Yeah, some people get so serious and way too extra in the comments. I watch GoT as well as some people take things too personally if you don't agree with their opinion. I generally keep my comments pretty neutral. It's a shame they had to get on Carter's case. We are all going to feel differently about GoT. Im grabbing part of my comment from 1x19-20 to reaffirm why Toto is my goat. The second I started this show I immediately liked 2 setters (Suga and Tobio) then I met Oikawa, and I was literally mesmerized by his presence, no cap. Not only do I believe that if I was a Volleyball player I'd like to be a setter, but I find a lot of myself, personality wise, in a couple setters in the show, specially Oikawa. A lot of people miss how complex of a character he is bc they can’t see past his “childish and petty behavior” when there is a lot more to him. He is dedicated, passionate, hard working, he is ambitious and powerful, he has both a inferiority and superiority complex that work simultaneously, I love how strongly he feels his emotions and we get to see them. Just him accepting to give Kageyama a little bit of help here is a testament to how far he’s come. I love setters so much, and I love that the word is a lot more meaningful in Spanish "armador" it's exactly that , an orchestra's director, everything goes through them, they make every single player's ability come together for the symphony, and seeing Kenma in previous eps use that pretty big brain of his and Oikawa's mastermind is what made me fall in love with Setters. Oikawa has all my respect because while Kageyama and Kenma are geniuses with a lot of talent he’s earned it every step of the way.

well, the mangaka has said Kageyama and Hinata are friends, best friends even, and they understand each other best out of anyone else, but it's not a conventional type of friendship. there's rivalry and partnership within that friendship too, but it is a friendship. Oikawa is an incredible setter, and an all around good player. Ukai described him as probably the best all around player in the prefecture, but ultimately what makes him the perfect setter is his ability to bring out the best in his team while also pushing them to be better, both things go hand in hand, and for all of his complaining, he did actually give Kageyama insanely good advice lmao. he's the goat frfr

As much as I understand Kageyama's pov, I still can't agree with him, even 10 years later lol. He is being selfish for no reason. They practicing a new way of doing the quick doesn't mean they can't practice any other attack, it also doesn't mean they will stop doing their weird quick. Hinata wants to improve his own abilities to help the team more. He more than anyone realize that his weird quick lose effectiveness with teams of higher level. Lev was able to stop it in just a few plays, for example. Hinata, albeit very poorly worded, was just saying his concerns out loud and it always bothers me that Kageyama calls him selfish for that, but isn't your teammates personal improvement also good for the team? I've never play any sport competitive so maybe my vision is narrowed but I really don't see the problem. As Brig said, there is no better time to do something new but during practice time. Unfortunately Hinata got his idea shut down by 3 setters, so of course they will have the same opinion. One thing I like tho is that Ukai actually decides to take Hinata with his grandpa. Ukai is also a novice when it comes to coach so leaving something that's going over you to someone else is a huge step and he even learned something else to teach the other guys, like the tempo thing. I think I went all over places but yeah, just want to get this out of my chest haha. I'm so unbelievable excited for the next 2 episodes, they are about my favorite character in the whole show!!!

Love the reactions! And, Karasuno actually won the practice match againt Aobai Joshai. I love the training ARC! So, in answer to Jackson's question about them being the only one out of town thats because they are participating in the Tokoyo teams training camp. They mention before that when Karasuno started to not win as much, they lost a lot of the relationships they had for practice matches. So, Nekoma's coach was nice enough to let them participate in their training camp. I love watching the characters evolve. I was so excited to see Coach Ukai helping Hinata. I feel like he could have also helped the whole team, but I get why they mostly focused on Hinata since he's the one who needs the most work. I'm excited for Thursday's episode reaction!

