Gem society and gem relationships often serve multiple metaphors at the same time. The Pearl thing is a heavy duty metaphor that can be applied to racism, classism, slavery, and sexism. Also the thing about Peridot's prejudice IS learned systematic prejudice, just because you can logically determine that a Pearl isn't as strong as your average quartz does not therefore justify the objectification and limitations that Pearls are forced into. Gems are designed to have certain jobs yes but they are also systematically forced to conform or face execution.

Actually, she probably has no idea what rain is because every other planet colonized by the Gems was strip-mined of everything, including atmosphere. So no weather.

The Pearl thing could be read as Racism.... but since the Pearls are LITERALLY designed and made to be servants (kinda like Robots) im not sure this specific situation can be defined as "Racism"....
Maybe like..... "Categorism"??
The point is... Peridot talking like she's inherently superior to Pearl is not necessarily because of a learned systematic prejudice (although there is a bit of that), it's because ALL gems are "born" to have certain jobs and be good at them.
The Crystal Gems are exceptions because they Rebelled against their Homeworld.

See, Steven can only talk on what he knows and what he’s seen. I don’t think it’d be realistic if he sat down with Peridot and was like “So, due to the systematic-“

Yes Alicia, welcome to Gem Racism ^^'
But now that the show has introduced it, it can start digging into some INTERESTING stuff! Especially with Pearl.
Look forward to it ;)

Yeah this show's reaction to certain things like racism/classim isn't the best at times. (It's a legitimate criticism of the show)
But no show is perfect, we can acknowledge and call out the issues without detracting from the positives.
(Intent matters, it's not like the people who made the show are pushing a racist narrative or anything it's just a poorly done attempt to counter racism/classim)

You know, the Cluster is very similar to the Emergence in Marvel’s The Eternals. A Celestial in the center of the Earth, growing from the energy of the world’s large populations over millions of years, and when it finally emerges, it would destroy world.
Come to think of it, there are a few other similarities between the show and the movie. In SU, the gems are mass produced, and the Eternals are cloned for every world an Emergence occurs.

Turning it around... This makes fusion all the more wholesome because certain tasks and abilities become waaaay stronger.

I just realised how muddy this messaging is. Gems are created with certain abilities and mindsets for specific tasks. Pearl was literally made to be a servant and Peridot was literally made to be a technician, they have their own thoughts feelings and desires but they all do have a set purpose they are designed for. Any gem can do anything (almost) but that doesn't stop the fact that they will always be better at what they are made for. On it's own that's fine but adding a racism allegory to it makes some really uncomfortable implications since it's not just a mindset or social system it is what we are shown and said to be factually how they work.
