He was such a unique character and would have been perfect as a champion for lgbt rights, maybe in combination with Ivriss since they kinda already bumped into each other. In any case i don’t think chapters like these make sense. After the huge fight we still haven’t seen any major discussion about characters who have died. Selme literally vanished killed by symphony and erin hasn’t even talked about it or planned some kinda retribution to finally destroy symphony and all other assassins. And the lgbt plot is just not moving. It gets mentioned every 10 or so chapter but always as this super nebulous thing, then we get saliss having a nervous breakdown every time someone dares to mention it, and that’s it. There are so many other worthy characters that would be so much more inspiring in their fight against bigotry. Maybe they could even show saliss how stuck, afraid and self-sabotaging he has become.

I got that they were trying to talk about it being okay if people talked and acted differently but it just sort of fell apart. I honestly thought it might have just been me not reading it 'correctly'.. I love Saliss as a character, Rose is kind of 'meh' for me so I hope Pirate doesn't keep them paired up for long.

I enjoy the Saliss POV a lot, with all his complexity and flaws. Rose is... very easy to dislike (lol), but I think we'll eventually get that signature pirateaba moment of "Damnit how exactly did they get me to start liking this character that I lowkey hated??"

2024-03-14 03:54:16 +0000 UTCWow, this chapter kinda suck especially when you have to read 30k+ words about something you don't really care about. Rose acts like she hasn't mature at all, I feel like Rose is trying to find some niche to hang onto for the sake of being equal to other Earthers.

Who would listen to the nudist about what's normal? (In saliss' mind) I think this plotline is ready for more movement, though. It's shame we had to spend time rebooting Rose knowing Saliss and couldn't integrate Illvris into this with his current marching orders from Erin.

Why would other species who barley interact with humans (thus barley care about human fashion) care about Rose walking around in a specific attire (which was a suit right?). And what was that display? An act infront of what? a few people? I thought the point was to do it infront of a large audience or maybe it’s going to build towards that. Curious about Ivriss and his relation to all this since this is his quest too.

2024-03-13 11:41:24 +0000 UTCThis chapter was kinda meh. It feels like the lgbt trope just keeps getting mentioned now and then but no deeper conversation or event is happening. In our world the struggle for civil rights was fought head first. People spoke out, they published books, the protested and got it, they put themselves out there. How can you fight oppression and hate if you don’t even show yourself? If you don’t say to the world I exist, this is me, and I reject these cruel laws and injustices? How else would a different perspective even be visible if no one expressed it? Saliss is actually terrible, he thinks he’s had it harder than anyone but really what Rose is saying is totally true. People fought and got hurt and died and suffered for equal representation and the respect everyone is owed. Saliss acts as if this only affected him. How dare he say to other not to use a term to describe themselves? The truth is that he is a coward who just keeps making up excuses for not actually fighting in the open. He is probably deeply traumatized but it’s sad we are seeing this ongoing fight for fundamental rights and freedoms from the perspective of a coward. All lgbt fighters were in the open, they got hurt but never doubted that to counteract bigotry and hate they needed to be fully themselves in the face of a spiteful and idiotic society. I think there’s braver people from whose eyes we should see this struggle take form in the wandering inn.
