My Equipment

Although Gear is not everything and it's mostly about the person behind the camera, the right equipment will help you in more than one way. In this blog post I will talk about the gear that I use, and which impact it has for me, artisticly but also the practical side!

My camera: Nikon d750

I absolutely love this camera. It is a full frame, which was the best upgrade i ever did with my equipment! It has wifi, which can be used to navigate the camera via an app on your phone. And it has an Intervall function for taking self portraits, which I mainly use! But in my opinion, the lens is way more important than the camera!

My favourite lens: Nikkor 85mm 1.8 G

I really love the look of a high focal length. A high focal length makes the object in the photo look further away and creates an atmosphere of privacy, like you are peaking at the scenery from a distance. This makes fantasy scenes look more storytelling and authentic. It is hard to get a lot of scenery into the frame (or you have to stand very far away), so if you prefer to get lots of scenery into the frame you might consider a lower focal length, like 50mm or 35mm.

Both of my lenses are able to have an aperture of 1.8 f max. which helps me achieve the dreamy , whimsy look. If you don't really know what aperture means, I can write an in depth blog post about this, just let me know in the comments! :)

my second lens: Nikkor 50mm 1.8 G

I barely use this lens, because I prefer the look that my 85mm gives me, but it's nice to have a lower focal length as well, in case I have less working space. This is especially helpful for indoor shoots!

phone tripod

I can only recommend this little gadget for EVERY photographer who wants to have behind the scenes videos, but doesn't want to actively record. You can just put it on your flash shoe and put your phone in and hit record! That is how I record most of my behind the scenes videos! And it is super affordable!

Tripod

Then I have a tripod for my camera, which I only use for my selfportraits. t doesnt really matter which one you get, but I like this one because it is very lightweight :)

Filters

just lately I ordered my first filter, it's a black mist filter! I haven't tried it out yet , so stay tuned for a review!

Underwater case

and lastly, I purchased an underwater case a few weeks ago! I am so excited to try it out in two weeks, pray for my camera to stay drie :') I am SCARED

I will make an extra blog post about the underwater shoot!

I hope this blog post was interesting for you! Let me know if you have any questions or if this sparked an interest for a specific blog post you'd like to see in the future! <3

Comments

Thank you so much for sharing your insights. I am still shooting with a cropped frame and I would love to experience the difference it makes and also if it has an impact on the lenses you use. I cannot go higher than 50mm. I simply cannot step as far away especially as I am living in a low mountain range and often enough I shoot in kinda narrow places where I simply cannot go as far away. Sometimes even the 50mm feels too close. I also definitely need a phone tripod. Definitely my next thing to buy. I am looking forward to seeing the results with those filters! I often thought about buying some, but I wasn't sure if it is really worth it. For my last shooting I experimented with plastic foil to see what effect it has on the photos - just out of curiosity and because I felt like it would fit my concept. Cannot wait for the under water photos aswell. I bet they'll be dope! πŸ™