I'm so glad that someone likes the more chill and downtime side of Haikyuu because it really does make you feel like you're getting new sides to some characters! "Everyone seems to be wholesome for the most part" That's the beauty of Haikyuu. There are no "enemies" like there are in shounen or action anime. It's a story grounded in reality, despite the slightly exaggerated abilities of the geniuses and athletic monsters. It's why so many people love Haikyuu! "Why isn't Dateko there?" To put it simply, Karasuno are the only team that have the privilege of joining the Fukurodani Academy Group's practice matches. The group consists of four strong teams from Tokyo (Nekoma, Shinzen, Ubugawa, and Fukurodani), and they play together for practice because their teams have had connections with each other that go way back when Coach Nekomata was younger. To get in, you need the invite of one of the teams in the group, which Coach Nekomata did for Karasuno. Dateko, being a team situated in the Miyagi prefecture, doesn't have the same long-standing connection with Nekoma(old rivals), so naturally, they don't get an invite and are not practicing with those teams! Also... Those predictions have me screeching

I completely agree also I also just love, love Kageyamas and Oikawas relationship, because it’s just so unique and deep. You can just really tell how Oikawa is like an idol to Kageyama, and everyone is calling Kags a genius but what does it say about Oikawa that a genius like Kags looks up to him? And the interesting part is that Oikawa doesn’t see it like that, for him Kageyama is a threat and who only gets better and better, while he has his limits. This just made my day a 100 times better))) Btw I don't think yall realize how special Oikawa is. He one in a thousand type of setter. Extremely self less in terms of Volleyball, smart, agile and ready to bring out the best out of the players even if it goes against his own potential. So I am glad that Kageyama listened to his advice since he is the best setter to be giving out them. I also think about what Carter said about this being one of the best training arcs ver is due to relatability. We don't have chakra or ODM gear in real life, but all of us have played a sport and handled a ball. This training arc is very grounded in reality and actually makes sense while also being a huge progress. All the ides to change (like Asahi's jump serve, Nishinoya's toss, etc) didn't come out of nowehere. We as viewer, just like characters, saw how these moves affected the game when the opponents did them. So it's really satisfying to see how those seeds of ideas were not only planted but finally started to grow

That Oikawa and Kageyama interaction will always be hilarious to me lol. I am glad everyone realized Oikawa said the same thing as the old coach Ukai. He really has that much knowledge sometimes people miss that. Carter saying this is his favorite training arc made me happy. Furudate really knows how to make training arcs enjoyable.

Yes yes! I was so happy hearing Carter express his thoughts about it! I think what makes Haikyuu’s training arc special is that it connects to us - they’re not out there trying to kill all the titans or mastering some ninja stuff, they’re high schoolers who are driven to be stronger in volleyball and we can related to that! The conflict was relatable and the whole vibe just felt so sincere 🥺

Yes yes, Dateko is in Miyagi like Karasuno- Dateko isn’t related to any of the Tokyo schools/teams and Karasuno was invited to the training camp the 4 Tokyo schools have bec Nekoma’s coach is friends/rivals with Coach Ukai (Grampa Ukai). That’s why Takeda-sensei was trying to get Keishin Ukai to coach the team in the 1st season, it’s bec his last name will help with connections.

im the opposite i was frustrated with everyone around him like why is no one willing to help him, it was supposed to be a time for training but somehow everyone was fine just staying stagnant and keep things the way they are also @marlon how is asking to be trained selfish? he's not saying he wants to do things on his own, he was asking to improve on the one aspect that costed a game they could've won. plus the timing of this was not during the tournament, they have around a month before the tournaments it's the perfect time to be "selfish"

I rewatched Haikyuu so many times and I even named my cats after Hinata and Kageyama 🤣 their fur is the same color as the character’s hair. Anyway, I just want to say how inspiring grandpa Ukai is to me, he is fit/active and surrounded by people, doing what he likes - volleyball and passing on wisdom to younger generations. 🥹 I want to grow old like that.

