I have to say I am far more uncomfortable with the supposed idea that you can only ever have one great love in a life than with the reverse. Leaving inside the possibility of someone being alone and lonely for a long existence, (especially long in Dracula's case), that kind of attitude contributes to people sticking with abusive partnerships. After all, it's their first great love, they're never going to find another... Nothing wrong whatsoever with people not wishing to move on, but they should be able to move on, and anything else is just sad.

2025-12-09 22:48:08 +0000 UTCTo be totally clear, the 'zing' thing was absolutely retconned, because the writers likely realized how absolutely horrid of an idea it was to plant it in kids' heads that you can only fall in love once your whole life.

2025-12-09 22:46:17 +0000 UTCI get where Alicia's coming from about the whole "2nd Zing" thing, it does kinda feel retconned in. But too be fair Dracula is under rather specific circumstances that might be so rare its possible for him to be the first in who knows how long to have a 2nd zing. 1st we don't know how long a life span most monsters have. We know Dracula has been around for I'd say at least 500 years maybe. Lets just assume since they were friends with him over 100 years ago his close friends are about the same. 2nd life as a monster , even within the past 100 years, isn't entirely peaceful. They only just got access to modern technology and human services to help them meet new people/monsters within the past 5 years. 3rd and finally Drac is currently at a point in his life where all his other loved ones are happy and healthy, giving him time to realize how lonely he is, and quite possibly giving him a 2nd chance to Zing with someone. So I understand where she's coming from, especially since they never really questioned it or hinted at a reason as to how or why. It still feels a little cheap, but I feel like those 3 factors explain it well enough that its not terrible...... just a little meh.
