Gravesong - Patreon Advance Copy

This is it. I have spent multiple multiple days of this 2-week break...resting. And revising! But also resting.

But also revising! Because I will take a long break after Volume 8 is done, but I cannot rest easy with Gravesong or Volume 8 unfinished. And oh, it has been a long time. One year? Two years! Two years and we are closing in on the book finally coming out.

I will not bore you long; I'm writing an Author's Note for the end of it, but this is what you need to know: this is a PATREON ONLY advance copy of Gravesong. I call it Draft 3, which means it is very close to being ready for publication. Diana will help me polish any remaining parts, but I would like to believe I've added at least 40k words of revisions. There is always more I can do, but this is functionally a complete work.

To use a Toren metaphor, imagine this is an undead skeleton. If there are new parts, think of it like Toren replacing his hand or polishing bones; the body remains.

The only big removal will be song lyrics, which I have no copyright for...yet. The published version will have them in, but I have edited them all out in this version. You can still see the song name in such places, but the experience in changed and that is the one huge difference I can point to.

Please do not share this or leak it. I understand there are people who may do this, but this is going to be a book. On the other hand, I am content to show you early because it matters, because you are great readers of TWI who made books like this possible, and because I think the book will sell well regardless of whether I publish it or not--especailly because you can buy the audiobook and physical book, a TWI first!

Enough rambling. You can read the author's notes...after the entire novel! This is it! Gravesong! (160,000 Words)

Update: Link removed for reasons. Which is good. Can't say much but hopefully it won't be long before I post something.

Thanks for reading.

Is there anywhere to read it that's not on Yonder? I don't want to pay five bucks for a few chapters when I could spend it here instead. Or, just like to own the book entirely rather than renting chapters

Alex John

Damn. Where I can read it. It's not on amazon.... not that I'd like to install Kindle app on my phone.

Figaser Innahem

Literally just subbed to read Grave Song and it's no longer available? Was this ever announced?

Lis

I Don't suppose you could add a new link for this please, this link just keeps going to Sorry not found. [Gravesong} If have to increase level for pls let me know. Hope you get this lol.

Mike Leroux

Is there an ETA for the release? :c

Konrad2

"Still, what did it matter for the 6th Princess and her third marriage?" Seraphel is the 4th Princess?

Jessica Neal

Amazing! Read it in 2 sittings, loved it!

Andreas H.

If you're crediting lyrics, You Raise Me Up was originally by The Secret Garden. Josh Groban's is a popular cover.

Froyo Baggins

I was not expecting how dark it was. Wandering Inn is way more of a slice of life slow burn. But I did like it.

Jan Verner

Played the mentioned songs while reading the scenes, it was beautiful and sorrowful. Thank you!

Becca

I highly encourage people to play the alluded soundtracks in the background while reading the relevant passages; it was not corny at all, and extremely moving

Mats Ahlgren

loved it you are an amazing writer and to hard on your self criticism; patiently waiting for the next chapter

Jennifer Toledo

For those of us that typically prefer reading on our phone’s Kindle format, reference this website for an awesome walkthrough on how to make that conversion. Worked great! https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/21314512/pdf-file-amazon-kindle-convert-how-to-read

Whelp, I just spent the last 3 hours weeping my way through the end of Gravesong. This was a really amazing story, and I can’t wait for the book and audiobook to come out so I can buy both and read it and listen to it at the same time. Then I’m gonna buy it for all my friends. Can’t wait to read more from Cara.

Tartlet

I have literally never been more invested in a story….and I have read the whole Wheel of Time 7 times through….

SaintMaceToTheFace

Loved it so much. Really great story. Glad that we are getting Cara's back story. Cara reminded me of a macross songstress during the battle scenes. The songs were picked great as well. Great use of The Weight of the World. Made the scene pop off the pages. Looking forward to seeing how volume 8 will turn out, and how the next book in this trilogy will go.

Matt

Yeah, I think it is intended to serve as an alternate introduction to get people into the world of Wandering Inn. The first Wandering Inn volume seems to be a bit mixed in reviews with people complaining about slow pace and Erin being "unrealistically stupid." Pirate said that the first volume will be rewritten soon and I think that's in an effort to bring it up to the quality of the later volumes. That will make it less of a barrier for new readers, but in the meantime Grave Song could do something similar.

