Side Stories Poll - August 2019
Added 2019-08-15 03:34:37 +0000 UTCWe're back! This time the poll's come out earlier! And the theme for this poll is...titles that amuse me.
More seriously, though, you and I and little grey pebbles on the road know that most side stories aren't actually to the side, but sometimes central to the plot. We all know that some will get written; perhaps all. So, what's the purpose of a poll other than to choose what comes first if the best will all get written? I thought about this and my answer is perspective.
Yes, some stories will come later if they're not voted on. Some will be written because the plot demands it. But a story might be squashed with others, or not given it's full due. Or--sometimes, it will be even better because it comes at a time when the plot needs it more than ever. We can't tell, but the purpose of the poll is to offer points of view that won't come again. Some stories will never be written. Others will come to pass, but differently.
The triumph and failing of web serials is that they are tangenial; at least, the one I write. The story has a course, but only by way of a map; the road can be bumpy, smooth, amazing or terrible because I am writing each chapter as they come, and I have no time to correct or revise. So these polls have a lot of value; they can change the world of the story in significant ways.
If Octavia's story had not been consistently missed in the polls, a single Goblin, not a Goblin and an Antinium Soldier, would have rushed to her aid. The good folk from the north wouldn't have met Numbtongue in that moment, or given a bit of assistance. On the other hand, I would finally have included that alchemy segment I had to cut. It's impossible to predict how the polls affect things.
I'm going to call it the pole-butterfly effect. In that there's probably some scenario where the right or wrong side-story votes gets me to write about poll-dancing butterflies.
That's my philosophy and random thoughts for the day. Vote away and pray I'm saner when we get to Saturday's chapter! Then again, maybe it's because I'm writing on the ergonomic keyboard. Thanks, I still hate it.

2019-08-17 19:08:12 +0000 UTCI‘d love to see the Lord + 6 Fights and the Trowback. We‘ve got a lot of Erin lately.

2019-08-17 10:48:19 +0000 UTCI was just thinking the other day that I miss the Clown. I don’t think about him often, but I would like to see how he has developed.

2019-08-17 04:35:00 +0000 UTCIn the series Enterprise, there was a scene in which strippers were eating butterflies.

2019-08-17 00:52:25 +0000 UTCTwo rats tied together with a string. It sounds like animal cruelty to me. But since Erin seems to be involved, it gets my vote.

2019-08-15 16:50:39 +0000 UTCHard to go wrong with two rats tied together with a string in Erin’s Inn.

2019-08-15 14:29:22 +0000 UTCCan you give more hints about the other options? I have literally no idea what to expect from the non Erin ones.

2019-08-15 11:37:24 +0000 UTCBut surely if you want Erin to become the mafia boss of inn world, she needs more gold ranked fighters (ergo lets introduce more with the 6 fights) not two rats & a string.
2019-08-15 06:20:43 +0000 UTCThe rats are calling. Don't ignore their call.

2019-08-15 05:21:08 +0000 UTCSure, but, and hear me out here, 2 rats tied together by string in Erin’s inn.

2019-08-15 05:07:45 +0000 UTCFrankly surprised by the lack of interest in the fights selection. Maybe I'm misreading the context, but vs. battles tend to be pretty hot items.

2019-08-15 04:33:25 +0000 UTCVote for Rhir, folks. Seriously, that chapter is going to be good if it wins. Also, here's some more information on the [Lord] who is being voted for. "5 - Lord Himler Operland - A [Lord] of Rhir and one of the foremost vassals of the Blighted King. Largely boring compared to the rest, but a dedicated soldier who defends his lands with vigor, if not originality. Easily impressed by anyone who can fight against the Demons well. Has a son."

2019-08-15 04:25:57 +0000 UTCNow I'm just commenting for the sake of discussion, but one of those titles is not like the other. First, context; location and so setting and likely characters are given. Next is absurdity; really all of them are different levels of absurd, but generally only one is "in your face" about it. I don't know which one Pirateaba "wants" us to pick (consciously or unconsciously) but I'm definitely swayed towards one particular choice. How about you guys?
