State of the Serial January 2026

Break Weeks:
- Flirting with Death is on break this week. No update Friday, back to regular updates next Friday.
- This Magical Girl is Mine will go on break the week of January 18th.

Well! How is everyone doing? Some big developments in TMGM this week that I hear readers are very excited about. I know a lot of people have been waiting for this one for a while. I hope it was worth the wait! We've got... two, maybe three months left of book 2. The plan is still to have four books in total, though I'll give an update on that during the break between 2 and 3.

Now that I've got the opening little stretch of FWD mostly done, I'm starting to iterate on what the main conflict of the first book is going to look like and where I want to take the story. Fair warning, this one might get pretty experimental. The nature of my writing process is that it usually takes me most of a book to really find the characters and what I most want to do with them, so I'm trying to adapt to that.

General life update: I am moving at the end of this month! The 27th, if all goes according to plan. Still hashing out details. From Denver to Portland. I'll be couch-surfing for a little bit while I try to get FWD ready for Royal Road. If launching it on RR can get me even another $500 on Patreon I think I'll be able to get a passable apartment, otherwise I'll have some hard choices to make. Economy, bleh.

I'm nervous about the second serial, I must admit. I've been mostly keeping up with the update schedule I've set myself, so that's not a big issue, but I'm worried about public reception. It's a very different work from TMGM, and I'm taking a few risks with it. Hopefully, it all works out.

I've been thinking a lot about writing. I'm happy to have come so far with my writing, but I'm feeling more than ever how far I still have to go. Writing two serials should be good practice, but I also want to try and learn new skills, study other writers, etcetera. There are things I can do to improve, I'm sure. It's just a matter of budgeting the time and energy.

In sillier news, I've been thinking of starting up my old YouTube channel again. Streaming some games, hanging out with friends in call, y'know. Also, it would be fun to do a monthly in-character Q&A video, so that's on the list, and I might make another post after this one asking for questions from patrons.
