The black details on the players when Aoba lose is really great. Oikawaaaaaaaaaa's set up is unreal. He deserves all the love \m/ I love how Jack said Hinata gets better. Every player improve. Still, he needs to learn how to serve and receive. Excited for your jerseys, guys! Super excited on S3 and S4 (my fave). I hope you guys watch all s3 but I understand y'all are busy. :>

I personally don't mind Brig wearing Oikawa's jersey though lol jersey no 1! Carter, Daichi no 1! Cannon despite the joke of him = Tsukki, the closest demeanor to Tsukki between you guys is McKay.. Subdued. Chill. McKay = Kei Tsukishima? no 11. Cannon's GOAT is Iwaizumi no 4, but for Karasuno, Tanaka? No 5 Jack! Hinata ..? The underdog narrative is the most common trope in sport animes, so if you don't add anything extra on top of that to me the games dont feel special or unique

The whole' I'm gonna throw up' 'my hands are so wet' and all the excitement of being at the edge of the seat is so relatable. Even through I watched this season in 2019 I still have chills. I feel like this is what makes Haikyuu more exciting than some battle shounen. Unlike in other anime, the rules of volleyball are set. There is no divine power, some expectant plot twist or a saviour to come and win the game. Like there is Gojo or Kakashi to save the day, or a way to run away and bend the rules with magic food pills and stuff. Just your team and the ball. On the other hand, this is no life and-death situation though haha. However, some of the characters being third years adds so much urgency. I ADORE this show. For making everyone feel so many emotions in a realistic and grounded reality. It's a perfect recipe for a motivational show, it makes you want to work harder since everyone finds a character they relate to so much. P.S. I am currently every day in a training room for a national dance competition right up until 3 am with my crew, so the whole episode hit even closer to home. Makes you want to enjoy every second of training spent with your crew

The words that the coach said to Oikawa is one of my favorite lines in all Haikyuu. "Have you found the limits of your abilities?" I printed it and hung it on the wall (among other quotes I found inspiring) to see it first thing as I wake up. It's so simple and deep at the same time. Same goes for Oikawa's "Talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish". This anime was a pure motivation for me😅

2024-10-25 09:11:51 +0000 UTCSome fun facts in episode 24 that I've pick up from other great observers in the fandom over the years I've watched Haikyuu: Jack and Cannon are totally right when they say that the last point that Hinata got was the exact same set up as when they lost to Aoba Johsai the last time. Not only that, the animation of Kageyama's legs coming into frame, the backward set that he does, and even the block is all identical. Everything is the same, except. Hinata isn't closing his eyes. And yes, the reason they won, despite Oikawa reading the spike, is that Hinata got better at aiming his spikes. It's amazing how they paralleled this last point with the last point of their previous match with Aoba Johsai, which ultimately cost them their victory, but cemented it this time. Every single player on the court for that last point touched the ball in some way. Whether it was Suga, Tanaka, Iwaizumi or Oikawa. It was truly a poetic last point since everyone gave it their all. Most importantly, when Oikawa does his super long set from outside the court, he gives the ball to Iwaizumi, his best friend and teammate since they were little children starting out with volleyball, and reiterates what he monologued to his teammates and himself before the timeout was over (the thing about talent possibly blooming at an unexpected time or age, but that if you don't believe it will, it will probably never happen). The chills it gave me when he said his famous quote "Talent is something you make bloom. Instinct is something you polish." always, ALWAYS leaves me in awe. Of his character, of his hard work, his drive and determination to do the best he can do and pull off an almost impossible move despite not being one of the "geniuses" that he's always chasing after. Everything he did in that last point was him pushing himself to his limit and "trying everything he can" before comparing himself with the true geniuses. In that respect, he MADE his talent bloom in that moment when he pulled off that insane set, because he BELIEVED in himself for the first time instead of despairing at the limitations of his ability as a player. This is the start of his journey in volleyball, some argue. But either way, he is a damn good player, and his team deserved to win every bit as Karasuno. I could yap a whole ass essay about the symbolism in episode 24 alone, but I'll spare you guys from an even longer comment. All in all, amazing reaction. I can't wait for y'all to see season 3!!