one little detail i loved about this whole conflict between kageyama and hinata is hinata being shut down immediately by 3 setters (ukai, suga and kageyama) because they see things differently. gramps ukai and oikawa saw the need for hinata to improve on his own because they can detach themselves from one specific position and looking at the stats of the game as whole. oikawa was even praised for bringing the best out of his spikers for that exact reason. another thing that i think factored into the conflict was the rush to get better whilst maintaining order within the team. everyone knew they were lacking but were kind of scared of trying anything new that will disrupt the balance they had going on, and only moved into action when hinata was the first one who showed his greed to get better. that moment with asahi lit fire under everyone's ass I also love this part of haikyuu because of how realistic it is, the emotion, the drama and the improvement the characters go through. the show could've easily went your usual anime route and had unrealistic attacks. they could've made hinata have unltra instinct and just senses balls immediately and called it a day. They showed realistically what that "freak quick" really was in real terms, we didn't have to suspend our beliefs, or do mental gymnastics to understand. that goes for a lot of plays that happen from here on out, gramps ukai kind of conditions you (especially if you don't know anything about volleyball prior to this) to pay attention to different plays rationally and to pay attention to what makes them special. haikyuu gets better the more you watch because it gets more complex and high risk as you go. (I love episodes 5&6 if you couldn't tell aha)

Such a small thing, but to answer Jacks question - Kenma calling someone over with his palm facing downward is just one of those particularly Japanese (/Asian) gestures (similar to Nami's money sign that was asked about before) and serves the same function as palm facing upward and beckoning someone over. Though come to think of it I do find it a bit funny it was noticed on Kenma in particular, because some people compare the gesture to a makineko's (the lucky cat figures and such) wave, and they are Nekoma afterall Also excited to see the upcoming camp reactions and watch some diff charas get a bit of spotlighting too! 👀

Because of Hinata's lack of experience & skill between the two, we accept him as the leader in the duo. This episode tells us, the leader in the attacks is.. the spiker. 20:30 I've read a clip of an interview with Furudate, the writer. Hinata & Kageyama are friends. I think he said "best friends who cares for each other" In this scene, Kageyama is being more careful especially after that weekend's practice matches, them being the worse there, he is concerned too about Spring Tournament but he made his decision on what he's able to see of them. Not willing to take chances like Hinata is. Which is unfortunate here. Kageyama is not a warm person. He's very blunt who just do not know how to socialize well. Hinata accepts Kageyama being like that. Just how Hinata accepts how Kenma is, an introvert boy. Hinata is actually Kageyama's first friend. What makes them bond is the love and drive in volleyball as we all can see.

i’ve only seen a few episodes but i think it’s pretty good so i wouldn’t mind voting for it. my issue with blue lock is that it has A LOT of inner dialogue, which is a trope the boys have complained about in the past. and the animation is a bit wonky lol. i hope season 2 is a bit better with that

i haven’t seen a lot of people talk about it but the animation of hinata’s and kageyama’s fight is so good and the movement is smooth. its such a little thing but i have to appreciate it every time. it looks like they rotoscoped it with how fluid it is but idk much about the animation process so i could be wrong

yeah so just some clarification for you guys, they'll probably explain it a bit better in the next few episodes, but this next part of the show, like the teacher said, is continuing the practice stuff. They have another week long training camp in Tokyo with Nekoma and those other schools. Nekoma and the other schools are in a group that always train together. The group is called the Fukurodani Training group, and the schools are Nekoma, Fukurodani, Shinzen, and Ubugawa. Coach Nekomata invited Karasuno to join them for the training camp. Schools like Date Tech and Aoba Jousai aren't related in any way to Nekoma, so that's why they aren't there. If Carter enjoyed this little training arc, he'll love the next one!

About Bokuto, tbh I don't see the reactions in the comments as serious. I see them as half joking. Also if you notice when hinata was getting grilled by suga, kageyama, and ukai at camp it was because they couldn’t understand his pov because they’re all setters and hinata is a spiker. Oikawa was the only one that mastered the understanding of playing for your spiker and seeing their pov because he’s the setter that gave a different pov that catered towards benefiting his player. I was just going to make a comment before watching this, that I really like all of GEKs reactions. I love Jack, Cannon and Carter's enthusiasm and Cannon even went to watch his sister's volleyball match and appreciating the sport. I love McKay's view and honesty and Brig's liking it too ! FYI aibou in Japanese is specifically used to indicate someone who's one and only to you. I personally think it weighs more than just as describing Kageyama and Hinata as friends/teammates (of course those things are also part of the "aibou" relationship). I guess that's why Yachi is really touched by the words which Hinata chooses to identify Kageyama's position.