John Koor

No, this is the Singer of Terrandria's origin story. With the pacing as I'm reading it now, it won't come anywhere near catching her story up to volume 8.

John Koor

So is this stand-alone from the Volume 8? or is it part of it? Just confused a little, haven't read it yet as I want to wait for the full release since it looks like bits are missing...

Phlox the Flowery

The last 3rd of this I was expecting a mentioning of the song "Private Malone" and the last bit recruiting the ghost knight to be "Holding out for a Hero"

NinjaChicken

What a fantastic story I loved it. Thank you very much. It also enabled people who aren’t current wandering inn fans to engage and understand the world through Cara’s learning curve.

Martin Page

Amazing stuff as always. Getting the song title and playing it in the background while reading those sections was a real treat.

Django

Pirate this is amazing! i was so taken in by it that I read it all in one go. Until 4am. i’m very tired. A wonderful novel.

Patrick Sheehy

Thanks for this. It was a fun read. I realize that I'm older than I thought because I had to look up every song and for most of them they didn't fit for me. I was thinking "Eye of the tiger" or "I need a hero" to pump things up. And there is Scott asking for a Spotify Playlist... So old.

Eric

Is there a song list somewhere so I can make a Spotify playlist?

Tartlet

Ha I wasn't the only one stopping and using youtube everytime a song came up.

omar crooke

Will you release a part2 for patreon aswell? In the future?

Chargcake

Great read! Frustrating how long it took Cara to use her new Skill though. And sorry I couldn't get WordPress to let me comment but here's a typo: "Her hair was yet black, but crossed with the faintest streaks of blonde," Jet black? And you wrote flautist but I think you meant [Flautist]?

Alexander Hallonblad

Im supposed to sit here and read 160k word chapter? Well okay

Chargcake

I don't even know if I want to read this right now, what a treat! Better wait until tomorrow. Have a great day Pirate!

Alex LeBlanc

This is an amazing gift, Thanks Pirate. Now I only need to stay up until dawn to read it.

Jp wag

Thanks for everything, Aba. It really is appreciated by all of us.

Talin

I made an ungodly screech when I got this email notification. Thank you, Pirate for this incredible gift. You’re amazing!!!!!!!!

Kate Shhhhhh

Omg, thank you! This is an amazing bonus, I knew a subscription would be worth it. You spoil us too much lol Go take a break!

Ignat Remizov

pirateaba, you are a wonder. You must be a [Thaumaturge]. Thank you for this!

homunculus

l don't know how, but pirate is back at it again to steal a month of my time to read another great work. Thank you! Seriously though do you have a relic class artifact or levels in real life to achieve this writing pace?

random bypasser

Woohoooo thanks Pirate! You're the best!!!!!

Elliot Dweck

I second this. Would be willing to pay a decent amount. I mean I'd rather a signed copy of Volume 1, but this would still be great.

Elliot Dweck

Can we get a signed copy?

johnharoldson

I've subscribed to very few patreons, but TWI was something that after having read 6 volumes for free, I could not in any conscience not subscribe, as I feel this is one of the most epic stories currently being created. I've never regretted the subscription, I'll let chapters build up and then binge, and then when I really need to read the next chapter, the early patreon release let's me indulge. But this release of a 160,000 world novel, about an event/character we are all curious about.. I just have to say thank you to the author. This world you have created is fantastic, the characters, the events, the lore, everything. Just, thanks.

Bobby Khan

I can’t wait to read it. I’m beyond excited! You’re too good to us, Pirate!

Janna

Thank you very much, although I'll be waiting until I can buy the book. :)

Konrad2

This is like dropping 7 chapters suddenly! Time to binge with YouTube on the side prepped for songs.

DThornz

2 days left of quarantine, just enough time to binge

Aegis

This author is cool. 😎. They spoil us too much

Alvin Baena

Thank you Pirate. Appreciate it and will get to reading immediately :)

JumpingPotatoSack

I gotta hurry up and finish the last two chapters of volume 8 now!