2024-10-25 09:04:08 +0000 UTCThis is just a small detail but the one who saved the ball when Kyotani (Mad Dog) touched Yamaguchi's jump serve and it almost went out was actually Iwaizumi, not Kindaichi HAHA! They can just mixed up sometimes because of the angle that we see the save from! Cannon was right haha! Oikawa shedding his usually cheery and almost carefree exterior in this last set always makes me feel so bittersweet. Him breaking his composure after missing that dump that Kageyama threw in their faces really got to him and reminded him of his failure to surpass his most detested rival. But then he regains this calm, almost laser-focus and suddenly he's the scariest man on the court again. Truly, he's a force to be reckoned with. The chills the fandom gets from season 2 episode 24 will forever be a point of obsession for any avid Haikyuu fan tbh. The animation, soundtrack and intensity all shoot up in this episode and it's always a sight to see you guys cheering and yelling

2024-10-25 04:10:58 +0000 UTCsome Seijoh team name lore w my minimal japanese skills XD What furudate really likes to do is to have a play on words w team names and birds/animals are usually a motif in the show Karasuno: karasu/烏 means crow Nekoma: neko/ 猫 means cat Fukurodani: fukuro/ 梟 means owl Shiratorizawa: shira 白, tori 鳥 means white bird aka eagle Well, so on and forth, and these might be stuff yall alr know, but for Aoba Johsai, their mascot is not a bird or an animal but actually a tree (if you google oikawa official art, you might find oikawa in a tree costume LOL) but anyways: 青(blue) 葉 (leaf) 城 (castle) 西 (west). Aoba together means fresh leaves, but Aoba Johsai together actually means west of the blue castle, aka Aoba castle, which is based of a real life castle in Sendai!! There could be many interpretations of this name, with the mascot of Seijoh being a tree? It could symbolise them being very grounded and calm and could also signify the time and effort oikawa took to gradually grow from a seedlings to a tree to catch up to the “talent” of his “genius” peers. And well, as we know Oikawa’s nickname is great king and their banner is “Rule the Court” which could symbolise Oikawa’s role as a commander and Seijoh as the knights/warriors

The development, the parallels, the payoff, everything feels so earned and it makes watching karasuno win that much more satisfying. And yet there’s still a twinge of sadness for oikawa. He’s the “enemy” we were all rooting for and he absolutely deserved to play at nationals. As much as I adore the other seasons, season 2 will always be my favorite. He's even helped Kageyama overcoming his obstacle in this season. I also believe he lets Kageyama learn from him when they were in Junior school. Kageyama is more of an annoyance to Oikawa. Oikawa's nemesis is only Ushijima.

Brig, if you guys watch yourselves watching Haikyu and compare yourselves watching other shows no matter how brilliant the story plots are.. Haikyu is different! It brings out that high emotion in you no other/rarely other shows can. It's visceral. This is coming from someone who's watched decades of TV shows and once considered herself a TV aficionado lol That's why Haikyu is my favorite. There are so many great lines in the show that are so inspiring too including the last one here by Oikawa about possibility of reaching your potential/success even at age 30... and that "talent" quote which so many have mentioned here lol

2024-10-25 01:41:12 +0000 UTComg i'm so glad you've been putting respect on all of seijoh's names fr. kindaichi is an underrated player. oikawa is literally insane. iwaizumi is the perfect ace, like coach ukai said, he has both power and technique. makki and mattsun (the other third years) are crazy all arounders. kunimi, tho he hasn't been in much this game, is super intelligent and knows when to conserve his energy and when to go all out. mad dog even if unpredictable is a force to be reckoned with. watari (libero) has served as inspiration for nishinoya. they're genuinely really underrated as a team, they're all solid, intelligent players. they're honestly my favorite team on the show, they're all so compelling and they genuinely feel like they're all close friends and like each other a lot from what we do get of them. they're even able to integrate mad dog into their bond despite all the chaos because of their off and on court chemistry.

