The anime toned them down to appeal more to a teenage audience, which makes certain ships like Kazuma x Megumin look a bit weirder than they do in the novel. You can even tell by the way they act, they're still idiots, obviously, but they behave more like young adults than teenage kids. Even the fan service feels like it was written for an older cast. Honestly, it’s best not to overthink it and just view them as if they're all equally old enough
