼🥹

Idk if anybody else has this problem but I put the volume really high to be able to listen to everyones commentary + the anime but then get jumpscared sometimes when Carter’s voice comes through bc he’s closest to the mic 🥴 so not only for my ears but also bc I’d love to be able to hear Jack, Brig and McKay’s thoughts on the shows better…
