Once Subaru knows everything he needs to do , he will achieve his goal. Its a story about hope and self-improvement. There was never a chance it would end with him not saving Emilia and the kids after everything he went through. That last part was weird though. All of a sudden they start showing us these flashbacks of a girl who looks like Ram except her hair is blue? WTF? Who the hell is Rem?

That reaction was visceral. For those of us who saw the 1st season way before a 2nd season was even announced we had no idea that it would start off with a plot twist like that...... at least those of us who didn't look into the manga.