2024-10-25 00:27:27 +0000 UTCno i totally get you. to me, the aoba johsai rivalry has a lot more emotional stakes in them which is what makes it so interesting. all of the characters on seijoh are compelling too, mostly oikawa/iwaizumi. the only emotional build up to shiratorizawa was ushijima, and even that lacks a little. i like shiratorizawa as a team, they were screwed over by the anime adaptation though (SPOILER: characters like semi, shirabu, taichi and even washijo got a little bit more fleshed out in the manga) and //spoiler// inarizaki too, but aoba johsai will always have my favorite matches because of the character writing.

Students with good exam scores and great curricular achievements have a better chance getting a place there. Especially ones with exceptional curricular achievements. Between Aoba Johsa and Karasuno, I think Aoba Johsai students generally are better in academics than the public school Karasuno. Between Shiratorizawa and Aoba Johsai, Shiratorizawa has better facilities it seems. It maybe is harder to get into Shiratorizawa. Higher level of exam difficulty or higher exam scores needed to get in that school. In my country we also have exams to go into better academic high schools. Either Mad Dog was good in exams or barely passing the qualifying levels to get in lol OR he passed the extrance exam well but just went "Mad Dog" only in volleyball matches just like how Kageyama was super intense and rude in volleyball matches before he joined Karasuno. If Aoba Johsai is a good team who have smart players, why did they lose to Shiratorizawa every single time? It has been 3 years for Oikawa. (6 if include 3 yrs of junior high) That's 5 high school tournaments. Not 6 because Oikawa's team lost to Karasuno in their last match. We'll have to see and find out 😁

Kinda get the hype of the match, but for me the stories of the characters are less interesting, and Ushiwaka is a big aura guy, but beside that I don't found him particulary interesting, he to me is not as good as main rival of the opposite team as Oikawa is in terms of storytelling, and on the volleyball side of things I think Oikawa still more epic since he does a lot of different things

Kageyama also mentioned he needed to find ways for Hinata to have more successful attacks/spikes. Matsukawa/Mattsun noticed Hinata's patterns of attack remember? Also if you noticed, Mattsun will be always on Hinata's heel. It's being shown a few times in this match. - Aoba Johsai is a team of thinkers. Especially the 3rd Years. Also refer to Kageyama thinking Mad Dog was smart because he replaced Kunimi. Haikyu kept mentioning that Aoba Johsai is a team of thinkers since their Inter High match. Even the coach said it. The coach just observes since the team would discuss and come up with the solution to the problem themselves. He would come in if the team needs help only. Which is rarely.

At the 23:24 point mark Hinata swaps with Nishinoya because Nishinoya is about to enter the front, hence why its tsuki's serve and tsuki isn't technically a great option on the back court as he doesn't attack there so they go for a more aggressive play by switching Suga for the serve and doing a 2 setter play. just to clarify usually when tsuki serves and they lose the point tsuki immediately gets subbed of for nishinoya this is an automatic and unique substitution between middles and liberos, you can actually only forcibly substitute people up to 3-5 times a set depending on what comp it is.

I love the "little twist" that they did with the true nature of Kageyama and I liked too how they developed Hinata to be more than the guy who jumps high and spikes, but at the same time, I found Hinata super annoying in the development campus that the Shiratorizawa coach did, the training of Kageyama with Japan didnt hype me as much as I expected, and the match against the trumpet team (I dont remeber the name) was ok, but nothing special. Also the animation quality was a bit yikes (I know that the COVID messed up a lot the production of that season so it's not really fair to blame the studio for that)

2024-10-24 22:00:30 +0000 UTC*Spoilers* I know people love season 3, and Idk how good the movie was (havent watched it yet) but does anyone feel like me that this match is the peak of Haikyuu?, to me their rivalry against Aoba was always the best constructed and developed, much more than with Nekoma, since a lot of the narrative of that one comes from the past and things that in reality, or at least to me, don't have a real conecction with the present characters. It's not like I hate the rest of the anime or that I don't like it, but any of the matches that will come doesn't get any close to this one, this to me always feels like storywise should be the final match of the anime rather than another step to climb in the ladder. To me this season is like a 10/10 and the following are a 7/10 at best but no so much because they aren't good by itself, but because none of the games connect the story of both teams like the Karasuno vs Aoba does

