It's easy to assume One Piece is making fun of the character with the stupid design, but most of the time they're actually fully developed and respected characters, even when it's a whole group with the stupid design. One Piece just has everyone look silly except for the select few lol and they're entirely character specific. The non silly looking folks isn't the norm, it's the other way around in that world. I could go into more specifics, but it's hard to do so at the point they are at with One Piece on the patreon.

In contrast, Kuroko focuses on characters who are already at the top (the Generation of Miracles). These prodigies were the best from the start, but it led them to split up and join different teams because having no true rivals made them feel empty and lose interest in the sport. It’s a unique story where the characters are already at the top, and we see how that affects their passion for basketball and their attempts to rediscover their excitement for the game, unlike most sports anime, where everyone has 100% love and passion for the sport they play.

I mean like some else pointed out, the main characters get all the spotlight and shine while the rest are lacking in development and screen time. Which is very much a normal sports anime trope. So they’re easily forgettable. Also the storytelling is a lot weaker compared to Haikyuu, like it had a very one dimensional type of storyline. It doesn’t even take a deep dive into the sport ( basketball ) and why people enjoy playing or watching it either

I’m aware the gap between One piece & Naruto in Japan is very minimal - that’s why I said I suspect one piece will eventually pass the heights Naruto did from 2010-2020 but as of now Naruto does edge out one piece in terms of impact/popularity in Japan - internationally there’s not much to debate - Naruto certainly takes the cake 🍰

2024-09-26 18:24:23 +0000 UTCI’m watching Haikyuu for the first time with the Geks, and I would have to agree that so far although it’s been heartwarming and cute, it hasn’t topped any of my personal favorite sports anime. I prefer Hikaru No Go, Major, Prince of Tennis and Ace No Diamond. I really enjoyed Kuroko the manga, but the anime just didn’t do it justice for me. That being said Haikyuu is beautifully animated and the comment section/fans keep insisting that it gets so much better, so I’m open and excited to what’s to come.

2024-09-26 16:16:58 +0000 UTCImo the best thing to haikyuu is the pay off to these training arcs and how well established the character flaws and character growth moments are throughout the series. It really is still in the building stage of the story, and it just keeps getting better story wise imo, and it also does the thing where the earlier seasons become better on rewatches but on a first time watch you might not grasp a lot of what's going on and is being set up for later in the story.

Such as Plotline Character building you know so many more characters and they make them much more memorable, I watched haikyuu and Kuroko like 3ish years ago and the only characters I remember are the Generation of Miracles and the coach and captain everyone else is a blur. (Just my Opinion sorry)

Or check Trash Talk, Joey is a half Japanese and sometime talk abt popularity before anime became popular in west. I started manga and anime in 90s and watched Naruto first. Naruto was on par with OP but then fell off because of content (the war arc). Otherwise JUMP would ask Kishimoto to continue with the manga. Kishimoto was worn off. Even himself said that after 7 years he had better thoughts on the story that he wanted to redo that final arc. And it’s also not fact to say OP not the same height as Naruto in that decade. You can search the JUMP cover during 2000-2010, the most popular ones had the biggest picture on the cover. OP, Naruto and Bleach were the three manga occupying most of the covers. 2024-09-25 20:24:56 +0000 UTC@NP Japan’s #1 Voted anime of the past decade for a reason 🤷♂️, Naruto stopped airing in 2017 so of course it’s not as popular or talked about currrently but nothing has impacted the Anime scene/culture more than Naruto - love one piece as well and it will of course continue to widen the gap in manga sales as more & more chapters come out but I think it will at least take a couple more years for one piece to reach the heights Naruto Shippuden did from 2007-2017

This being said, don't get me wrong, I thought Lost was a fun and moving show, it's a great watch if you can get past what I consider to be it's flaws. I liked the flashbacks, and up to a point both the character interactions and the character developments felt amazing most of the time, everything being wrapped by the mystery of the island gave the show the needed context and a great hook. But what I say is pretty much a fact, the mysteries and premises were written with no prior knowledge of a how and why. At least in the first two seasons. This is probably due to the context of the show, prior to binge culture where the focus was on being in the top of the charts in terms of tv spectators and no planned ending. And this is personal and subjective but I found the reveals and plot twists disappointing. I also disliked how too many plot twists happened because of irl reasons despite it not making much sense story wise, and from what I can recall I felt that some character developments and plot twists were ass-pulls. Personally I could not maintain either my suspension of disbelief or interest after season 3. It's objectively a classic though, I understand why people enjoy it, but this kind of progression is not my cup of tea. Mangakas tend to improvise stuff on a weekly basis too but I guess their crazy minds and their grind mindset make it work out most of the time (until some moment, most often towards the end, where they start shitting the bed, probably because they're either exhausted by this point, or because the end of a manga simply means a lack of interest and they stop putting in the effort)

It offers you these great mysteries, promises to answer them but in reality it just improvises answers along the way and these answers always end up being disappointing. The opposite of Attack On Titan where the reveal of the mysteries leads to more kino. Here the mysteries just work as deceitful hooks. It's a show that is the product of it's time, fun at first but very frustrating later on.

For me it was great and if you develop a relationship with characters you will love to see them doing absolutely anything. Shippuden isn't a show you should drag, instead it is supposed to be watched more frequently, that would diminish the pacing problem

Naruto shippuden has great moments but is slow af in the first arc, not a fun watch I look forward to right now, I just know you guys won't enjoy it. Game Of Thrones is complete garbage in the later seasons, not worth it, should be dropped. Haikyu is just ok for a sports anime. There's so much better out there though (Yowamushi Pedal, Ippo and Ping Pong the animation for example are amazing)
