Don't know if anyone else has already commented on this, but the reason Aegon is made King is not because of what Alicent hears from Viserys. The council say in the episode this has been their plan the whole time no matter what Alicent thinks of it. The misunderstanding serves as a reason for Alicent to support the greens and another argument for Aegon's claim.

Aemond says in ep 7 it was Alicent who betrothed them, but we can assume that is just his perspective as her child.

The whole thing Otto was manipulating alicent and her children with is that if Rhaenyra became queen she would kill them to get rid of competition but we haven't seen her ever hint towards that or behave in that way. He was scheming from the beginning and his family fell for it. The previous episode Rhaenyra genuinely thought they were getting to a better place and even thanked Alicent for taking care of her dad so why would she switch up when she was Queen? all of the political plotting we've seen thus far has been on the Green's side.
