I am glad Alicia likes the rep in the show, I know plenty people did, but also some who really didn't like it. I remember listening to a Marvel Podcast and ThatBronzeGirl really hated this show's representation of the whole Noor thing. Personally I think it's the same as the dimension in Shang Chi and what they did with Thor's mythological origin.

Also not that a lot of people will care about this in a random comment section but a neat fact about my family is my great great grandfather ran raiding missions north into Texas and the American south to rescue slaves since Mexico outlawed slavery almost fifty years before the us did after winning independence from Spain. This has been brown people facts from a fellow brown person. π€

2025-09-11 10:30:12 +0000 UTCThis wasn't really a 'Marvel' or 'Disney' thing pushing the Inhumans, that was entirely on Ike Perlmutter, the CEO/Chairman of Marvel. Trying to replace the X-Men with Inhumans started long before Disney because Ike is a petty little bitch who was salty that someone other then him was making money off 'his' property and didn't see why Marvel should produce free publicity for Fox by putting out more X-Men comics, because he is also an idiot who couldn't process that successful films do more to drive comic sales then comics do to boost film sales. The reason all the Inhuman stuff was kept to the TV shows and never showed up in the movies was because Ike tried to muscle in and take control of the MCU during Phase 2 (A lot of the issues with that phase were due to his meddling, most notably he's the reason it took so long to get a Black Widow movie, and is the one who said 'no one would notice' they recast War Machine) since he'd scoffed at and deride Kevin Feige's whole plan for the MCU but let him do it because the guy helped Ike buy the company on the condition he was given the chance to do so. And when it became a success, Ike had to take over to prove that it was all because of his genius and vision! Then ended up pissing off so much of the cast and crew that Disney finally stepped in and removed him from any position of authority over the films, but he still had control over the TV divisions to push his Inhuman stuff that no one else wanted.

2025-09-11 03:38:36 +0000 UTCSo, now that this is over, time for the big comic info dump! First, the name and the costume in the comics were right away, and were inspired by Captain Marvel. In the comics universe, Carol wasn't the first Captain Marvel, and previously went by Miss Marvel with a lightning bolt symbol, but they had to make up new shit for all of that, because none of that happened in the MCU. Second, the powers. In the comics, she doesn't have hard light, she has stretchy powers. Similar to Mr Fantastic, but she specifically does a lot of stuff with fully growing or shrinking in size as well. Any time in this series that you see her use her light powers to make herself giant fists, or long arms, or when she gives herself the full armor and longer legs near the end, that's them referencing the stuff that she'd ACTUALLY do tin the comics. There's 3 main reasons for the change in her powers and origins: 1. The obvious, Antman exists, and Mr Fantastic was already planned to be added back in, so having someone who grows/shrinks and stretches would be stepping on toes, and the MCU doesn't like doing that unless the characters are *directly* related in their lore (ie, wasp also shrinking). 2. Some elements were changed probably due to plans for The Marvels, which is something I'll get into in THOSE comments, rather than these ones. 3. They had to completely change Kamala's backstory, because originally she debuted as part of a scheme by Marvel executives back before disney bought out fox to make the x-men less important. Disney still wanted to do something like the x-men, but they didn't have the rights, but Marvel had another group of superbeings with some similarities, called the Inhumans. The Inhumans had recently moved their space-city on the moon to just off the coast of manhattan. They also look mostly like humans, and then when they're teenagers or young adults they go through a coming-of-age story where they're exposed to Terrigen Mist, which gives them powers. And like mutants, their powers are all different, and some still look human while others get physical changes. So Marvel mandated this storyline where someone set off a bomb that released a massive cloud of Terrigen Mist that travelled across the planet, causing people who had Inhuman ancestors to spontaneously gain powers, and causing any mutants who inhaled it to die. At the same time, Marvel was planning an Inhumans movie, to take advantage of this change in the canon, making the Inhumans the more prominent group, and Kamala was kind of the flagship character, as well as the most successful one. Those movie plans were downgraded to an Agents of Shield spinoff tv show (the guy with the super-powered voice from Dr Strange 2 is actually one of the inhumans, and played by the same actor from the show), and then on top of that, the show bombed. People gradually stopped caring about the "NuHumans", other events gradually retconned all the dead mutants, and everybody moved on, except that Ms Marvel stayed fairly popular. So when they decided to bring her to the MCU, they A. didn't want to do anything with Inhumans anymore because their last attempt bombed, and B. wanted to tease/hint at mutants because they had recently acquired the X-Men movie rights and were starting to try and figure out how to bring them in. So they gave her a whole new origin story, added all the stuff about djinn, tied it more into her *human* heritage rather than just being "whoops, one of your ancestors fucked an Inhuman and now you have powers. And that is why Ms. Marvel, the face of a storyline meant to promote Inhumans and get rid of Mutants for the sake of the MCU, is now a mutant in the MCU :P

While i think having the drama is good, they have to make the superhero part of it more prominent, cos as a drama, there are other shows that provide better stuff, but when it comes to Marvel it has superpowers unique to Marvel and u cant get that anywhere else
