This is my favorite ongoing story, but I feel like volume six is maybe not my favorite part. Many of the hanging threads of plots from earlier volumes that I really wanted to see resolved continue to dangle, and while Erin's had some catharsis over the events of the goblin lord she's had no victories this volume in any of her storylines. I feel like many of the antagonists throughout the story, these Wistram mages had huge levels of plot armor, and as you say, Erin has a whole corner of the continent to leverage for help, not including her new Not Friends/Social Vultures from Pallas.

2019-12-19 02:51:53 +0000 UTCI had a suspicion something was living in the blood fields. A sentient battlefield just felt out of place honestly. Very interesting!

2019-12-18 02:51:04 +0000 UTCI know that a fair bit of Erin's story in V6 has been about taking the piss out of her (probably so she can be built back up again later), but I have to disagree with Lyonette. Erin DID consider Palt's offer--there was text to exactly that effect. Also, Erin didn't insult Palt--she just told him no. Lyonette is still correct, but not for the right reasons. Especially since Erin ends up basically giving Palt a blank cheque for what's temporary protection at best. Lyonette's argument also makes even less sense given that Erin ISN'T independent anymore. She's a paying citizen of Liscor and has connections with everyone from Krshia, to Klbch, to the Goblins, to her adventurer guests, to Ilvriss. Yes, they aren't super formal alliances, but to suggest that Erin is still some lone power at this point is a baffling incorrect statement from Lyonette. Those allies she mentions still have Erin's back. Lyonette's correct that Erin should look for an "in" with Wistram, but it's not an issue of her finding a way to save her inn or lives, it's just the most practical way for her to resolve the situation. Erin is at her best when dealing with people, not swords or combat magic, even if she forgets it sometimes. Speaking of Lyonette, I'm starting to think it's been an overly long time since someone took the piss out of HER. I can't recall a single problem for her to struggle with since she finished getting Worldly Princess. She's just been coasting on "I'm a Princess again and now I am making a pseudo-castle in the background." Though to be fair, I suspect we'll be getting the drama with her family relatively soon.