"But if you think it'll never come, it probably never will." Ahhh my heart... 😭 To think that there are people who just hate him because he was mean to Kageyama smh. That's just ridiculous. He's such a complex and beautifully constructed character. I am so glad they didn't whitewash him like "oh yeah, he apologized to Kageyama" He remained grey. That's real life. You can feel his anger, his desperation, his inferiority complex, his pain. Even though he's portrayed to be an overall silly guy overflowing with pettiness, even when he's taking jabs at people, or "smiling", you can clearly see that it doesn't reach his eyes. The detailing on him is crazy. My friend told me that this was her favorite match of the whole series, and I was like "NOOOO!!!!" This one hurt so bad. I LOVE Karasuno! Nishinoya is my favorite character, but it was OIKAWA! 😭💔

Oikawa has (or had) an inferiority complex towards those who seemed naturally gifted at volleyball which is a gift he believes he doesn’t have. He thinks there are players that have a much higher ceiling than him no matter how hard he trains. Ironically, it’s this mindset that has propelled him to be at the level he is now and that last set to Iwaizumi shows just how gifted Oikawa really is!

I just wish while they are adapting it they kept the coaches' thoughts about Oikawa's amazing toss from the manga so I am going to write them here. When Oikawa does his amazing set we see Seijoh's coach Irihata saying : "I thought I had already been giving Oikawa high praise for his obvious talents... but it seems I still underestimated him" This was important because it was a call back to the time he said Oikawa is an efficient player but not a genius when you compare him to a player like Kageyama in season 1. And it is true he has been underestimating Oikawa but it wasn't just him Oikawa was also underestimating himself when he kept saying he couldn't do pin-point sets like Kageyama because he did it here. That was a perfect pin-point set and Ukai explains that in the manga : "He dropped that smack into the left-side slot. The width of the court. The height of the net. The feel of how far things are. His spatial awareness of everything on the court is probably so ingrained in him now it's on an instinctual level. That set was perfect!!" Then we get one of my favorite scenes in the whole show. Oikawa hitting the benches,getting up and saying the line "Talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish!". In one of his interviews, Furudate's editor said that Furudate does not see talent as a key to success. He quotes him: "Only after you give it your all and finish can you tell whether you have talent. So talent isn't something so simple that you can see in the very beginning!" He also said, "I don't know whether I have talent, so I draw and find out". With Oikawa, I think Furudate wanted to show this. He first introduced him as this amazing setter and then we get to know him and see that he is insecure about his abilities. In the first official match against Karasuno, before the last point, Oikawa says "Tobio, considering how fast you evolve I will probably lose to you someday, but not today" This Oikawa thinks him losing to Kageyama is inevitable because Kageyama is a genius and he is not. However this changes in season 2. Oikawa has his talk with that mysterious man and he completely changes his view. "Today might be the day to grasp the chance to let your talent bloom. Maybe tomorrow, the day after, or next year... Maybe even when you are thirty. I'm not sure if physique has anything to do with it. But if you think it'll never some, it probably never will." This Oikawa knows he is just 18, he hasn't hit his limit yet and he will continue to improve and make his talent bloom. His team losing to Karasuno does not change that. He is such an inspiring character. He has been working hard since middle school. That is six years of hard work without going to nationals even once. Still, he never stopped working hard and he probably never will. I am really happy to see Oikawa appreciation in the outro. I feel like in a lot of reactions he is kinda underappreciated. This is probably my favourite haikyuu reaction. Totally agree with Brig no matter how many times I watch this game, seeing Oikawa lose always makes me feel so sad and yeah Oikawa's set was definitely the play of the match. Anyways, I know this is such a long comment but I just love Oikawa and how Furudate wrote his character.

This is the back and forth action outside of all the build up and training and character development of different teams that people love about this anime with the music and slow motions. Its grounded in experiences that we understand so its easier to become excited and emotional compared to fantasy and its endless ways to fumble.

But that's alright, I ain't got nothing to do so I'm cool for another 30 minutes. 😂 That last volley is literally one of my favorite moments from Haikyuu. Oikawa setting the ball from way outside the court, his back hitting those chairs and tables and him just getting back up, desperately, made me go "OH. He's LIKE THAT." Hinata & Kageyama perfectly executing the new and improved god-like quick at the end made my heart soar, lol. So many great moments within these two episodes tbh.
