People HATED this episode when it came out.

Something that would've made this arc better is some deaths.

Always nice to see side characters making a cameo, even if it is the suitcase dropping octopus lady in 563 which rejected Hatchi in his cover story.

i completely agree jinbei deserved the hordy fight. but oda wants luffy to deal with the big bads which is fair i guess

I've never liked hordy as a villain or even as a character, he's unfortunately boring to me lol, but the message oda wants to send with him in this arc is definitely very good. The concept of hordy being so weak that he has to enhance himself with drugs, and how that connects with his empty hatred is so interesting to me. The fishmen who actually experienced racism had reason for their hatred, but hordy clings to secondhand hatred like an addiction. Turning racism into identity is like relying on a drug, just like the roids we constantly see through out the arc; using fake power to hide your lack of substance. It's a sad concept imo, specially when you realize how much this happens in real life

I love that Robin’s clones replicated her shades too, she’s looking stylish as hell with those on

I don't know if it's the sub, the manga, or if I misremember his quote, but the thing I got from Hordy's motivation back in the day, is that the point being represented is the whole "Passing down hate" to the children and the consequences. Hordy was raised believing Humans were evil without ever questioning it, even though he didn't have any experiences (bad or otherwise) with humans. He grew up reinforcing that mindset, seeing his idols and the adults confirming that bias. So now that he's an adult, that hate is solidified. He doesn't have to question it, it just is. There's no need for a "reason", and you'd have a hard time ever convincing him otherwise. It might seem superficial, but it's actually very poignant, even more so nowadays, and very real. Be it with racism, prejudices, us vs them mentality in all senses. Most of the time, that kind of thing isn't learned through some well thought out process, or past traumatic experience, but passed down to the children, conditioned, etc, like everything else. The whole point of the arc is about that, not passing down hate to children, or they grow up to propagate that hate, to pass it down indefinitely, keeping the cycle going to a point where sides continue fighting without being able to justify it, without being able to tell you the reason or the origin they're fighting each other.
